I consider myself pretty well informed on current events, but I wasn't aware of this. Thanks for posting. I am however aware of the general issue; China using its power, mainly economical, to push countries and organisations around. Norway experienced this after the Nobel Peace Comitee gave the award to a Chinese human rights and dempcracy activist. The consept of the comitee being independent of the government was clearly alien to the Chinese regime. One would hope the WHO was braver when dealing with China, but since the origin and epicentre of Coroana was in China I guess they had little room to maneuver.
But i'm not sure this is the reason Trump pulled the US out of WHO. Trump dislikes multinational organisations in general and prefers isolationism or bilateral treaties.

I have a friend from school who is Chinese and even though he was born in the UK has lived in China for a long time now, I keep in regular contact with him and what little he can say is quite frightening, China have without doubt downplayed their numbers and he dare not even type the word virus in his communications to me as the government monitor such things, back in December China convinced the WHO that the novel coronavirus wasn't easily transmitable between humans, I believe they new this wasn't the case.
The UKs response was not anything like parallel with the USAs we tracked and confined in the early stages in an attempt to halt the spread, it's well documented that after the first confirmed case in the US in Washington nothing was done for 4 weeks!
