The elements of the demonstrators in Portland and other cities who are burning, looting and being voilent are behaving very stupidly as well as comminting crimes. To use a KGB expression - they are "usefull idiots" because only the Republicans and Trump can benefit from this behavior. How can anybody be this short-sighted?

I don't know. It sounds like the kind of story that would be made up to discredit Trump on the basis that it sounds like something he would say. Of course, if he can then prove he didn't say it, bingo! All such allegations will then be discredited before they start so it may even be a set-up.
Trump is not dissimilar to Putin's Russia in that he don't much care if you know he's lying and you know he knows, it's a sort of wearying tactic. As politicians are meant to lie, it can be v draining I imagine so with Trump there's none of that, he sort of skims the surface of stuff.
I admit I must be pretty naive, I had always thought Journalist might start with an
Anonymous Source but would need some Evidence to back up that story. still
I'm sure this is going to be a very "Dirty tricks" Election in America and am certain
there'll be a few Anonymous Source stories about the Dems...... so let the fun start

My friends, I haven’t been in the forum for a while and I hate to come back on such a contentious note, but I feel a need to chime in here. Donald Trump is a lying, bigoted, ignorant egomaniac. He lies constantly without remorse, endangers lives, brags about himself ceaselessly, engages in juvenile name-calling and generally acts like a boorish, bloviating doofus. I was born and raised in New York City and I was there in the seventies, where his reputation as a racist and con man was pretty well-known. My family and I lived in low-income public housing, and we were just the kind of family the Trumps fought to keep out of their properties. The same kind of people Trump is using now to try to frighten suburbanites into believing they are about to be invaded by marauding hordes unless he is re-elected. Maybe none of this matters if you agree with Trump’s “policies”, such as they are. But make no mistake, Donald Trump is a wretched human being and, in my opinion, the worst president in U.S. history. (Stepping off of soapbox now).
The only tragedy being that of course one can't imagine Joe Biden saying anything with that kind of articulacy or passion or even getting past a sentence without his eyes becoming a bit distant and awkward like old Q reading off his cue cards in Brosnan days.

I don't see how the Shetlands can finance independence if they don't get control of some of the North Sea oil fields. They would also have to cooperate with larger nations on many fields and in some fields like the military they would be almost totaly dependent on other counties. Becomeing a Crown Dependency like Jersey with the control of some oil fields seems like the best outcome.
It will predent the SNP with quite a dilemma, especially because this situation has come about because of the SNP

if anyone has followed any serious news outlet it should be known that very long time ago, the yellow vest protests have been hijacked by the usual extremist groups ( the vandalizing of national heritage in the Arc de Triomphe comes to mind).
And I am pretty sure teargas was not used because Macron is a fascist but these „demonstrations“ where violating existing law.
Pretty sure not even Macron is not in charge for this but the authorities (major) in Paris.
So the headline „Macron is a fascist because teargas is used against yellowvesters“ could not be any wronger and populist.
Just for context, France is having record Covid numbers again and everybody is mandated to wear a mask in public in Paris and public gatherings are heavily limited there.
