Bond's battle with the snake (Moonraker)?

This always struck me as a terrifying scene as a kid. It's almost everyone's worst nightmare really..does anyone know how they pulled this off (effects wise)?. you can see Roger's stuntman grappling with a snake underwater. For any bits and I'm assuming much of it isn't a real snake, how did they get the python so realistic? It's a truly nail-biting scene. One of Bond's worst encounters for sure. How do people rate this scene? As I say any info behind scenes on this appreciated?

I think the problem with the real one was, when put in the water. All it wanted
to do was swim back to shore :))

I always thought it was a mix of real and a stand in one, I've said it before with bond films, they were way ahead of their time in lots of effects and filming techniques, I've mentioned the sharks in tb before and how much better they were filmed than in jaws. Mr's python was far better than the one in anaconda despite being filmed years before.

Considering how many sharks were killed after "Jaws", the least they could've done was film the damned things correctly.

In terms of filming techniques, I couldn't agree more.
If you haven't already, you should listen to the and the commentary for OP and YOLT.
The directors and respective crews go in depth on the various techniques they used, it's truly astonishing.
Although many people of the public don't regard the older Bonds as being that great, they should re-watch them. It's amazing how well they hold up. Even on the subject of MR. Just from the first 5 minutes in the PTS with the free fall, it's breathtaking.
    a reasonable rate of return

I've listened to the commentaries, for someone of my age who first saw bond on TV, then on TV and recorded it on video, then got the official videos, then dvd's with the extras and so on, any further extras were most welcome... In fact I was really disappointed when they stopped the extras from the sf dvd onwards.

Sadly I'm reaching that age that as well as a flu jab ! :p I get mixed up in facts from all the
Commentaries and reference books, I've listened/ read over the years. I guess I won't start
Making sense until the Alzheimer's kicks in ;)

I don't have an audience at home, in fact when I told Mrs coop it was bond day yesterday she just rolled her eyes 8-) and said "I suppose there will be another one on TV tonight! Bond is on more than bloody football! " as it happens last night was bloody football and no bond!!!

Yes, I guess we have all experienced the rolling eyes. I was asked once how I kept finding them on the television.
Even when on the laptop to AJB, I know secretly, she'd rather I was looking at porn :))

:)) You mentioned earlier about first taping the films off the TV etc. -{ I too did that, even recording them
On audio tapes before video. Next came buying them in various formats and collections etc. Which lead to
My good lady wife asking " Why do you keep buying the same films ? How many copies do you need ?" :D
I mentioned about aspect ratio the difference between video, DVD and Blu-ray ......... ROLLING EYES!!! :D

Yes I'm an android user too, and I have Sony phone and smart TV, with that I get Sony entertainment network, which has all of Dc's Bond films ( I've downloaded them on the TV) and I can watch them on my phone also. The main benefit is that as Sony was the distribution company I got the downloads a whole day before :D ( which is important when new bonds only arrive every few years)

One of the few occasions when being premature is a good thing. :D
I have a bit of softwear that allowed me to copy the films and keep
them on my phones memory card.
Which I found useful a couple of years ago, when called for Jury
Duty. Spending three days in a room waiting to be picked.
