So as this thread took a turn in to all things automobile I thought id post some pics of the new V8V and my thoughts after attending the AM Newcastle model launch night...
Firstly the car is stunning in the flesh... The fish mouth is very different when in person, Stephen placed a number plate on to it and it really does break it up well.
The car has lots of interesting detail, you notice something new every time you circle it...
Interior wise its a step forward, but somehow didnt gel for me, maybe to do with the "caramac" impersonation...
Will it sell, the looks the noise and the power will do that...
For me the front isnt my favourite but the back is awesome, the interior is fiddly but well made.
After convincing Mrs R another dbs made sense, would I trade it in for the Vantage, err nope!!!
And the DBS still pulled the crowd in the car park before the drive home...
No image option coming up on this thread???
The image option is there for me, but on mobile it sometimes appears in the text box when I write a lot so I have to hit "preview" to make it go where it should.
Great report, M. Any other AMs in the parking lot?
Mantis, I was wondering what drove your decision to get a V8 Vantage instead of a DB9.
Unlike the V8 Vantage it has a V12, and if desired, it could be easily turned into a DBS should you so desire to do so.

Certainly not easy to "turn" a db9 into a DBS...
Its a misconception that the dbs is a db9 with a bodykit. AM reworked every part of the car to make the dbs better, tighter, lighter, stiffer and ultimately faster...
You could make a db9 look "similar", but thats about it. Unfortunately any Aston lacks its original class though once its customised.
David made a fine choice, awesome car in the best colour combo. He also made the same choice ive made several times when the dbs was out of reach / not practical.... Which is to opt for the Vantage over the db9, more of a drivers car and more Bond as a result....
Ive had 3 vantages and now on to my second dbs. But never even considered the db9... A fine car tho it is, just not as sport orientated as the Vantage or (bonkers) dbs....
And before I get berated, the db9 is an amazing car, fast and with a sport pack, still a weapon...
It is an aspirational car that is sensational as a gt and additionally represents astonishing value in its different guises

It just seemed to me as a more logical option for it as a daily driver, it being a bit more luxurious while being less of a thoroughbred.
If your intended purpose is on the track (for which a stock Aston is...an interesting choice), I can see why one would choose it over the other, even if both have won Le Mans.
With its V12 (no need to modify it to get a better growl out of it in stock form) and cleaner styling, while staying on par for the most part with a V8 Vantage price-wise, it would seem like a better step in the right direction.
Reliability's not an issue, I presume, with standard maintenance on any of the two cars.

They are completely different animals in reality.
The Vantage is firm and much more direct in responses, beautifully weighted and the sound is intoxicating without mods. It is a classic shape with no bad angles. You wont have many issues if serviced regularly. Clutches are a weak point and front / rear lights often fog or leak. Small issues apart you often get fault codes too.
Only thing to remember is when bills come it is still a £90K car!!!
Db9 is similar but the v12 demands bigger bills, Nearly all are tt so clutch isnt an issue. Its just a bit softer all round. Not really more luxurious as all cars share dash / seats etc. Only difference internally is 2+2, but really the +2 is luggage only...
I lied about never considering a db9, I was offered a db9 gt Bond edition from my dealer.... Beautiful but preferred the real Bond car over one badged 007!!!

That's almost as bad as the QoS special edition Seamaster.

Was quite subtle badging etc... Just couldnt get away with the big 007 graphic on the media / nav screen

I chose the Vantage simply because I thought it a better looking exterior, and a bit fresher looking interior, than comparable cost DB9's. Then I found one with the V12 manual and I was done. Best of all worlds.
Dont wait for your ship to come in. Swim out and meet the bloody thing.

You mean it is better to buy a TT rather than a manual version?
Do you think the DBS will hold its value over time.
Do you see it as a good investment?
Personally I prefer a manual in the dbs (in fact any Aston) (and had both dbs's) but a low mileage one was out of reach for me at the time...
The tt is still amazing tho, and has the added ability to be relazing in full auto mode.
I do see them holding value and good ones with full history should steadily rise, as they have been...
Casino Royale and Quantum Silver are good bankers as Bond cars do best. Along with the le such as the ultimate etc
Hopefully mine will be an investment. But I dont really own it for that.

Very helpful!
I don't look at it as an investment either, but like to know I can sell it if I change my mind.
By the way, I'm invited by AM at the coming Geneva autoshow.
Will post a few pics

No probs Greg, think I missed you were a fellow AM owner, too much discussing our lovely kids :x
Have fun in Geneva. Theyll have some cool stuff there
Congrats on your new ride! It is beautiful! I like the color combo, as it would be my choice, as well. If things go as planned, the Vantage will be my retirement gift to myself in a few years. In the meantime, I’m enjoying seeing you enjoy yours! If I might ask, what year is your Vantage? I may have missed it in previous posts...

That's extremely generous of DC. I know he'll get a tax break etc, but he's really someone who puts his money where his mouth is unlike so many celebrities who talk the talk but never walk the walk.

I'm a little surprised it wasn't already taken.
That reminds me that I also had DB10 AGB for a while but let it go after a years as I didn't have a car to put it on.

Awesome! BMT 216A through D are taken out here in Cali, so I went with the next letter. Now I just need an AM to put the damn thing on!
“That’s not the sort of thing that looks good on a form."
"The vehicle has a midnight blue exterior and dark blue luxury leather interior chosen because of Craig’s preference for denim" ...Not suprising )
Interesting... He also owns a red Vantage convertible?
Yep UK based
