Canada Goose Solden Jacket Alternative

Canada Goose has a jacket that looks very similar to the TF Solden jacket. It is not a frugal alternative however.

I tried this on the other day and it is a beautiful item. I own the Moncler and think I actually prefer the Canada Goose version.

    Hackett offers an alternative too.
They call it Bonded Down Knit.

Thanks for posting this as an alternative. I may have to take a look at the Hybridge if i am unable to locate the correct jacket from Tom Ford. I would say its a "frugal alternative" considering the current Tom Ford Solden is $2900. I was in Miami last week and saw the current version in Navy and i was a little disappointed in the fit and the overall quality of the construction.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Regarding the Tom Ford Solden jacket, even if I had too much money I would never even consider to pay 2900 $ for an unoriginal copy of a Moncler jacket.
He must have been in a state of highest creativity to come up with the idea to copy a Moncler jacket and then charge 5 times as much for it as Moncler.
And unlike the 500 $ Moncler the Tom Ford one isn't even filled with down but with cheap polyester.

While I certainly agree the TF is overpriced (and a copy of the Harrod's Moncler), I'm not sure where you read the info about the padding. The TF is comprised of 90% goose down and 10% duck. No polyester padding. You may be referring to the quilted shell front which is polyamide & elastane.

    Kind regards,
    Craig

David Zaritsky said it in a video comparing the Tom Ford jacket to a frugal alternative from Royale Filmwear at 7:38.

I'm just seeing your reply (and now your "Banned" status), so this may fall on deaf ears. But for the sake of providing the correct information for those who will read through these threads days/weeks/months/years from now, the TF Blouson padding IS 90% goose down and 10% duck down - no polyester (I would expect this to be the case at the price point of TF). But you don't have to take my word for it. Here's the info from Mr. Porter and Selfridges -

The polyester fill discussion came directly from a TF employee (who still works there BTW)...I have no doubt it may have been an error on their part but have you worn this in the cold? I find my uniqlo to be warmer. But you are right in for that price-point that fill seems more reasonable.

All good discussion...kind of like winter vs summer weights in Belstaffs... ;)

Ahh, that's interesting. I might offer to guess that the TF employee was referring to the quilted fabric on the blouson - it says 90% nylon but I could venture to guess that might get confused with polyester as they are both synthetic fabrics.

I haven't worn the blouson in the true cold though. I haven't ventured outside of the very temperate Southern California climate since I acquired that piece (at least not in the winter months), so I certainly concede to your vote on its' warmth (or lack thereof). I can imagine that it doesn't offer much warmth to the bitter cold because that quilted layer is so thin. Every jacket by the likes of Canada Goose, Mountain Hardware, etc. that have a down fill are about 10 times more "robust" in thickness. I think that's the only way down can offer any type of insulation.

I love seeing members here in their Canada Goose Lodge jackets, but I sadly have to look from afar. It simply doesn't get cold enough here to justify the purchase. But the TF is actually perfect for those "chilly" 55 degree SoCal evenings. ;)

As for that Belstaff winter vs summer weight topic, that is a sizing issue that I'll never understand. To add to that "confusion," I owned the Hero jacket (War of the Worlds) in the Buffalo Bison, which is the winterweight, in a size Medium. But I also owned a summerweight version in a size Large. And they both had a similar fit on me. You would think I should have gone for the summerweight in a Small. Go figure!

    Kind regards,
    Craig
