Spectre Solden jacket

I've been contemplating the purchase of this jacket from Mr. Porter but i wanted to see what peoples experience has been with the jacket. Also was wondering if anyone on here had a size 56 to confirm the chest and shoulder measurements?

Thanks,

Mike

Based on your measurements in the Harrington thread your chest is a inch or two bigger then myself.

I have a 54 in this (slim fitted) so I would say your def a 56

Mr Porter has a great no quibbles free return so no risk as long as you dont take the label off

Opinion on jacket?? Its ok - nothing special

Mike are you in the UK? Selfridges have a sale coming up if you sign up with them. 20% off. And they have the TF Solden.

I figured at seeing as i've been hovering between a 44 and a 45 that a 56 would be the best course of action as the wool will stretch a little. I've heard a lot of people say the same thing about the jacket so i am not surprised by your response. Is the jacket warm or is it all show and no go?

Mr. Porter is who i have been looking at for the potential purchase but i'm still undecided but i am glad they have a good return/exchange policy :)

    Thanks,

    Mike

I'm actually located in the states so i don't think that promo would be applicable to me. Just in case i'll shoot them an email to see if it is and If it is hopefully they can ship to the states.

    Thanks for the heads up,

Since we're the same size, Welsh, let me know if you ever want to let go of your size 54 :D

Mike - if you do pick this up, I hope you'll share your thoughts on it. I've also been debating on this purchase and have had it in my cart for some time now.

I'll definitely post my thoughts if i get the jacket. I've had the jacket in my cart for almost 3 weeks as i'm debating on if this jacket is really worthk 2k!? Do you know if Mr. Porter's prices listed on the site include the VAT?

    Thanks,

If you have the option of going to the actual TF Boutique, I would highly recommend. If not, Tom Ford's website has all sizes in stock, they offer a great complimentary giftwrap (I always get it wrapped just to open it). The jacket itself is pretty great. You could pull it off with a tie if you felt so inclined, but it pairs great with jeans and a t shirt. Personally, I think it is worth the money. You'll get a lot of wear out of it. Only reason I don't purchase from Mr.Porter on a side note is that Tom Ford won't give you alterations should you need them. They treat the purchase as though you bought it on eBay or another website. Also, they sent me the wrong size twice. I ordered the collar bar shirt in a 38 and they sent it to me in a 39 the first time and 42 the second. Third time around (about 2 weeks later) they had sent the correct shirt. Just my two cents, hope it helps.

Well the only problem is that i cannot order that particular item from TF as they don't make that version that has the navy and grey. The current versions are Navy or Black and they are $2700. I was able to try on a 56 of the Navy while i was in Miami to get an idea of size. I definitely see your concern especially when ordering a shirt but i don't think that garment can be altered.

    Thanks,

    Mike

"My" 54 has been in the cart for about that time also :)) If you go through the checkout process and input your address, it will deduct the VAT and make this slightly more of a feasible purchase.

Porter always has sales in Jan.

I normally always pickup something good (TF Cardi last time)

Yeah i figure the VAT reduction will more than cover the tax/duty for when it gets shipped to me.

I appreciate the info! Does Mr. Porter have a certain time where they do the sale in January or is it random? Hopefully if that garment goes on sale they will still have my size :)

I ended up ordering a 56 and it unfortunately was too large which I didn't understand because I looked at the garment measurements. I did a little digging and the Mr. Porter app says a 56 has a chest measurement of 46.5 inches and the website says 45.5. I am working on doing an exchange to see of that fixes the situation but now I'm stuck paying duties twice :#

What were your thoughts on this for the brief moment you had it in your hands? I'm still debating if I want to order the 54.

I think it's a quality item and it has very good construction to it especially the sweater part. The sweater part of the jacket has more stretch and weight to it than I was anticipating but overall if the 54 fits me I'll keep it! My only gripes about the jacket is that things could be tightened up a bit with the different measurements especially the shoulders, sleeves, I'd like more filling in the front panels as the chest feels a little thin to me.

Hopefully that helps you out :)

Thanks, Mike. It makes me wonder if I should take a 52 instead.

Does this really justify the 1.5K price tag?
I only ask because i have the Moncler in Navy but struggle to justify buying the TF.
Was hoping it will be in the new year sale at Mr P.

Whether you go with a 54 or go down to a 52 i would suggest you base your decision off the size chart provided on the Mr. Porter app seeing as the site is wrong. The site currently shows low stock for the 52 and 54 looks to be good on availability.

Thanks for sharing that info about the sizing discrepancy between the site and the app. Since the harrington I ordered was a 54, in addition to the McQueen cardigan, I imagined that I'd be a 54 in the blouson as well. Seems I'll be sticking with that size.

There is a screenshot of the Mr Porter app showing the sizing for the 52 and 54.

I think the TF is a great piece, yes its pricey but then again Ive worn mine regularly so means £££ per wear its better value in reality.
Fit wise, go with usual size. Im a 52 in all TF stuff. This fits perfectly, v snug but not cant move / breathe level.
Great quality all round too Imo

I’ve never been a huge fan of this jacket, not sure whether it was the design or me struggling to think of what to wear with it. Anyway (I’m in Zurich right now) I had a read through this thread this morning when I got up then went out for breakfast. After that I decided to have a nice unplanned stroll around the city. A couple hours later, completely lost but loving the adventure, I was walking though this beautiful cobblestone area and I very unexpectedly ran into the Tom Ford boutique!

    094959_D9-8_DF8-4_D54-8_E37-4_F63_B8_F50_BD5.jpg

So of course I went in to have a look though the collection and sure enough they had this jacket in black and navy. As I was checking it out the salesman came up and said how fantastic it was and that it was actually in the latest Bond movie...and naturally I didn’t say “mate pretty much everything I’m wearing right now is Bond related, of course I know that” or “ I know what socks and underwear Bond wears, of course I know his jackets”...I went with the more restrained “ahh yes, I think I heard about that”. Much like my (another unexpected) visit to the Omega boutique in Vienna the other day when I was looking at one of their two Commander watches they had out and the saleswoman said “yes that’s a special edition for James Bond”...so I pulled up my jacket sleeve slightly to show the SP Seamaster and then got a “ahh well you definitely must know that already”.

Anyway sorry back to the topic, I usually take a 52/42/Large in most things so I tried it on in a 52 and it fit perfectly and looked and felt incredible; I really fell in love with it! Sleeve length was great and chest was fitted but still had some room if I wanted to say put a cashmere turtleneck underneath it. Padding was a lot thinner than I expected but it still seemed like it would do the job.

Now do I love it €1700 worth? Residing in tropical Australia, it’s a no from me...but I’ll definitely be grabbing Dan’s version now!

Done it many a time, sales assistants filling me in on the Bond connection meanwhile I am dressed in the gear and mentally I am filling in the blanks they don’t know :D

Then leave with that knowing smile.

Had exactly this when I bought the SPECTRE SM300 at the airport dressed in my SF PTS rig avec PO8500 on wrist for a biz trip. Then numerous TF sun glasses when dresssed in other Bond wear passing through duty free. :D

Occasionally I throw in a ‘yeah but did you know....’ just for fun.

    Cheers :007)
