Best USA Place to Buy Skyfall Barbour Jacket

Need a little help from the AJB community. I’ve had my eye on the Barbour jacket from Skyfall for quite some time. I don’t mind saving a few bucks and settling with the Commander or Sport edition one versus that of the original. Unfortunately, I still believe I’m between sizes at the Medium Large range. I just about pulled the trigger on one from Lands End clothing because of their 20% off sale, though noticed that they only offer free returns in the UK. I’ve tried the return process from USA to the UK with Sunspel and would prefer to avoid it again altogether. What are some of my options in terms of ordering from within the US at a competitive price point, but also having the option to return either for free, or relatively cheap, if I’m not satisfied with the fit? I’m not having a whole lot of luck with my google searches.

Also, have people seen these jackets fall below the $400 price point for a new one, meaning I should hold off for another sale to arise?

Thanks for all your help gents!

Not sure if anyone still carries them. I’d be surprised if any merchant still carries them.

I know what you mean. Shipping to and from the U.K. can be exhausting. I'm not seeing any US options to buy either. Best place is END clothing at the moment for only $500 and almost every size available. If your having trouble with sizing, maybe my review of the jacket on Iconic Alternatives will help (if you haven't already read it):

Unless things have changed recently, END also will not sell Barbour to the US...

Dang! When did that happen? I got my Barbour from END about 3 years ago. That sucks to hear.

Thanks for everyone's input! I've gone ahead and pulled the trigger on one from END. No error in terms of sending it to me in the states, though I'm sure they'll contact me soon if there is.

Sizing was what really had me second guessing. I referenced your article a lot, James Brosnan -- so thank you! I ended up using a few jackets I have from Royale Filmwear and a couple others in my personal collection to figure out what I wanted. I wear a medium in everything from Royale, though some are a bit tight in the chest/shoulders (where I've read that the Barbour runs a bit small). The Royale Harrington is tight on my chest, and a bit in the shoulders, though for a casual jacket, I love the fit. My goal is to actually wear the Barbour out in the country where my parents live, and I'm sure I'll do some shooting in it as well. For that reason, I opted with the large. I still think it will fit great, I'll just have a little bit more freedom/movement in the shoulders and chest!

On sale. Bit odd though that it's listed as "loose fitting" when everyone seems to indicate that it is extremely fitted and that you should probably size up. Have they changed the sizing or just an error on the part of End?

It has no practical use for me so I'll pass but I'm sure some people will want to pick it up on sale.

That's not a bad price but I can't get over the sizing jump from XL to XXL.

The jacket came today. Off the bat, the jacket just looks incredible. Fit is another story. My shoulders feel tight, though standing in the mirror, look too large. Its definitely too big in the waist, though I don't have a problem bringing that to my tailor to fix. Is the jacket easily altered through the waist, or would it be tough with the lining/membrane everyone talks about? With the feeling I have in the shoulders with the large, I'm worried that a medium would have fit great in the waist, but have been way too constricting otherwise.

I'm running out the door right now to a wedding up north so I can't ooo and awe at the jacket for too long. I'll get a better feel for it when I'm back in town on Sunday and hopefully post some pictures of the initial fit.

Based on what your saying about the large feeling too tight in the shoulders potentially sizing down into a medium would not be advised. I'm just curious but what are your chest and shoulder measurements because depending on what you choose to wear as a base layer may make the jacket even tighter.

Good to hear you got it from END! Not sure what was going on but when I tried to buy Barbour from END, Country Attire, etc. they all wouldn’t mail it to me in the US. More shopping!

You can probably send the jacket to Barbour, it they might not be as refined in taking the jacket in. It’s not the most fitting but when I have stuff in the game pocket and hip pockets, the silhouette isn’t too bad (M ToKiTo though; 38S/30W).

I was thinking he could send the jacket to Barbour but my concern is the shoulders being too tight. I was interested in getting this jacket for myself but the XXL is too small in the shoulders and was too big in the chest so i would need to go up to XXXL if it even exists and then tailor it down. How has your Tokito held up?

If the shoulders feel too tight but look too large, it's likely that the upper part of the sleeves are too narrow or not the right shape. Are you very muscular?

That size jump has to be wrong. Maybe a Large is 23" which would be half way between the medium and XL measurements.

I ordered a large. A picture is below of me wearing it. The sleeves are about an inch too long. The chest fits alright, and the shoulders aren't as bad now that I've wore it for more than just a few moments. I think the strain that I'm feeling is actually across my shoulder blades on my back, though only once I'm moving. Standing still is quite comfortable. The waist is what gets me. I can get a full two fists between my stomach and the jacket without straining it. The picture may not show it that much, but that is really my big complaint over the fit. If I could move the center button about two inches left, creating a tighter waist, the fit would be a lot better.

I don't think I'd ever wear more than a light sweater under it, so maybe I should have opted for a medium? I don't know how much difference it would have had in the waist/stomach, but if END's fit guide is correct in that it is only half an inch smaller in the chest and shoulders, it may have worked.

My measurements are: 5' 11", 185 lbs, 41" chest, 34" waist. I wouldn't characterize myself as a really muscular guy, though I'm fit, lift weights, and have played athletics all my life.

I still don't know what to make of it. I love the jacket itself, but I know that I won't wear it a ton if I'm not a fan of the fit. On Barbour's website, I see all sorts of alterations that they will do, but can't find anything referencing taking the waist in. Would it be a gamble to bring it to a regular tailor and see if they can do it? I've read on other places online that it may ruin the coating/lining.

Thanks for all your help so far gents!

So glad to see you grabbed one man! I am sorry to hear about the trouble with the fit though. It does seem that a medium would fix all the oversized issues, but may over restrict you in the shoulders and chest. With this jacket I would recommend getting it done by Barbour, as the lining could prove challenging. I would recommend asking Barbour if it's easier to take in the waist or take out the chest. If it's easier for them to take out the chest, you could always exchange it for the medium and have them let it out. The jacket looks great on you despite the sizing issues. I hope you get everything worked out. :007)

This is generally why I always buy from places with free returns, pick up two sizes try them on and send back the one that does not fit. These jackets (at least the originals) are very slim fit to say the least, the versions that flowed do seem to be cut more for the more stocky European market (or none Far East vs the originals which were more for the Japanese or Asian market).

Would agree with others if you are going to get it tailored do it via Barbour themselves they can generally do most nip and tucks.

David, didn't you have yours let out an inch at the back? Or am I thinking of someone else?

I had thought about having that done as well, but don't know if I would need to send it back to Barbour else I might invalidate the lifetime warranty. Do you recall how much there was to let out? I presume you did that just vis the centre seam in the back?

I live in the northeast USA. Would anyone describe this as a good winter jacket? What weather would this jacket work in?I am interested but I already have the Royale Solden and Harrington and don't really "need" another fall coat, but a winter one....

I just received the Barbour Dept. B jacket from END and I can’t wait to break this jacket out for regular use. I ordered the small and it fits me perfectly with just a small amount of room to fill in when I start hitting the gym and bulking up. Also I love the way it looks on me as well as the look of the jacket in general. It really is one of the most iconic pieces of Bond clothing in existence. As far as the weather this jacket is most suited to, I refer to the review James Brosnan write on Iconic Alternatives. This jacket is ideal is rainy, overcast weather. A perfect fall or early spring “April Showers” jacket.

I don't get much use of it in winter. Chilly/damp fall days and as winter breaks to spring.

Only if you layer up and depends on the temp of course. Probably better suited to Spring or Fall (Autumn).
