Bob Curry, the homeless ex sas sergeant.

I'm upset to hear about Bob Curry, Bob is ex sas, he was one of the men in black who stormed the Iranian embassy in London, in fact he was one of the first in. Bob had a small business that failed and as a consequence he lost his home and is now homeless. The sas regimental association are currently paying for Bob to live in a b and b, not ideal for a man who gave 17 years service, served in the Falklands and worked as close protection for princess Diana. There is petition to sign which now needs only 2500 more signatures here's the link https://www.change.org/p/andy-mcnab-give-a-home-to-sas-hero-bob-0017f681-18bb-4e53-bd07-6c1d8a0c14da?recruiter=443111134&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition&utm_term=231120

Signed. It's a shame the government doesn't do more for
Ex service men and women. Who sacrifice so much for
    The rest of us.

Many thanks to those who signed the petition, it has now reached its desired amount and will be presented to Herefordshire county council. I hope they do right by Bob.

Just signed it there. Glad to hear it's reached the required amount. It's shameful that more is not done for such ex-servicemen and servicewomen. It's all down to central government in the end analysis. They need to step up to the plate. They can give plenty of money to pay for benefits to single mums, alcoholics (and even Foreign Aid), so why not ex-personnel who have served their country?

Sorry to bring politics into this ,but if you look at the vat exemptions for children going to Eton , and the rule bending these schools get ,because most prime ministers and lots of M Ps went there ,you can see why poor old Bob gets sod all

But veterans weren't treated any better back when many men in leading positions had military backgrounds. I wonder if veterans would be better treated of more politicians had server in the armen forces.

As a veteran I wonder why veterans ask for more. We did a job and left. It's not up to the tax payer to keep us for the rest of our years. We did a job we agreed on, got paid and then left before our excellent pension was due. If I did my full service and got a shitty pension, I'd agree, but I won't hold the MOD and HMG to account for poor business and life choices I've made after I've left the Forces before I had to. It's something to consider. It's not all black and white. Sometimes people make bad business and life decisions.

Asp is right, Bobs business failed, businesses fail all the time, but the kicker here is that we have a welfare system that costs millions and Bob should be entitled to help, and as a veteran and ex service man he should be able to rely on that system, and it's failed him so far, yet many people who know how to play that welfare system choose it as a life choice, and glean new homes, and a livable "wage" from it and will never do anything constructive for society or put anything back into the system. I would much rather see my tax money going towards people like Bob rather than layabout ne'er do wells.

Maybe multimillionaire Andy Mcnab or Christ Ryan could help him out just a thought!

I'm pretty sure they've both donated to the regimental association.

And rightly so as seeing they made their money on the back of the sas and to put it politely their exaggerated story's!

I must say ,due to all my rankings about “the system” I must agree with ASP 9 mm on this ,would we be feeling the same about some poor old mr plod (like me) :)) who did his time willingly took his chance like the other 300 000 mr plods ,started up a business ,that goes pear shaped ,no probably not , it is a shame for this guy ,but I’m afraid that’s how things are ,but more does need to be done for these poor guys that have been seriously injured and can’t get work in civvy street ,and I’m sure not a day goes by when the likes of our esteemed member ASP 9 mm ,doesn’t think ,there for the grace of god go i

As the OP. I feel I must defend my position in posting this in the first place, It actually is a political subject more so than a "poor Bob, served his country, now he's homeless so let's help him out, because he was an sas member you know!"
What irks me as an ex serviceman myself and a veteran of sorts ( define veteran?) is that we have a welfare system in place which should be used as a safety net for those who fall on bad times through no fault of their own. But it simply does not work. We have developed a culture in this country whereby government money (ie tax money deducted from working people) is paid out to some people (not all) who have never and have no intention of ever living any other way, they get payments for all sorts of things even summer houses, cars, get pregnant? Don't panic here's £350 to buy those essentials courtesy of your friendly hard working tax payer. I have never claimed a penny in my life, I also lost my pension and due to my age I will have to work until 70 before I receive anything from the government that I've paid into. It's simply wrong, people like Bob deserve better from the system, as does anyone who finds themselves in his position, including police officers who I know many of. Bob could have demobbed, signed on etc but he didn't it's not the way for men like that, he ran a business which UK as ultimately failed, he's paid his taxes and he's done his due, is it so wrong for him to be looked after by the safety net until he gets back on his feet?
