Goldeneye Mine - Help Much Appreciated

Hello All!

I’m a complete novice when it comes to building anything but I’m just about to start work on my very own prop build. A mine from the Cuba Bunker scenes in Goldeneye.

I’ve managed to get a Joystick off EBay and with help from Gadget Meister (many thanks) I’ve got the circuits and also primer paint and sandpaper so I’m already to go.

There is just one thing that I’m not sure of. On the base of the joystick there’s a little switch. I’m not sure what to do with it. When people have made these do they leave it and just paint it? Do they take switch off and the full the gap in? And if you do fill the gap in then what do you use?

Here’s a photo if you’re not sure what I mean:

Also if anyone can advise/confirm what was done on the original props then that’d be much appreciated.

I bought mine complete but have just checked.
There are 2 oblong panels between the legs both of them have been filled.
There is also a small arched hole on another side (cable joke?) that has not been filled.

Remove switch, superglue a strip of 0.25mm plasticard (rough up the plasticard with a knife making a lightly scored hatched pattern before gluing in) on the inside of the casing over the hole, on the outside fill the hole with isopon p38 car body filler and sand back with 400 grit paper before using a plastic primer then top coat of colour.

Just to jump in on this thread, can anyone confirm which paint to use? I ordered an olive drab spray paint but it appears to be quite a bit darker than the screen used colour.
