This may sound silly and many of you will probably think it won't be worth the effort but I was presented with an unused Jotter from the 90s that was given as a gift to my mother and left to dust.
When I insert a cartridge into it, it won't lock or do the satisfying click they are known for. You have to push it in in order to be able to use the cartridge and it won't retract.
Any suggestions for the spring?

But... maybe if I warmed it up it might become un-stuck.
Or lubricate it somehow.
It appears to be a problem with the spring that works with the retracting mechanism.
The screw part is metal but that doesn't appear to be bad.
As far as I'm aware, if the spring comes undone from its position at the tip of the pen, you're pretty much Trump'd
Is that like a golden shower but in code
We are talking about the GE ballpoint, not a fountain pen Chris )
So, is there a problem with the click mechanism, how it is sort of jagged on the refill and inside the cap ?

Actually, I fixed the problem.
Not entirely, but enough for it to click and retract properly.
It was accidental, I stuck the cartridge to the "mouth" of the pen as far as it could go, which, in turn, probably straightened out the spring and it now clicks properly.
