Probaby real/probably fake Rolex TB ad

Jake's Rolex World shows a vintage ad

James-Bond-Thunderball-Rolex-ad.jpg

and discusses if it's real or not.

While many will say "Fake, Rolex never officially endorsed their watches", imo Jake has a point because Rolex was credited in some 007 movies.

My take is, that any image showing Claudine Auger in a bikini is never a waste of space and time :D

Food for thought.

Judging by the stains it's already been utilised for that purpose! :p

I actually saw that image on Instagram some time ago and saved a copy of it. I like it, however I discounted it as a made up. Nevertheless I think it was rather well done and simple depicting a 5513 that was available in that configuration (explorer dial) at that time (1965). Moreover it depicts a more up to date model of the Submariner that Connery actually wore which was most likely a late 50's big crown, no crown guard model.

This looks like my Rolex watch. But my watch I think was cheaper than this? It cost £15! I think perhaps that it could not be real!

    You think! :))

Definitely not real at that price, Joshua! Try £1500 for a second hand one. If something's too good to be true, it usually is! :007)

I’d like to see you get a Sub for £1500. Even a battered one without bracelet, box or papers.

[Maybe at some auction or something not like I'd know anything about that... :v ;)

Yes, I was thinking that would still be pretty cheap myself, Aspy.

I suppose I was relying on that particular figure because I once saw an old Rolex in the window of one of those money for gold loan/pawn shops. I think it was priced at £1500 which, rather amusingly, I initially misread as £15.00. I was just about to rush to the nearest ATM when I realised my grave mistake! :))

It seems to me that there are sadly more fakes around than the genuine articles. :#

I would say it is fake.
Why would Rolex endorse a 5513 model that doesn't correspond to the movie (big crown)?
Price of vintage Rolexes have gone up like crazy.

    I'm going to say fake.
If you google Rolex Advert 1965, it comes up with a bunch of mid 60s Ads all of them with a similar Corporate style, with a small Rolex Badge, similar to this example.

    image.jpg

There are no other examples with a big Rolex blue banner.
    But I do like it.
