Need advice for RM William boots

What do you recommend between the RM Williams comfort Allrounder (thicker leather) and Craftsman (thinner leather) models?
Does the thickness of the leather requires to size-up?
It looks like the Craftsman model doesn't age well and gets all rinckled over time.
Do you know which of the two DC was wearing in the movie Layer Cake?

Cheers

Hi for what it's worth I've been wearing craftsmans with non slip rather than leather soles for decades. They wear very well. I have them in black and chestnut. I replaced a black pair last year I would have had that pair for many years cheers

I have the Comfort Craftsman (rubber sole, I think they call them the Comfort RM now) and the Turnouts with the leather sole. I find the leather on the Craftsmans to be a bit thicker than on the Turnouts. But I take the same size in both. The thing to remember is that since these are 1 piece leather they are going to stretch out and conform to your foot; there are no seams or double layers of leather to give the boot structure or reinforcement. It's all based on the forming of the leather. So they should be a snug (but not tight) at the start.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of really thick leather boots unless they fit perfectly out of the box. I just don't have patience any more for long break-in times. I had a pair of Blundstones that were very thick and the blisters I got during the break-in period were brutal. I ended up selling them off.

As for the wrinkling, I haven't noticed any issues with my Craftsmans. They wrinkle like boots do. I think there are two things to keep in mind. First, if the boot doesn't fit you correctly (too loose, especially in my experience), you will get more creasing across the vamp. Second: they're boots so they're supposed to look they've been worn (IMHO). I think it adds character.

The Craftsmans do scuff easily. But I just give them a quick wipe with some Bick 4 now and again and that usually takes care of the problem.

Here's a pic of my boots. The Turnouts are about 3 years old and the Craftsmans are about a year and half.

    Hope that helps!

They get lots of wear, but I try to take care of them. A quick brushing after wearing and I use shoe trees. And I condition them 2 or 3 times a year. That's about it

The pic below shows the creasings that appear on a lot of these boots.
I wonder if this is due to the thin leather.

That sure does not look very good considering the cost of those boots.

Believe it or not, this is the look some people are going for - comfy and lived-in. If this is not the look you want, don't wear your boots more than 2 days in a row. Give them a rest between wearings with shoe trees installed (cedar ones preferably, they absorb any moisture. Shoe trees are critical! Keep them clean and rub a conditioner into the uppers every month to keep the leather supple. I've had a pair of comfort craftsmen now for 2 years and they still look like new. Then again, I only wear them maybe twice a week.
