Why Did Moore Look Different In AVTAK?

DavidJonesDavidJones BermondseyPosts: 266MI6 Agent
I thought Roger looked great in FYEO and OP - perhaps eight years younger than he really was.

In AVTAK, however, his eyes seemed wider, somehow, and a brighter blue, whild his hair had blonde highlights (a little like he did in The Persuaders).

Does anyone know why? Different lightning, perhaps? I heard he lose weight, which might have had something to do with it.

Moore had some work done to his face. He had a facelift, and his mole was removed. But his hair often had a lot of blonde in some of his previous Bond films. You'll especially see it in parts of Moonraker and For Your Eyes Only.

I think due to Scheduling problems, he had to start work on the films early. So hadn't
fully recovered from the sugery. Proving once again how much of a professional Sir Roger
    was -{

Other than the facelift and hair transplant work Moore is much slimmer in AVTAK than he is in OP and looks better IMO.

You think he had a hair transplant? I heard somewhere that he had hair added before scenes or something.

I don't think it was because his facelift hadn't healed. He looks the same several months later when promoted the film on Wogan and Good Morning America.

I'm surprised they let him star, tbh, but maybe it was too late when they saw him.

He did a film between his last two Bonds, 1984's The Naked Face (the ending of which would be interesting to Bond fans), though I can't remember how he looked in it.

I don't think he had a hair transplant either. I heard the same, and they used a lot of product to thicken his hair. Were hair transplants even a thing back then?

He still had the mole in The Naked Face and looks the same as he looks in Octopussy.

The mole was obviously removed so it didnt, er, move :)

Elton John didn't have a transplant until around 1990, while William Shatner had it for Star Trek 4, so it was achievable. Talking of whom, there's an amusingly analytical site called Shatner's toupee, or something, which is even more obsessive than this thread :)

What sort of product would have thickened his hair? If anything, that was surely an indicator that his time was sadly up.

Ooh, I dunno. I mean really, transplants were just not effective then. I don't call Barbel a liar it's just what we see with Frank in the 70s is a wig, so I think we do see some stars saying they've had a transplant when really they are going for a wig or weave, one is real the other isn't and more ignominuous.

I think Moore had a bit of 'touching up', bit of filler on his hair that's all. He does look different in AVTAK and he does seem leaner imo and often younger, maybe due to a facelift. He denied it at the time.

Sinatra wasn't pleased with his transplants, and did go back to a wig for public appearances.

Here he is minus toupé in 73:

and here with it in 74:

Ah, yeah, okay... thing is, they don't even work nowadays necessarily so not sure what was going on then? Wayne Rooney's has always been variable. Looks good, puts it on Twitter, then if falls out a bit... Makes you wonder if the top pick wasn't Wig Mark 1 when he was trying to look more realistic, then went for a more showbiz approach later.

It reminds me of Marlon Brando, saying why he didn't like Sinatra much, 'He's the kind of guy who when he dies gives God a hard time for making him bald...' :D

The first pic is carefully posed and lit and possibly touched up- there are other photos from that recording session which are clearer, but I can't see any of them online to show you.

I think James Nesbitt's hair transplant was a great success.

He was really almost bald before it.

Yes, it does sometimes work. It didn't for Elton John, but it did for Kevin Costner.

But the most astonishing is Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

Assuming that is as he says, a transplant.

John Cleese has also had multiple hair transplants--he enjoys talking about them.

I recall being leaving the theater after seeing A View to a Kill. My little circle of Bond fan friends and I all thought Moore was old-man creepy in parts -- he seemed to leer more than once in a strange, wide-eyed way. The first time you see it is aboard the iceberg boat, when he holds up the microchip. In other scenes, he looks more natural, but he looks different depending on when they filmed.
