Question about the Anthony Sinclair/Mason & Sons Bond suits.

Has anyone here purchased one of these? I'm in Chicago and I'm unable to arrange a fitting. But even without trying one on I know off-the-bat I'd like to make some alterations. It has a pretty high button stance that should come down, I'll need to suppress the jacket's waist, and I definitely go with a fully canvassed version. Additionally, and I'll need to talk to them directly, I'd like a slightly narrower lapel on the midnight shawl tuxedo.

All of those alterations will preclude items from being returned if the fit is poor. So my question is to the people who have one of these suits: is there an off the rack designer I could try on to get a good approximation of the fit? E.g. Brooks Brothers Milano cut, Zegna Torino, or what have you. It doesn't need to be a perfect 1:1. Just something that will give me a good idea of the fit and feel.

I have a special order suit from them. There's nothing like being able to try on one of their own suits and then making adjustments from there. You'll need to know what the closest size in their suits is to your size. I'm not a very tall person, but the 38L in the Slim model is closest to my own size. These suits feel quite unique to anything else I've tried on, and even tiny variations make a tremendous difference in the fit and feel of a suit. It's why two suits with exactly the same measurements can fit completely different.

Have you asked them if they're going to be in Chicago any time soon? Talking to them over the phone, they may be able to help you fine a fit that's right for you. I don't know if they will do a Special Order suit without you having tried on one of their suits first.

Ugh, this is one of my primary concerns too. Proportionally, I have a shorter torso compared to my legs. A slightly longer jacket sorta creates an optical illusion that offsets that appearance. Now I'm even more worried about blindly ordering.

I'll just have to wait for a trunk show either in Chicago or somewhere stateside with decent airfare. Though I did talk to them and I was told they'll do the special order customization (full canvass, lower button) without having been fitted by them.

You definitely need to go for a measuring. David is meticulous. I have some of his ready to wear suits and I agree the button is a little high on me. I took a suit that I had made for me by Gieves and David knew where it was made. It fitted me well so David took the measurements off my suit. I spent ages with them choosing a fabric (to match the QOS Brown Bolivia suit) and then David sent it to the same tailors to be made. Even then it was not quite right (I went for the 2 1/2 button look) and so David and Elliot are altering it so it is perfect.

It's also a lovely experience meeting David and chatting about the Anthony Sinclair brand etc. He (and his son Elliot) are big Bond fans and so it's great to meet them and share our passion for Anthony Sinclair, fashion and Bond.

Hope this is helpful for you.

There are measurements on the site. But the Slim model is a shorter jacket, hence why I had to start with a Long size. If you need a shorter jacket, the Slim model is already shorter than the Classic. The Slim also has a lot of waist suppression.

At the risk of repetition - there's no substitute for getting it fitted in person so I would do everything you can to get up to New York when David is over there. I have one of their suits and the alterations he made based on the fitting mean I have an exceptionally well fitted suit.

    Great quality and great service!

For anyone else in Chicago/midwest: I've been in contact with Mason & Sons and they'll be in Chicago next month! No exact date yet though. I'll keep the thread updated.

That's fantastic they're going to be there. There's nothing else like being fitted for a suit the proper way.

I wrote a review on my special order suit, which may help you with some ideas: http://www.bondsuits.com/anthony-sinclair-special-order-suit-modern-english-tailoring/

You're already on the right track with wanting the button stance lowered. I may go even lower next time.
