A really, really stupid question about the World Cup...

Aside from, how come James Bond is manager of the Swiss team?

And how come we haven't started a World Cup thread yet?

It's those Red Square backdrops for the BBC and ITV shows, to when the presenters and guests chat about the match.

Does that mean they actually have a studio nr Red Square, and that's the live background?

Or is it simply a big plasma screen behind them, with a live feed of what is going on there, and the studio is elsewhere?

Anyway, having it in Russia has done wonders for team etiquette. You don't see players surround the referee after a controversial decision - over there it's more than two in a protest and you get arrested. :D

The reason why we have no World Cup thread is that most of us have a life ,and we have better things to do
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

Well I'm out in my garden watching flocks of bright green paraqueets (a small parrot) chase each other round the trees

There are no stupid questions about the World Cup, only stupid referees! :D

To respond to your original question, although I haven't been watching any WC coverage, when events like this happen - not just sports, but big news stories etc - those studio booths usually are located in the location shown. It's good advertising for the host city/country. However, as you wondered, there are also times when the studio just has a live video feed in the background. Unfortunately, I can't answer your question but I'd guess that they're actually there.

Now we have a World Cup thread :)) I did notice that one of the bookmakers was offering very good odds on England getting to the play offs , or what ever the terminology is 8-) so they obviously believe their money is safe

Just a random thought on the World Cup , I did watch the IKEA v BMW match Lat night , and the thought crossed my mind that not since the war , has Russia had so many Germans in its country , which is great that we can all get on in sport

Well Panama were good weren't they? :))

I can see Germany winning it now after last nights comeback. Though they may have to drop Boateng once his suspension has finished.

Here we have an expression used about the very smartest football players:"He knows were the goal is."
Is that praise or something simular used in other countries?

We’re having a brilliant World Cup time here. The clubhouse on our gated community is open for all the games which means that the last ones played in the day don’t end until about 03.00. It’s like a League of Nations with ex-pats from all over the world. New friendships have been forged and there is lots of good humoured banter. Sport, especially football, is great at bringing people together and the world would be a poorer place without it.

Who'd have thought it, England finally win a penalty shoot out! Winning the world cup is surely now secondary to that.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

I have a idea for future world cups . I might even write to the FA . My idea is to do away with penalties . We all hate them . And if it's a draw then the team that has most yellow cards because of their low down cheating shirt pulling filthy antics loses ,This will cut out the help my I'm dying rolling around on the floor trying to cheat at the stroke of a pen

I'm not sure I can deal with Saturday either. Football on screen is the mortal enemy of bands playing in pubs. :(

I’ve just walked back from the clubhouse in the rain after watching England play through the night - it’s 06.00 here. What a night of unscripted drama! I find it incredible how anyone cannot get caught up in the excitement of it all. Boo - hiss - to all you football haters :)) :D

I’m off to bed will not be up until after midday. Goodnight all.
