So I was in matera for 3 weeks as a spectator. And overheard a load of information from the crew who didn’t seem to care how loud they were talking. When a camera assistant was asked what his favourite scene to film was, he replied ‘the control room scene’. And watching Dr No last night and hearing one of Dr No’s staff say ‘we are ready for you in the control room’ really made me think this could be a Dr No Time To Die film ;) I do have plenty more spoilers from Matera but don’t want to ruin too much :)

Many other Bond films have control room scenes as well, so it doesn't necessarily mean that Malek is playing Dr. No (though he very well could be). YOLT, DAF, TMWTGG, TSWLM and MR are a few that come to mind. They often blow up, and if this was a favourite scene to film it probably means that the NTTD control room will also blow up.

Yeah but for the locations to be near enough the same as Dr No gave me the inkling. Of course it could be any of them but YOLT and DAF was Blofelds, TMWTGG was Scaramanga’s, TSWLM AND MR seem too far out of the potential story lines. And Rami looks like Dr No’s double. But SPECTRE are involved heavily with the film so we shall see :)

Let's just hope they don't blow it up five minutes after arriving and return to London for the last act.

I know there has been alot of discussion around this on the other forums but trailer wise whats everyones thoughts to 25th release this month?

I know there has been word on it going with SW in December but with TalkShow on CBS having a segment next tuesday on the subject could we get it friday? Ties in with it being B25 and other releases so far in the marketing happening 25th of the month. We know the teaser is ready and i cant see them skipping a teaser for the film and cant see them realistically delaying the teaser further as the theatrical should surely drop in the first 2 months of next year so why would they drop a teaser and theatrical within a short space of time?...

Of course the above it purely down to impatience and hunger to have something to rave about as we've waited 4+ years. Of course what is another few weeks / months but i feel lately we've been starved of something. Jamaica video was cool and i got the feeling we would have a steady drip of stuff like SP but hasnt happened which i feel is unusual but thats just my 2 cents on the matter.

    Friday teaser trailer would be outstanding though! And welcomed by quite a few patient fans -{

A 26 October drop would match exactly the Skyfall teaser trailer's release in relation to its UK release date.

As that is a Saturday, yes, I could see the 25th, this Friday, being the day they drop it to ensure the entertainment media report on it. I've speculated before that they could be following Skyfall's marketing plan.
    https://www.ajb007.co.uk/post/956290/#p956290

Unfortunately today there is nothing on the BBFC website about the NTTD teaser. Skyfall's teaser was approved 11 days before its release, and so on that basis the teaser can't be released on 25 Oct, this Friday.

With all this talk of a trailer, I find it odd that there haven't even been any images released from the film yet. Don't a few of those usually come before anything else? All we have is a shot of Craig walking in London (which feels more like an Instagram photo), and the most lacklustre teaser poster of the franchise. Seems like very little so far - but then perhaps they're being extra cautious after the leaks surrounding Spectre.

Really good points, can always rely on you Someone to bring good conversation and analysis to the threads.

Quick question, i believe someone over at MI6 has a friend at BBFC, would the BBFC refrain from publishing their certification if the production company specifically asks them to? I believe this friend of someone on the other forum has remained tight lipped and quieter than usual on the subject.

I presume the BBFC's rules are to publish their decision at once but could the producers have worked their magic and kept it quiet until the release of the teaser then publish?
Appreciate it may be unlikely but has there been a story of this in the past or does anyone have more insight?

I highly doubt the trailer drops out of nowhere. They will probably announce it days in advance to build anticipation. My guess is some time in November.

So, allegedly Fukunaga has filmed 3 endings to NTTD. Is it misdirection, so if the end leaks, they can claim it isn't that when actually it is?
    https://twitter.com/NO_TIME_TO_DIE/status/1186408213090058241?s=20

Then again, 3 endings may hint at what we're going to get. The most obvious 3 are, Bond dies, Bond lives, Bond's 'death' is ambiguous.

You could argue that you could do that with Lashana Lynch's Nomi and Lea Seydoux's Madeleine. Malek's villain probably has to die, but Waltz's Blofeld could have an ambiguous death. That character has certainly had ambiguous escapes in the past.

Other alternate endings could be, Bond returns or doesn't to MI6. Madeleine and Bond are still together, or not, at the end. An obvious combination for the actual finale is Bond does finally ride off into the sunset with Madeleine at the end, and doesn't return to MI6.

For me, the key part is what happens to Nomi. When asked if this is his last, DC's says, 'I think so'. Not very categorical. I'm assuming that for there to be a way open for DC to be in B26, he needs to return to MI6. Can he really walk away again and then they have to spend a chunk of the film explaining why he comes back? (Well, yes, if they can repeatedly have him go rogue...)

For Bond to return, I think one of the endings will have to be Nomi is either killed (maybe she dies from an Irma Bunt bullet and not Madeleine) or injured into early retirement or a desk job; I don't think they can simply repeat the Eve Moneypenny story line where she gives up field work due to an unlucky shot.

Per the official 007 social media, NTTD has wrapped. Looks like the final scene they filmed was Bond in his evening regalia. Obviously fitting if that’s the last scene DC ever shoots in character.

Remi Malek as Dr No... I kinda had that thought a while ago as well and to be honest I'm hoping it's true!

I find this highly unlikely. Even though there have been other recurring characters (M, Q, Blofeld etc) there has never been even a suggestion of a "rebooted" character from yesteryear. If they start down this road where will it end - Goldfinger?
  • SomeoneSomeone Posts: 1,607MI6 Agent
Today is the same number of days before the NTTD release date as when Skyfall's teaser trailer was released, 159 days.
    https://www.ajb007.co.uk/post/961331/#p961331

And still nothing on the BBFC website. At what point does the minimalist marketing begin to hurt the film?

On 31 July 2012 the first full Skyfall trailer was released, 87 days before the 26 October UK release date. For NTTD, 87 days before its 2 April release would be 6 January 2020. So, suggestions that the first full trailer will be attached to the Star Wars movie at Christmas (20 December for USA) makes sense, but one wonders where that leaves the teaser trailer? Will there even be one?

There were 72 days (2.4 months) between the Skyfall teaser (21 May 2012) and the first full trailer (31 July 2012). If the historical BBFC approval pattern for DC's films holds and, let's say, this Monday (28 Oct) the BBFC teaser approval goes live, then it could be up to 10 days later that the teaser is dropped. So, the teaser lands 61 days before the first full trailer. At what point does dropping a teaser become pointless? 30 days before the full trailer? 40 days?

For me, the question now is, will there be a teaser trailer? With every day that passes that likelihood must diminish.

BTW 27 Sept 2012, the first Skyfall TV spot was released, 29 days before the release date. This would equate to 4 March 2020 with a 2 April UK release date.

And that first image shown on Empireonline today, is Bond in a cable car station, or top of a mine? Is he wearing some climbing gear? I suspect images from the film are going to tell very little.
  • SomeoneSomeone Posts: 1,607MI6 Agent
If that official still of Bond next to huge wheels with cables is for a mine shaft elevator and not a cable car, I speculated on this a while ago as the early Spectre script drafts had a diamond mine in Africa as part of the plot. An early Spectre draft also had Bond and Q escape a mine collapse.

Wondering if there will be DAF elements and Rami Malek would play a Spang brother.

I'd much rather that than him play Dr No. As I'm not particularly down for past villains returning. Blofeld works because he was always a recurring character, but any others would not seem right to me, and it would also open up endless possibilities of several past villains returning...

Looking at Bond's trousers (pants) and that belt.
    https://twitter.com/NO_TIME_TO_DIE/status/1188063270776770561?s=20

And then looking at Nomi's trousers and her belt.
    https://twitter.com/TheTchaikovsky/status/1177256855569088512?s=20

Are we looking at an MI6 'assault' outfit? While different colours both trousers seem to be made from the same material and have thigh pockets, and Bond appears to have a holstered weapon at about the same location on his right thigh as Nomi's.

While Nomi has her belt going through the loops on her top, Bond has lost his top, but both belts are the same width and Bond's belt appears to have loops on it which could have the magazine holders attached, which we see on Nomi's belt. I thought it was a climbing belt for rope attachments, but now I think what is obscured is the vertical belt running down to the weapon, and any strap around Bond's right leg is also obscured.

Just as Skyfall's first official still was Bond firing his weapon in the Skyfall manor house, I wonder if this is a shot from the third act of NTTD?

The apparent photo of Bond in a mine shaft next to the elevator drums and their steel cables has made me revisit the early Spectre drafts, leaked in the Sony email hack, and posted on here by the user Marketto007.

In those early Spectre drafts, a diamond mine in Africa was part of the plot. An early Spectre draft also had Bond and Q escape a mine collapse. I think the mine is part of the third act, but Q won’t be present.

We know that the synopsis is:
Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica.
His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help.
The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

In an early version of Spectre’s script there is a Scandinavian villa and a young girl. We now know this as scene 15K. I think this is a Madeleine dream sequence after the credits, and not the PTS, and a sleeping Madeleine wakes up in the DB5 and scene 16 sees her and Bond arrive in Matera. It’s now clear from the official and unofficial clapperboard pics that Matera is where Spectre finds them both and the sequence ends with Bond putting Madeleine on a train; and there they go their separate ways.

In film structure the first 10-minutes is supposed to be when the main characters are introduced. I think the dream sequence introduces Malek’s character; we now know that Rami Malek has done some Norway filming. The PTS, I think will be a Blofeld jail break action sequence without Bond. A free Blofeld then sends his goons to get Bond and Madeleine. The PTS may end with the ‘shock’ scene of M’s meeting with 007, who is revealed as Nomi. Her mission, to find Spectre and recapture Blofeld.

After Matera, as the synopsis says, Bond is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica, when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help to rescue a kidnapped scientist, who will probably be Dencik’s character, Waldo. The mission, which I think takes Bond to Cuba, turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, and this is linked to the early Spectre drafts where there is a CIA agent called Charlotte who Bond worked with and who turns out to be a villain. Instead of a Charlotte, maybe it is Billy Magnussen’s CIA agent who betrays Bond and Leiter? The Sony hack emails also said that the CIA was working with Blofeld. We know Bond encounters Nomi in Jamaica. He may not know who she is then and she may later save Bond and Leiter in Cuba.

The fallout from the rescue mission could be a plot angle described in the Sony emails that “allies," the CIA and MI6, "are being picked apart creating paranoia and suspicion". This maybe why Bond goes back to MI6 to warn them. He then teams up with Lashana Lynch’s Nomi, and visits Q at his home, as we know. I think the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology leads Bond to see Madeleine for help. We know from a JamesBondBrasil story that we see Madeleine’s place of work in the film.

You then have a team of Bond, Nomi and Madeleine. This would explain why we see Madeleine and Nomi in the rocky beach pictures and then a RIB that appears to have Bond, Nomi and Madeleine onboard. In Casino, Bond worked with Vesper and Mathis at the same time, so I am not discouraged by the fact that there would be three of them. Why the trail leads them to a (Norwegian or Russian?) mine shaft is anyone’s guess, but I think Nomi and Bond wearing similar trousers shows that the mine shaft pic and the rocky beach pic with Madeleine are linked, and puts the mine in the third act.

Yesterday was the same number of days before the NTTD release date as when Skyfall's teaser trailer was released, 159 days.
    https://www.ajb007.co.uk/post/961331/#p961331

We now know Friday 25 October was the end of filming for NTTD.

In comparison, Skyfall's teaser came out on 21 May 2012, two days after filming wrapped on 19 May.
The BBFC decision for the Skyfall teaser was 10 May 2012, 11 days before the trailer release.
The film's full trailer came out 2 months later on 31 July; 87 days before the 26 October UK release date.
    https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=10191

For NTTD, 87 days before its 2 April release would be 6 January 2020. So, suggestions that the first full trailer will be attached to the Star Wars movie at Christmas (20 December for USA) makes sense.

There were 72 days between the Skyfall teaser (21 May 2012) and the first full trailer (31 July 2012). Whether it is a 20 Dec. trailer or 6 January, we are now within that 72-day period, suggesting the teaser wait will be shorter for NTTD.

After a mid-June filming finish for Quantum, the teaser came out a couple of weeks later on 30 June.
The BBFC decision did not predate the teaser drop for Quantum.
The full trailer came out about four weeks after the teaser, on 28 July 2008.
    https://www.mi6-hq.com/sections/articles/bond_22_trailer_released.php3?t=qos&s=qo
    https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=6403

With a wait of 4 weeks between the Quantum teaser and full trailer, a 20 December trailer would see a late November NTTD teaser. If the historical BBFC approval pattern for DC's films holds, the approval could go live up to 10 days before the NTTD teaser drops, giving us a notification date of mid-November. A while off.

The teaser for Spectre came out on 27 March, more than 3 months before filming ended on 5 July and the full trailer was out 22 July.
For the Spectre teaser, the BBFC decision was 18 March 2015, 10 days before.
    https://bbfc.co.uk/releases/spectre-2015
    https://mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=11789

I've just noticed that Spectre, Skyfall and Quantum all had late July full trailer releases with late October UK release dates for all three films.

Casino's trailer was out 7 September, about three weeks after filming wrapped on 15 August, 200 days after a 27 January start. Casino's teaser trailer had come out 4 May 2006 after being approved by the BBFC 7 days earlier on 28 April. https://bbfc.co.uk/releases/casino-royale-2006-1
Casino's UK release date was 14 November, 68 days (2 months) after the full trailer.
    https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=3286&catid=2
    https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/no-time-to-die-completes-principal-photography-today-191026?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

The late July trailer releases reinforce the late December, early January timetable for the NTTD full trailer. Then again, NTTD has a much longer post-production period, so could the full trailer be earlier? I think that as the trailers so consistently come out 3 months before the release date (with the exception of Casino), that won't change. But, the teaser could be with us before the end of November and maybe as early as mid-November. With a 10-day BBFC approval notification we may know by Friday 1 November, or maybe the following Friday.

While the Matera photos and videos were a bit much, overall I think we have seen very little. For example, my hypothesis does not include Paloma. Where does she fit in? I have no idea.

    It‘s good to have you here, always thoughtful and interesting contributions. -{

I‘ve read somewhere that Paloma will be a henchwoman. Since Ana de Armas isn‘t menacing, etc. at all, I believe she‘ll be a Magda, Paris Carver or Corinne Dufour.
The name is Walker by the way.

I just want the trailer already. Someone mentioned earlier that a moment might come that postponing the trailer release any further might actually hurt the film and they're not wrong - in the end when you look at big blockbuster movies there are usually 3 trailers + endless TV spots. Bond movies usually had 2 trailers + around 15 spots and honestly I start to think we won't get 2 trailers this time. It's a really weird, silent marketing campaign.

We will definitely get two trailers, and many many TV spots. This film doesn’t come out for another 6 months. They might even hold the first trailer all the way until December and run it with Star Wars. That would be smart. You’d get a lot of eyes on it.
