We all agree it would be the dumbest idea ever. But between what the real Bond fans like us want to see (or not to see in this case) and what the global expectations seem to be nowadays, the gap is huge...
Take Nomi for instance: a badass female double 0 who has been replacing Bond after his retirement. I suspect the character of being an attempt to satisfy the SJW community. Let’s be clear: I have no problem at all with such characters in the franchise if their use is relevant and contributes to the plot development but I just hope EON keep in mind the audience is supposed to identify with Bond himself and nobody else. NTTD is a James Bond film, not a Nomi film...
To be honest, since the Star Wars sequels nightmare, I’m afraid of such a doom for my all-time favorite character
Great point about what the general audience want and what the Bond audience want. They do merge though with members of the public sharing many of the Bond audience's expectations.
Bond is a right wing franchise. Guns, action, cars, girls. People don't want to see it hijacked by the SJW brigade. None of the core audience liked Dark Fate and it lost money. The women I know are all happy to see Bond carry on as normal. The female gaze is all part of it and you don't see men complaining. How many women watch these films to lust over Bond himself.
Make him black if the best actor is black but don't do it for the sake of it. Felix and Moneypenny are well cast and and show that the franchise is already colour blind.
Craig seems to be part of the problem though if you look at what he says in interviews. Trump and Brexit are in his sights now. There's no need for any of that. Everyone has had enough of being told how to vote and deserves their escapism.
Lashana Lynch's favourite Bond girl? She claims that it's Grace Jones. Fair enough, but I wonder how many Bond films she's actually seen.
I think it's making things too political to call James Bond a right wing franchise. Most action franchises have guns, actions, cars and girls. So are they all right wing? I know of a series of secret agent movies based on a series of novels written by a communist, and the books and films have those elements. Yes, Ian Fleming was a conservative man, but I'm willing to bet there were many Labour voters among the people who made and are making the Bond movies. To me the films are about enterainment and wish fulfilment, not politics.
I just can't get my head around why politics is constantly brought into everything. Bond is fiction. When I'm watching a film, or playing a video game, or anything like that, politics don't enter my mind. It's just not relevent. If I wanted politics I would watch a political debate.
Trump and Brexit are in his sights now. There's no need for any of that. Everyone has had enough of being told how to vote and deserves their escapism.
Exactly. I don't even engage with politics and I'm still sick of hearing about it, this world is way too dark so let's have some escapism every now and then
I know this has been said and discussed before, but one thing that has changed is that in the past the objective was to make a cracking, entertaining, escapism, romp of a James Bond film and make a few quid with it. The films unashamedly and confidently had their own place in the world of movie making. You knew what to expect with every James Bond film and most of the time, you would leave the cinema very happy. Occasionally they would go deeper and more serious and sometimes too silly and unbelievable, but it worked in balance.
The emphasis now seems to have shifted somewhat to create Bond films that are emotionally deeper, darker, heavier, critically acclaimed, that will appeal to a much broader audience. They are still good and engaging films but I would argue they're not as fun and enjoyable to watch as in the past. SP was and NTTD will be (from what I've seen and read) quite a heavy, emotionally driven piece of drama. I'm not saying I won't enjoy it and it will still be Bond and I am so excited to see it, but I'm worried where and what they are going to lead me to and expect me to accept as canon, in an attempt to create emotional impact, shock, and tick some boxes they didn't need to, or worry about in the past.
The 'drama' of Bond/Swann, the emotional baggage and (quite possibly) unhappy ending to DC's Pentalogy, may ultimately dull my overall enjoyment and satisfaction. However, the trailer does show great locations, stunts, sequences and scenes so I'm really in two minds at the moment.
Agreed. It might end up being the best film in the series - who knows. But even if that’s the case, I don’t want them to keep making this type of Bond film. I think the Mission Impossible franchise has been making better Bond films than EON for a while now. All the more remarkable given that they lack the best asset at EON’s disposal: JAMES BOND.

yeah pretty much. I'm not really a fan of the Craig continuous arc and it'd the 'drama' implied in NTTD is kinda dragging it down for me.
I think you can have a well-crafted Bond film (with emotional depth, dramatic stakes & pathos) and still make a blistering, fun, cracker of a Bond adventure. From Russia with Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, For Your Eyes Only, The Living Daylights, GoldenEye, Casino Royale and Skyfall all spring to mind in that category. You don't have to one without the other. It is when they lean hard on either being too silly or too serious that the films run into problems.
Twitter account Springhousese has posted a translation of a Polish magazine article about NTTD. It has various small spoilers that have already been reported here. The new interesting bits are;
It confirms the Matera DB5 can drop landmines.
It reveals that the second car chase takes place in Norway. So, the SUV chase where Bond becomes separated from Madeleine and left behind as the helicopter flies away is in Norway, suggesting that Bond and Madeleine were going back to her cottage, or had been there.
Safin's family is Russian and he confirms Safin goes to Madeleine's cottage/villa in the PTS.
There are some minor details about the Cuba sequence and the scientist Obruchev. It also explains that they wanted to film in Havana but the authorities wanted too much control, so they simply recreated bits of Havana at Pinewood.
It reveals that Q is out in the field and has with him a mini mobile laboratory. As we don't see Q until after Cuba and he wouldn't need a mobile lab in London for whatever Obruchev is carrying and we appear to see Q on the plane that launches the glider, I can only assume that Q reappears at the military transport plane airfield that Nomi takes Bond too after the SUV chase and Q uses the mini lab then.
It reveals that there are a lot of gadgets in this movie. Q gives Bond a gadget called a Qadar, which I guess is some special RADAR. The film also has high-tech handcuffs (for Blofeld?), a harpoon Bond uses and a machine that injects smart blood into Bond's veins. Maybe the journalist made a mistake there and that is a prop from Spectre or maybe Bond is injected before he gets in the glider?
It will be interesting to see if the 'harpoon' is simply Bond's spear gun, a new weapon altogether, or the unused harpoon prop from SP. Sounds like Obruchev has his own grappling gun too. Q will drink tea while on the move.
Always have an escape plan. Mine is watching James Bond films.

Any mention about Q's cats?
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope
I've been wondering if Safin is Dr No, what does that mean for the plot?
What we know of Safin is that his family is Russian and Safin is a Russian family name. This flies in the face of Dr No's half-German, half-Chinese heritage, and Chinese Triad history along with a great knowledge of atomic power.
However, No has his heart on the right hand side of his body and in the Norway PTS pictures we see a neat bullet hole in Safin's jacket where his heart would be and he's still standing. And Safin maybe a scientist of sorts, with his genetic technology. He tells Bond in the trailers that he has made Bond redundant as his skills will be passed on, long after his body has gone. That could be cloning and in the TV spots we see what looks like bodies growing in transparent VATS.
Are DC's movies prequels to Connery's or is it a complete reboot with new versions of past characters; Christoph Walz's Blofled could be said to be that but other actors have played Blofled before and they weren't called reboots.
Does Safin have a nom de guerre that is Dr No, and we're getting a half-Russian, half-Chinese genetic, not nuclear, scientist reboot?
If DC's films are prequels, are we're about to see someone whose skills will be transferred from Safin to Dr No? So, Bond could be at the 'birth' of Dr No, but not know him when Connery's Bond finds Dr No. The problem with this is that Connery's Bond doesn't know what Spectre is.
I've always assumed that the Craig films exist in a separate, self-contained continuity. The character of Bond and his motivations are too different in his films compared to others.

Craig is certainly in his own continuity. I believe it was Martin Campbell who said they were starting fresh as if there was nothing done before. There's no way Craig's continuity could be connected to the others. The other Bonds could be loosely connected, with Lazenby reminiscing over Connery's missions, Moore visiting Lazenby's wife's grave, Dalton and Brosnan remembering when Lazenby's Bond were married. GoldenEye starts in 1986 before Dalton was Bond, and that could connect the two of them, but that's more of a joke acknowledging when Brosnan was first hired as Bond. All the other Bonds can fit together, but Craig's Bond cannot.

Never really was a big fan of the new Q so this news kinda has me bummed. But I am excited to see exactly how the Qadar works. Perhaps it locates the nanomachines in Bond and Nomi's bodies, allowing them to always have a tab on each other during their raid on Safin's lair. Or perhaps it detects enemies? Very interested to hear about this gadget, especially with the reintroduction of the Smart Blood and how that ties into certain...theories I have about Spectre and NTTD.
Also excited to hear more about Valdo and Safin. Seems like Valdo isn't only a purely hapless scientist in need of rescuing.

Totally agree with Craigs Bond not being prequels. I'd like to see how they'd explain Moneypenny and Felix Leiter.

Technically there's no debate here. When they made Casino Royale they said they were starting fresh. I think people like to come up with other ideas for their own amusement. Just like the codename theory, which makes no sense. Occam's razor says all these theories are wrong. It's cool to come up with 'what ifs', but nobody who isn't making Bond films can change the reality.
They made Blofeld Bond's foster brother. Anything is possible.
Blofeld wasn't Bond's foster brother until they made him into that. Until something is retconned, the old truth still stands.
And Blofeld of the older films is not Bond's foster brother. What has happened in Craig's films has not changed the old films, only Craig's films. Until they say otherwise, any other scenarios are fan fiction.
I wonder if that burnt thing to Q's left is the remains of something from the chemical weapons lab attack?
I didn't think about that but it could very well be a possibility. From the other photos we've seen in Q's lab, he seems to wear a completely different outfit

Yeah, I've been wondering that too. What could the burnt drive mean? As well as the chess set? Judging from the pillar on the right this appears to potentially be the lab we've seen in earlier shots, however the hair and attire look completely different from anything we've already seen.
Another thing: there seems to be a LOT of Q-centric promotional material for NTTD.
