James Bond Wardrobe - 006's collection

Hi all,

Well I was doing a stock take of all my suits/ties/jackets and other pieces in the wardrobe, and have put together a compilation of the various outfits from my collection. Now some of these include screen accurate details and some alternatives, and in some cases using the same suit (many times) to create other outfits from the films. I will caveat that this is according to my interpretation, and I know there will be some purists questioning some of the items, which I totally understand. I will be adding my own comments and stories about the acquisition of these items.

I will be referencing from Matt Spaiser’s brilliant website bondsuits.com, and where possible will add links to the outfits.
Additionally I will be adding links to items where available.

I would strongly suggest that you visit my previous two posts on the ties of James Bond, and the Jackets of James Bond (DC era).
This is going to be a long post, so take your time, have a drink, and enjoy the story.

So I was fortunate to get my hands on the limited edition Slazenger v-neck sweater from Mason & Sons, and it is a great sweater. I have added in the Sunspel grey melange polo shirt as an alternative to the original Slazenger version. The trousers are a charcoal trouser from Next, it isn’t screen accurate, but does provide a completed look to this outfit. This is staple weekend wear for me, and has a timeless look.

I recently received the Goldfinger Hacking Jacket and Cavalry twill trousers and I am beyond delighted. The jacket is very comfortable and is very warm, definitely an autum / winter staple. The trousers are slightly heavier than a suit trouser, but they also keep you warm. Whilst there are questions about the screen accuracy of the jacket and trousers, the overall outfit is very stylish and exudes the essence of the original outfit. I can't thank enough Elliot and David Mason for re creating a fantastic outfit that I will wear for both formal and informal occasions. I have paired the jacket and trousers with the Anthony Sinclair mid brown tie and the Francis and Deakin Cufflinks, I would wear the Church's Ryder 3 chukka boots to complete the outfit.

First of all the feel of the polo and sweater is amazing, and is becoming a staple for weekend wear in the transition from autumn to winter. I have paired this with a pair of dark charcoal trousers and I could pair this with very formal shoes or trainers, it is that versatile. This same look can be created on a budget, but the feel of this cashmere is unbelievable.

I visited David Mason soon after the Barbican event marking 50 years of James Bond style, I initially wanted to get my catalogue signed which he and Richard Payne who was an apprentice with Anthony Sinclair and cutting patterns for Sean Connery’s suits did autograph. At which point David asked if I wanted the same suit for myself, and he used the same material as seen on the mannequin at the Bond 50 exhibition, I even suspect that Richard also worked on my suit. I am guilty of having belt loops on the suit and I do regret it, however the suit is a perfect spring/summer suit, and whilst the 60’s vibe is evident, it has a contemporary feel.

Another great piece from NPeal, whilst I do have the Spectre mock turtleneck sweater, this is a proper turtleneck, and it is very luxurious. This is such a timeless classic that can be worn formally and casually. I have paired this with dark charcoal trousers, but you can wear this with dark jeans as well as a suit jacket.

All Saints Iggy Chocolate brown cords – No longer available

https://www.bondsuits.com/quilted-gilet-for-your-eyes-only/

This has been a holy grail to get, and NPeal have really knocked it out of the park with this great combo. I have used a dark navy blue shirt from Marks and Spencer, as well as the All Saints Iggy bitter chocolate brown cords. The sweater is very chunky, and is probably the thickest of all the sweaters from the NPeal range. The gilet / waistcoat is very comfy, and the pockets are convenient and you can put a lot in them. I might pair this outfit with the Crockett and Jones Islay boots, I haven’t ventured climbing in this outfit, but it is a great piece to wear on country walks.

https://www.bondsuits.com/leather-car-coat-living-daylights/

This is by far my absolute favourite sweater from the NPeal Bond collection, it is a heavy sweater but it is really insulating and another classic piece. I have used a beige shirt, and paired with dark charcoal trousers. If there was ever one piece to get from the collection, this would be it. I have worn this sweater a lot, and is becoming my go to sweater, it is very versatile and can work with a wide pallet of coloured shirts, or on its own.

Tom Ford Beige Harrington – No longer available

https://www.bondsuits.com/beige-blouson-living-daylights/

I was initially sceptical about the 5 button polo, but this is an amazing polo, and a great autumn / spring wear. The cut / fit and material have really updated an 80’s classic into a contemporary item that will be timeless. I have used the Sta Prest 307’s to emulate the beige trousers that Timothy Dalton wears. For an added look, I have used the beige Tom Ford Harrington that was created for Daniel Craig for QoS to get that look. I would use the Crockett and Jones Islay boots, or the Church’s Ryder III to go with this outfit.

Another classic sweater which I have worn a lot since I purchased it. I have used a navy blue shirt, and the sta prest 307 beige jeans to emulate the promotional photo in which Pierce Brosnan wore beige / khaki trousers (which were not visible in the film). I would also add the Crockett and Jones Islay boots as an alternative to the brown brogue shoes that was visible in the promotional photos. I really like this outfit (minus the cravat), and I have worn this in the office and for casual events.

I bought this suit from TM Lewin almost 12 years ago, it was probably one of the first suits I bought, and it is off the shelf. However I was going through my wardrobe and experimented with a blue shirt and the Turnbull and Asser tie. It is not screen accurate, but it is a solid alternative.

I recently bought the Spectre Rome suit a few months ago, and when I was going through my wardrobe I thought to see how the tie from The World Is Not Enough would look using this suit. I actually think it looks good and adds colour to this suit.

Again using the TM Lewin suit, I experimented with the blue shirt and the Die Another Day Turnbull and Asser tie. I acknowledge that this is not screen accurate, however it does make a good alternative.
The TM Lewin suit was a Piccadilly style suit and this fabric and suit cut is no longer available.

This is such an iconic and comfortable sweater, and definitely a piece that can be worn from late autumn through until early spring. I have worn this sweater quite regularly and either have a t-shirt or polo shirt underneath depending on the weather. Like all of the NPeal collection these are very high quality items and have a great design.

This is a great summer outfit, the polo shirt and chino look is timeless. These chinos were on sale from Ted Baker a few years ago and are tapered than the screen accurate version.

I will talk more about the Tom Ford navy blue suit, however I used this suit and with an interesting self-stripe shirt from Hawes and Curtis and paired it with the St Dupont cufflinks along with a similar burgundy tie that was reissued from Brioni albeit that the design features a square design that is slightly smaller than the original one. I think it works well, and is a good business outfit.

Experimenting a bit here, but I found from bondclothing's instagram page that the t-shirt used in this scene was from Sunspel in slate blue, which under certain lighting looks grey. I also added the Tom Ford McQueen cardigan and used the glen plaid suit trousers from the Goldfinger suit to complete this outfit.

This suit was the second Tom Ford suit that I had made, and probably the most used, it is a Regency cut and it is not quite the same fabric as on screen but a close alternative. The suit fabric is still available and if you are considering getting a navy blue suit, then this fabric should be one to consider.

I recently acquired the Adidas Y3 jacket from a fellow AJBer, and I have been looking for this jacket ever since QoS. The polo shirt is a dark navy Tom Ford polo, it is not the screen accurate version, but the colours match quite closely. The Levis 306/307 in Silver Birch are no longer available, however I was lucky to find a pair of 518's in the same colour. the 518 is slightly more tapered than the Sta Prest, but it completes the look nonetheless. To accessorize, I have added the Church's Ryder III, the Prada Saffiano belt, and the Omega Planet Ocean. This is a great outfit, although I haven't had a chance to wear this out in the wild, it is something that I would be wearing for spring / summer.

This outfit took a long time to complete, I just picked up a pair of the Levi 307 Sta Prest trousers. I purchased an original Tom Ford cardigan, however I felt it was slightly long and baggy, the new McQueen version fits really well. In addition, I have also got the Prada belt and Church’s Ryder 3 boots which make this outfit screen accurate.

This was my first Tom Ford suit and there is an interesting story behind it. I went to Tom Ford at Harrods and enquired about the fabric, this was a few years after the film and was informed that the fabric was no longer available. However the sales assistant took their time in searching through the fabrics and using Matt Spaiser’s article as a guide to find a similar match. He did find a match, however it was the undercloth of another fabric, the top fabric was a darker colour, but the undercloth was near identical. Before getting this order completed, I had to sign waivers so that Tom Ford would not be held responsible if the condition of the cloth was not correct. This was the first time that Tom Ford had actually used the undercloth as the main cloth of a suit. The head tailor told me that as soon as the suit was created he ordered it to be bought to his office and all the tailors were examining the suit. They even said to themselves that why this cloth was not part of the main collection. The tie was another hard find, and took many years of searching on ebay and other sites, I was lucky to obtain this and really makes this suit.

This is a favourite of mine, the jacket has been heavily sought after and was absolutely delighted when the Harrington project was successful. I picked up the polo shirt from Tom Ford a few years ago, it is not screen accurate, but it is a close alternative, I am hoping to update this with the next Tom Ford project. The mercer jeans were picked up several years ago, and through wash and wear have become less darker than the original indigo wash. Again I have added the Prada belt, and the Ryder 3 boots to complete this look.

This suit is beautiful, and I am disappointed that the fabric has now been discontinued, the colour of the tie really brings together the blue of the shirt and the grey of the suit. This is one of my absolute favourite suits from the entire series.
I have also got the top coat for this suit which can make the National Gallery outfit.

I bought the Barbour jacket a few weeks after it was identified, for me the jacket is bullet proof for autumn and winter weather and have worn this in storms and survived. I was able to get the Iggy cords from another AJBer and with the sweater really completes the outfit. Alas I don’t have the henly shirt, but I do use a long sleeve t-shirt as a base layer. I also have a Tom Ford brown cashmere scarf which completes the outfit.

After watching David Zaritsky's review of the Herringbone Track Stripe suit, I was very tempted to get this suit. It is very beautiful and the pattern in differing light can be dark charcoal, to a mid grey. It is incredibly versatile and can be worn with either blue or white shirts and a pallet of ties as well. I have worn this in business meetings and it has that nice pin stripe design which is both traditional and modern at the same time. For the M's office scene, I have added the Tom Ford Skyfall top coat as an alternative.

This was the last Tom Ford suit I have bought, and I have to say it looks more vibrant in real life. I am not the biggest fan of pinstripes, however this is a very good compromise and the herringbone pattern makes this black suit more interesting than any other black suit. I actually like this outfit and the textured black tie makes this so much more interesting. My tailor said that the herringbone pattern provides a trick of making you look taller, which I could really do with! In addition to the suit and tie, I have added the sunglasses and gloves to complete the look.

I cannot stop repeating myself when I say how lucky I was in getting this jacket, it is as beautiful and comfy as it looks. The whole combination with the NPeal jumper and Acne beanie hat really makes it very insulating. I do hope Neil Barrett will reissue the tick trouser, I have used an alternative charcoal coloured trouser from Next, however I would have thought that in colder climates you would want a more woollen trouser than a polyester heavy fabric. Still this jacket and jumper were very useful last winter.

This outfit is very versatile and is reminiscent of Timothy Dalton’s outfit in the Living Daylights. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the extreme v-neck polo, but I have used the same Tom Ford polo to use with this outfit. It is a shame that the jacket is no longer available as it is a really nice, lightweight jacket that can be worn comfortably for late summer weather.

http://www.bondsuits.com/bond-in-brown-brunello-cucinelli-in-spectre/

This is one of my absolute favourite suits, I was able to get this suit jacket on a made to measure from the Brunello Cucinelli Burlington Arcade store. I believe the fabric is still available, however I would insist on trying out a suit jacket first and getting the right measurements, I had an issue with the sleeves which have been resolved. I have worn this to weddings and have worn the Church’s Ryder 3 boots rather than the Kenton Sahara boots. I have also included the Tom Ford Henry’s which are a fantastic pair of sunglasses. With the recent heatwave, I have worn this suit combination a number of times to business meetings, also assists in surviving the London underground!

The only missing item from the suit is the belt, so if anyone wants to consider selling their’s (especially if it is a size 85 or 90) let me know!

I was able to get the first issue of this jacket from a fellow AJBer whom I am eternally grateful for, it is a nice jacket and very lightweight. I was watching the latest Mission Impossible film and I am convinced that this is the same jacket seen in that film, also a bit of a sartorial node with the charcoal turtleneck that Ethan Hunt wears with this jacket. Again I am using the Next charcoal trousers as an alternative to the Neil Barrett trousers. I haven’t purchased the Sanders and Sanders Playboy chukka boots (yet), I actually prefer the Ryder 3 boots as the dainite sole is a bit more durable.

I know this suit may not be a fan favourite, but I absolutely adore it. The suit fabric is described as anthracite (a dark grey), however when I was ordering the suit, the tailor showed that the colour is a dark midnight blue, almost black. Either way the pattern is interesting and it is a more sporty suit, but I have worn this to meetings and works well with the waistcoat and tie.

I was able to get the suit, shirt and tie for the suit, and am awaiting the braces from Mason and Sons to complete the outfit. The suit is a corduroy suit, but it is unlike any corduroy I have ever known, it is very soft and very light. The colour is a light sand and fits in well with a summer look, although it might get a little bit warm. The shirt is from Brunello Cucinelli in the right fabric, however, I have chosen not to go for the screen accurate version with the button down collars. For me the slim fit of this shirt was more practical for me, and I intend to wear this shirt in more formal occasion, nonetheless this is a very nice shirt. The avery tie is very lovely, and the light blue polka dots match with the colour of the shirt. I have tailored the trousers to enable braces, and am awaiting the dove grey braces to complete the outfit. I am not so keen on the suede loafers, and would probably wear the Church’s Ryder III. Overall this is an interesting suit, and I could see myself wearing this at summer events.

I recently received the Connolly London Giubbino Jacket, I know David Zaritsky has actually reviewed this, and gave a very thorough assessment. On first looking, this is a very nice jacket, and the cords allow you to taper the jacket or loosen as you choose. They pair well with the Massimo Alba winch trousers, which I have commented previously are like any other cord trouser I know. Personally I might wear a polo shirt with this outfit, and it is certainly one thing I will consider wearing for the summer.

This is a very nice jacket, although when I first received the jacket it was very rigid. The fit is very good, and the jacket requires a lot of wear to make it supple. I have used a white t-shirt, and an old 7forallmankind mercer jeans as an alternative.

Some other alternatives

Kingsman

0809.jpg
0810.jpg

Now just when you thought it was over, I did a bit of experimentation and put together Harry Hart’s suit from Kingsman using the Anthony Sinclair glen plaid check suit, with the tie and cufflinks from Mr Porter. Likewise you can use the Navy Tom Ford suit to recreate Egsy’s suit from the Kingsman series:

Kngsman Tie: https://www.mrporter.com/en-gb/mens/kingsman/--drake-s-8-5cm-striped-silk-and-cotton-blend-faille-tie/1064481?ppv=2

That brings a close (for now), however if I am able to include any further additions to the collection I will add it here.
I hope you have enjoyed the stories and felt inspired to develop your own collection.

Thank you for sharing this! Magnificent collection. I appreciate that you actually wear these clothes in your day-to-day life and that, in many cases, you're comfortable going with a "good enough" alternative, rather than insisting that every item be the screen-used brand. To me that's the crucial difference between Bond cosplay and using the films as inspiration to shape your own personal style.

    Hey everyone,

Just to say a massive thanks for all of your kind and very appreciative comments, it means a lot especially from the elite Bond aficionados. This collection is a reflection of ten years of collecting, and I couldn't have done it without the AJB forum members and Matt Spaiser's website.

In terms of the TF Skyfall Prince of Wales suit, lets just say that I have appealed to the head TF tailor in person, but his decision is final - c'est la vie :-(

Whilst screen accuracy is an element. For me, Bond has been an influencer and I have added some twists that suit (pun intended) my style, so I have double vent suit jackets and pleated trousers (especially forward pleats). However above everything else, and I am quoting David Zaritsky here, is comfort. Taking the Tom Ford polo shirt in Spectre, regardless of expense, with the deep v-neck is too much for me, and a Sunspel polo shirt is equally acceptable (and more affordable).

Anyway, should there be any further additions to the collection I will add it here, and I hope I have inspired you and your own collections.

    Hello guys.

Having seen some videos from MI-6 on Youtube, I'm not sure TC wears the JV Suede jacket. I can't see any zippers on his cuffs in those rehearsal videos !!!
Maybe the jacket was altered by Costume Dept....

I’m pretty certain he doesn’t wear the SP mode JV (missing some zips and noticeable stitching), however it does look very very similar—plus with the turtleneck as well, I’d say the inspiration from Bond was definitely there.

    Edit...I’m wrong :007)

timiblade posted this picture over on filmjackets that shows the zippers were removed by the MI: Fallout costume department.

Just got out my JV and compared it with MI pics and I was definitely misremembering the jacket. I thought the horizontal stitching above the pockets was a whiteish colour for some reason...shows how much my JV gets worn (unfortunately) in the tropical area I live. So, I’ll change my statement to I’m pretty sure he does wear it—just with the zips removed for some reason.

Timiblade explained that it was for safety purposes they removed all the zippers on the jacket. Not only this one but all jackets TC wears on his movies.
As he makes a lot of stunts by himself, they remove the zippers to avoid that he hurts himself.

Funny without realising I was wearing that MI look yesterday even down to the navy blue roll neck and black trousers weird. Of course my JV mit zips :D

Better not tell the long haired general she will think I, that I think I am Tom Cruise as well as DC :D

    Cheers :007)

    Merry Christmas AJBers!

I hope you all managed to get some great presents!

With the Christmas break I have updated the wardrobe page with an entry for the Goldfinger Hacking Jacket and Cavalry Twill trousers from Mason & Sons (as above). I was going to create another topic page for the accessories I have collected, instead I have added it to this section.

Like my previous posts, this will be a long(ish) read, so take your time and enjoy.

    Scarves

All of the scarves features are from the DC era of movies.

    1085.jpg

So, let’s get into the details

    Quantum Of Solace

    Kazan Scarf

    Quantum-of-Solace-Kazan-Outerwear-3.jpg

    https://www.bondsuits.com/outerwear-in-kazan-a-black-greatcoat-in-quantum-of-solace/

I managed to receive this Tom Ford scarf from a very generous AJBer, this is the same make and model scarf as featured in QoS. It has a brown plaid pattern in silk on one side with a cashmere lining on the other. The contrast between the layers mean that it is both a luxurious and practical scarf.

    Skyfall-Barbour-Jacket-2-640x301.jpg

    https://www.bondsuits.com/the-barbour-jacket-skyfall/

This brown Tom Ford cashmere scarf was first identified by Simon Ruzgar. I bought this scarf from the Tom Ford boutique in London, and whilst it might be a shade lighter than the one in the film, it is very versatile. Whenever I wear the Barbour To Ki To jacket, I usually wear a scarf as the leather collar can be a little uncomfortable. Overall this is a fantastic lightweight but insulating scarf.

    Navy-Topcoat-2-1024x424.jpg

    https://www.bondsuits.com/navy-topcoat/

I was very fortunate to get this Johnston of Elgin mid grey scarf. Much like all the other cashmere scarfs, this is very comfortable and fits with the Tom Ford topcoat. Again, this is a favourite of mine and is very practical. The only downside is the length, it could be a little longer, still it does the job.

    Spectre

    Q Lab Scarf

https://www.marksandspencer.com/pure-cashmere-scarf/p/p60172499 in dark navy (currently sold out)

I initially thought this scarf was from Johnston & Elgin, but thanks to Simon Ruzgar and Thomas Harris, the scarf is actually from Marks and Spencer’s. This is a very prudent and affordable scarf that can be worn with any coat or jacket. It has a good length which allows you to tie the scarf in a number of ways. The scarf is currently out of stock, but it is a regular feature of Marks and Spencer's cashmere collection.

    Cufflinks

My cufflink collection includes some screen accurate pieces and frugal replicas.

Mason & Sons Deakin Francis X Sinclair cufflinks - https://www.masonandsons.com/products/deakin-francis-cufflinks-engine-turned-rose-gold

I recently obtained the Deakin & Francis x Sinclair engine-turned cufflinks from Mason & Sons. These cufflinks are the first thing you see of James Bond when he is playing baccarat in Dr No, and you see it again in Goldfinger. These cufflinks are versatile and very timelessly stylish and are still available at Mason & Sons. I personally love these cufflinks and have worn these on many formal occasions

    http://www.jamesbondlifestyle.com/product/georg-jensen-88-cufflinks-world-not-enough

The Georg Jensen 88 cufflinks were recently identified on James Bond Lifestyle. These cufflinks are solid silver and are very distinctive. They are very sculptural, and they can get caught on the sleeve opening of suit jackets. However, they are a very nice piece and will go with a blue or white shirt.

    http://www.jamesbondlifestyle.com/product/st-dupont-5174-cufflinks

I have had these cufflinks for a number of years and was lucky to get a white self stripe shirt from Hawes and Curtis that is similar to the shirt that DC wears in this scene. This like all the other cufflinks work well with a nice dress shirt and suit.

Hotel Splendide – St Dupont 5172

    http://www.jamesbondlifestyle.com/product/st-dupont-5172-cufflinks

These are my go to cufflinks and they go with any colour or patterned shirt. These cufflinks were also featured in Quantum Of Solace which make them versatile.

    Casino – St Dupont 5244

    ac014-st-dupont-5244-casino-royale-table.jpg

    http://www.jamesbondlifestyle.com/product/st-dupont-5244-casino-royale-cufflinks

These cufflinks are the holy grail from all of the DC series. I was very fortunate to obtain a pair from another AJBer. The “coffin” design is quite striking and the contrast between the matt and polish elements of the cufflinks give it that sparkle. I have a bespoke Turnbull and Asser casino shirt which matches the cufflinks perfectly!

    Skyfall

    Tom Ford Istanbul Cufflinks

    https://www.tomford.com/striped-t-cufflinks/JM0093U-G18KW.html?cgid=accessories-mens&dwvar_JM0093U-G18KW_color=WGO

These cufflinks are still available from the Tom Ford store, however they are very, very, very expensive!! My alternative cufflinks are from Hawes and Curtis and whilst it has a t-clasp, it does the trick. I have worn this with a white shirt and the Tom Ford Istanbul suit and tie and Crockett and Jones Tetbury’s which really complete the look.

Tom Ford Orbis Non Sufficit Cufflinks

    1121.jpg

    cl049-tom-ford-cufflinks-orbis-non-sufficit.jpg

    http://www.jamesbondlifestyle.com/product/tom-ford-orbis-non-sufficit-cufflinks

I wasn’t able to afford the genuine cufflinks, although I do hope that Tom Ford would consider doing a reissue. Instead I obtained these replica cufflinks from Hart008 who was brilliant in perfecting the design and manufacturing these cufflinks. The details didn’t end at the cufflinks but the fabulous presentation box and certificate that came with the cufflinks. These were a very limited run of 50 pieces, but they are beautiful.

    Spectre

    Silver JB cufflinks

    1120.jpg

    https://onlineonly.christies.com/s/james-bond-spectre-online-sale/james-bonds-initialled-jb-tom-ford-cufflinks-worn-daniel-craig-15/25139

Like the other Tom Ford featured cufflinks, these were unobtainable and probably extremely expensive. These alternative cufflinks come from AJBer Hart008 who went all out to make a very nice pair of silver / mother of pearl effect cufflinks with the engraved JB. I absolutely love these cufflinks and have worn these with the Turnbull and Asser casino shirt.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this update and will be sure to add more additions to this page.

Awesome collection/wardrobe. I don't actually own a full head to toe Bond outfit but I have a few mockups. I have the matchless jacket/orlebar brown shirt so I found a pair of pants/shoes that are very close to the actual thing. The CR Polo outfit is an easy one to do with the Sunspel Polo. I plan on getting a cocktail cuff shirt and a grenadine tie so I'll be able to pair that with my Navy suit for a mock Connery look.

Many of the Bond clothes are impractical for me due to the weather around here but it has been getting surprisingly cold lately but that'll be temporary. I'm envious of the suits though. Hopefully, I can expand that side of my collection in the coming years.
