Loake Trappers

I haven't found much on the forum about the first pair of shoes we see worn by Daniel Craig's Bond. The Loake Trappers are the chukkas he wears in the bathroom fight scene in Casino Royale. I've also read conjectures that they're the boots he wears with the Sunspel polo in the return to the Bahamas scene.

I'm looking for general impressions by those who have owned them on sizing, durability, etc. The shape with the slightly squared toe is unusual — reminds me of the Tetbury. Are the reissues the same color as the originals?

I absolutely love mine. I was given them this year as a Fathers' Day present. Fit is true to size, in my opinion. They look as though a pair of Crocket & Jones and a pair of J Crew Kentons had a wild weekend in Vegas. They feel more like Moltons in that they are, initially at least, quite rigid, but they soften up nicely. For the money, they are exceptionally well made, and a bit of a bargain, in my book!

Bond44, how do the Trappers fit compared to the Kemptons? I love my Kemptons and they fit great, but my Loake Pimlicos are a bit snug across the vamp.

My Kemptons last twice as long as my Church’s in both looks and wear. I’ve had two pairs of Ryder’s now and the heels have fallen off both pairs. My Kemptons are taking an age to wear down. Loake are very very good shoes for the price.

How are you able to get your Loake shows statestide? I was looking online and i found the Trappers at herringshoes but it said that they cannot ship to the US because Loake will not allow it :#

Interesting I have Trappers, Kemptons Light Brown and Pimlicos Dark Brown.

The Trappers and Kemptons very similar obviously the toe shape is different but size wise they are both the same.

To me the Pimlico wear a little broader and bigger only slightly so and no enough to size up.

    But maybe that’s just me.

My Kemptons last me for years I practically live in them and usually get a resole every 18 months. Last time though they failed quality control so they very kindly ‘looked after me’ as a valued customer. I also get military discount on new purchases so I love cannot complain :D

I lucked out and got them through a combination of ebay and Pediwear. Pediwear no longer ships Loake to the US but did up to last year.

That is a good price Herring Shoes has on the Trappers. Btw, their Herring Gosforth II chukkas are rebranded Kemptons, which will ship to the US.

    Thanks, Bond44.

The heels on one of my pair of Kemptons need replacing. Been putting off mailing them to one of two shoe repair shops in the US that have Dainite.

Interesting how different the boots fit different people.

That is funny, I was looking at the Kemptons yesterday as an extra pair of chukkas to go along with my Ryders. Hearing that they will last even longer is great news as my Ryders are my favourite shoes by far! Not wanting to wear them more then two days in a row (should be one day, but like I said, I really like them) an extra pair would be nice.

Bond44, are those in cigar brown (slightly darker, and from what I can find only available as rebranded Herring shoes) or their normal brown suede?

Sorry cannot say I only deal direct with Loake. Below are Loake Pimlico left and Kemptons right. I think the Ryder’s sit somewhere in between colour wise.

    Hope this helps

    hello all

I just want to join you guys on praising the Loake and the Herring shoes. I have the Kemptons in black and the Gosforth in suede. The Herring Liffords, IMHO are closer to the trappers:

    https://www.herringshoes.co.uk/herring/ilford_rubber-soled-chukka-boots/oiled-suede

I did screw up with the sizing and got me the Herrings in size 7.5 and they are slightly larger, despite this, they are very comfortable and I like them very much. The Kemptons in 7 are glove perfect feel. I am glad I did not obsess over the Ryder III after reading your comments on them.

    Regards

Loake has placed an export restriction on all of their shoes going to North America (US and Canada), as well as Australia and Asia, IIRC. This has been in effect for at least a year or more. That's left anyone in the States looking for a pair from a non-retailer, or via eBay or a second-hand market. Not great options to say the least.

As for sizing, I find the Trappers run a tad big, or wide to be more specific. They only come in G Width, so it's recommended to anyone with narrow feet to size down 1/2 size. But even with that, the fit just isn't right. I need a shoe in a D or Medium Width. The pair I own are the Trapper Caligula, which was the model being made around the time of "Casino Royale." They have a fleur-de-lis/palm print design on the interior lining and a sewn-in black label on the insole that reads "designLoake." They were released with a "pre-distressing" which gives them an instant worn-in look. I don't own the newer release of this boot, so I'm not sure if these characteristics are featured on the new boot or not.

I'll add that I'm looking to sell my pair since they don't fit. They're a size 8UK, and I'm asking $100. I paid $150 with the hopes they'd fit, so just looking to offload them now at a loss. You can see pics and details of them in this thread - https://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/47040/fs-dcera-bond-items-churchs-tf-polo-loake-thomas-pink-tf-tie/

    Hope this info helps.

    Kind regards,

For anyone interested in a pair of the Loake Trappers they have them in their factory outlet shop website, not sure if this is UK delivery only.

Unfortunately the factory shop does not ship them outside the UK, at least not to Germany.
But if anyone from the UK orders a pair and would like to order a second one for me and forward them, I would be very happy.

My experience was also that I’d wear about a half size smaller than Churchs, and maybe in Crockett Jones. But I only have one pair of Loakes.
