Antique Roadshow

One to look out for if you can. On last night's Antique Roadshow on BBC1 they had a Bond collector on. One of the items he had was a screen used Armani leather jacket from Casino Royale. It was valued at between £3,000 - £5,000. I thought it might be worth more than that. He also had one of the Pierce Brosnan era Omega watches.
Yes. Considerably!

I hope he has some sort of provenance to show the watch and jacket were screen used. I did like the editing equipment used by Peter Hunt.

Thanks for posting this as i couldn't find anything online about it this morning!

I would sure hope that this gentleman has something to prove the authenticity of these items. He was clearly shocked as i was when he was advised that the Brosnan Seamaster was worth between £15,000 and £20,000! I think that the estimate is a little high and they definitely low balled the value of the Armani Jacket especially when there are so few of them that have turned up.

Thanks for sharing Westward Drift. £5,000 for a screen used DC Armani jacket? Can’t believe it’s not worth more. Looks in remarkably good condition for a SA jacket.
    I'm sorry......that last hand...nearly killed me

He would only have to prove authenticity if he was trying to sell them.

Would Antiques Roadshow be the type to tell this man to say the items were screen-used when they aren't, for entertainment value?

Hmm I didn’t really think it was made 100% clear if it was screen used or just the same jacket / model. Quite easy to misinterpret - was strange how they never really asked how he got them also considering they do for everything else.

Was a surprise though to see the Armani. Guess the guy having Hunts gear could be ex EON worker? Maybe some others here who worked on the brozzer films can chime in.

Sounds like that was on purpose.

I saw this, and I thought that the price for the jacket was on the low side.
I also understood that the watch, was the actual watch that was given to Q, and was also a screen worn item.
However on neither item did they seem to show any proof of this, also I cant remember Q, having ever worn a seamaster, but I can remember a watch belong to DL (Q) on the Chrono24 website about 18 months ago.

AJB'ers know Bond props and Bond props pricing far better than a Roadshow advisor or an auction house.

What is provenance? Do we expect a COA to say, "authentically stolen from a movie set"?

Forgery tends toward autographs mostly, IMHO. The best provenance to me is two parts: trust/vibe/story of the seller and examining for screen accuracy. It's hard to imagine someone buying an expensive watch or jacket for $5,000 U.S. and "adding value" to it by claiming screen-used. It's equally hard to imagine people forging props and selling them for $30 on eBay. There are good items out there on both the high and low price ends.

Thanks for posting, especially the u-tubby :D

Never heard of him - Mark Hill - But there are many collectors.

Agree the jacket is low-balled. These were very sought after as jackets and sruzgar correct me if I’m wrong, but mega rare? So £3-5k is probably its worth as a jacket alone. If he could “persuade” it was worn or made for CR then you can treble that at least.

As to the watch, personally I think that’s high-balled. Many have similar watches from the Brosnan era and I’d think that’s about half the AR guy’s estimate.

But watches are odd things - they bring out the mental in people, and the fraternity is full of oddballs, some of which are known to wander these halls.. :D
