Double 0 Mission Briefing

The Bond Vivant

I reckon there should be a mission briefing in Bond 25, with all the Double 0's in attendance- They could include all of the actors who have been proposed as Bond in the past, including Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston, Damian Lewis and Michael Fassbender. Thoughts?

I think that would be very funny, but very distracting from the film. It could make an excellent comedy sketch. But it would be nice as it would put to bed rumours of these men becoming James Bond.

Having those many actors in one shot and then most not appearing again might confuse some. All those actors have had major roles and are very noticeable. Some might complain that Idris Elba or Tom Hiddelston didn't have a bigger role. I really don't want to read those complaints. Plus, one of them may still be up for the role after Craig leaves.

People don't usually complain about cameos.

Of those, Tom Hiddleston is the only one that could have a chance at getting Bond after Craig. But I think they will go for someone in their 30s again when casting the next Bond, which rules out all of them, who will be in their 40s or 50s when Bond is next cast.

Ii would be funny, but I don't think that sort of thing would fit Daniel Craig's Bond. It could be helpful stopping casting rumours about those actors, only belivers in the code name theory will still think those actors can be Bond after a scene like that. Unfortunately thise very people will be even more sure one of those actors is the next 007 and their favourite gets the role after such a cameo.

I would very much like to see a 00- briefing, though.

When Mendes said that in his mind 009 (the intended owner of the DB10) in Spectre was being played by Damian Lewis, I must admit I can’t help but see him in my mind’s eye when I watch it!

I want a mission briefing scene like in the old days. M hands Bond the dossier while uttering the operation name; Bond opens the folder and looks over various documents, profiles, photos etc. before being on his way. Seeing other 00's would be most welcome. Showing all the proposed actors for Bond might be 'fun', but that doesn't make it a good idea. )

Any actors that you've see over the years that would make good Double 0's for the briefing? Just been watching Strike Back Silent War, and I thought that Jamie Bamber would be good. And Alec Newman played a Bond-esque character, Richard Dempsey, in Spooks a while back, too (His final shot at the end of the Spooks episode was very Dalton v Pushkin in TLD).

I believe this was the original idea for Thunderball, but with the actors from rival spy franchises as the other agents receiving the same mission

the only citation I can find is TVTropes, which is probably not completely reliable, but this is what they say:

The scene where Bond arrives for his mission briefing with the other 00 agents was originally going to have cameos from the stars of other spy shows and films - Patrick Macnee as John Steed, Roger Moore as Simon Templar, Michael Caine as Harry Palmer, Robert Vaughn and David McCallum as Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin, James Coburn as Derek Flint, Robert Culp and Bill Cosby as Kelly Robinson and Alexander "Scotty" Scott etc. Due to budgetary and logistics concerns, this was scrapped.

any truth to this? given all the evolutionary stages of Thunderball, anything is possible, but this list of names is pretty contemporary to the film's release.

they should have a couple women:
Gillian Anderson's name was rumoured at one point for some reason, and Charlize Theron oughta have been.

I’ve never heard of that but it sounds pretty far-fetched. Not really in the style of the Bond films then either.

Bond films remain in their own reality, universe, etc and of course are reflective of the times. Any kind of stunt casting or crossing over into other franchises, would not fit Bond. That being said, a meeting/briefing with other 00's is always welcome if it makes sense in the story. With what little we know of the plot of Bond 25, I have no idea if that would make any sense or not.
