Goldfinger/Thunderball SFX Aston Martin DB5 hits the Sotheby's auction block:

It's got the wrong stunt Mauser pistol though! :D

    I believe this is one of the two Thunderball road (or TOUR) cars originally sold through RM Auctions for £2.6 million. As the new AML DB5 replicas are going for £3 million a pop? it will be interesting to see what this achieves :D

    Hate to sound like sour grapes....
    But...
    Console switches are not even close to the original. Doesn't anyone read "The Most Famous...World?"
    Even a simple screen shot of the GF DB5 shows the correct switches. Not hard to get right!
    Number plate holder looks a bit large, although this one is the best repro I have seen. Some are just huge and clumsy. The original was beautifully formed, and quite small.
    Machine guns are not in the centre of the holes, where they should be.
    Bond's car had Dunlop tyres.
    Why not fit the Lucas L773 amber side repeater lamps? For a million quid car, these details are relatively cheap to do.
    Engine looks great, professional rebuild to 4.2L.
    Glad they didn't tart it up with modern electrics.
    Radar screen controls look different, as does the cover. There should be no ash tray on the tunnel cover.
    Leather looks a bit flat too. Spinneybeck has the correct leather in their Derby line.
    Hate to go on...but the Silver Birch should have a green tinge to it, this silver looks to, well, silver.
    Ok, that's t.
    Wish I could bid on it...

    Both of the GF cars had different centre consuls, as Donk stated above, this is one of the TB cars ! so your argument is mute -{

    Curious post as it is pretty well known that the specification of the tour cars differed from the screen examples. Remember the gadgets were remastered/engineered for constant daily use, not just a matter of a few seconds of screen time and the auction car has had a full refit including all 13 of the Aston Martin Lagonda fitted extras! All this does appear in Dave Worrall's excellent masterpiece! -{

    Anywhooo, any excuse to post this great piece of nostalgia again which shows the tour car's brief appearance during the Thunderball pre-titles sequence -{

    I think the clue that it isn't a Goldfinger (from 1964) car would be that it was built in 1965! :)

    Interesting that it is 'Snow Shadow Grey' rather than the correct Silver Birch though. Did they discontinue that colour?

    One thing I can't understand is that they haven't bothered to fit proper UK numberplates though. They're not hard to get hold of.

    Does anyone know what song is playing at the 3 min 40 mark? I've been trying to track it down for years...
