Madagascar Shirt

Hello friends, i finally decided to "dye" my madagascar shirt alternative (100% cotton) using tea bags (used 6)

I let them in cold water for 2 hours and now i put the shirt in

I would like to ask how long i should let it in there to get the best results and after it's done, should i wash it (and if yes in what mode) or jet let it dry out?

It's the first time i'm doing something similar so i'm a noobie at this :))

Thanks in advance -{

    Hi
I also dyed mine with tea. Here's what I did:

    1. I boiled the water with 5 tea bags in it. I used very little water (about a cup and half) to create a more concentrated reduction.

    2. Filled a bucket with warm water (not super hot or else the shirt will shrink). I added about a half cup of the tea solution and a handful of salt to the bucket of water and stirred until it was all diluted and the water color was even. The salt should help set the color.

    3. I soaked the shirt in clean warm water. If you haven't washed the shirt yet, you'll probably find the fabric is a little stiff. So soaking it first helped soften it up and make it easier for the tea dye water to be absorbed.

    4. I put the shirt in the bucket and moved it around every minute. I kept a really close eye on it. I kept adding a little more of tea solution until the color of the shirt was about 1 or 2 shades darker than what I wanted for the end result. I just wanted to add a slight brown tone and take the edge off the white. So I kept it in the water for about 15 minutes. If you want it darker, you may need to leave it in longer or add more tea solution to the bucket.

    5. As soon as it was the color I wanted (1 or 2 shades darker than the final desired color) I took it out of the tea bath and rinsed really well in cold water. That rinsing will remove some of the tea dye and lighten the color. But when it is wet it is still going to look darker than when it's dry.

    6. I let it hang dry. When it was dry the color was significantly lighter and pretty close to what I wanted.

I've washed it since then and it hasn't really lost any of the new color. So it seems to be permanent.

Only other thing I'll add is that you should always start with LESS dye than you'll think you need. You can always make things darker. But it's very tricky to remove dye to make things lighter and the chemicals on the market that do it are pretty harsh on fabric.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks a lot for the reply, welp, seems like i made a lot of mistakes already
The good thing is that.... let's just say the alternative shirt i'm using isn't the best so even if i messed it up i don't mind much since i'm planning on ordering one from rf soon!

Looking at the shirt now 3h passed, i can barely see any difference in fade which is weird soo idk :))

Anybody taken the plunge on one of these? The Madagascar shirt looks like the print is the only accurate part of it?

Just so you know, the site is reported as not secure, so I'd stay away. Apologies for posting a questionable site.
