Bond in 4k

Has anyone tried iTunes or Amazon Prime(US) 4k version? does it worth it? is it restored or upscaled?

I read about a 4k box release for Craig s movies for this December in France.
Any news about the full collection?

I own a few on itunes and they look pretty good - however the blu-ray discs are still superior to 4k streaming. I ripped the TWINE blu-ray to my hard drive and it's about 30gb; the itunes 4k download is about 10gb so.......

Apple doesn’t allow 4K downloads at the minute only HD, The only way to watch Bond in 4K (brought from ITunes) is via the 4K Apple TV

I have most on them on iTunes and find them a lot better than my Blu-rays but they will never be as good as the 4K discs.

Maybe they will launch the 4K boxset around the release date of No Time To Die.

Think they did similar with Blu-Ray and Skyfall

Hopefully they will do some steelbooks too like with Spectre. It really annoys me that they did all of Connery’s apart from Dr No.

You can also stream it in 4K on any iOS device, you just can't download it.

I’m referring to the size of the leaked iTunes 4K download. I think the standard HD downloads (the ones Apple permits you to DL to your iDevice) are around 2 or 3 gigs?

I’m happy to put comparison screenshots if ppl want... I can assure you guys the Blu-rays have more detail. The 4K stream version has the appearance of being sharper given the higher res, but if you pause and look at details its just not there to the same level. I’m sure the ultra HD 4K discs will be killer though (and hopefully with HDR).

There's 3 ways 4k releases will go IMO:

This holiday season and\or early 2020 4K discs of all movies up to Spectre get released, with $8 promotional coupons for No Time To Die.

4K discs release later in the summer 2020 (July\August) to coincide with No Time To Die's Blu-Ray/DVD/4k release.

No Time To Die Blu-ray releases August or July, followed by a comprehensive 4K set that Christmas.

I did some quick 1080p Vs 2160p "tests"

There is so many variables here that I am even not sure if this comparison worth much.
The comparison have been done "Quick and Dirty" using paint and the files I had so please take it only for what it is.

    Here the difference of format(screenshot):

Amazon.fr has the Daniel Craig 4K Collection up for pre-order with an October 23rd release date. Rumor is it will be released in North America around the same time but nothing official has surfaced yet. The timing is odd as these sets have historically been released around the new movie either in theaters or on disc. October 23rd isn't that far off so we will have an answer one way or the other very soon.

I have watched two of the iTunes 4K movies - Dr. No and Goldfinger. Not bad for streaming but I still prefer to watch my movies on disc.

Now that’s exciting news. I saw the 4K versions on iTunes but without HDR didn’t see much reason to double dip over the Blu-ray. However the listing on Amazon.fr mentions the discs will include HDR so should be a definite step up. I don’t have a UHD Blu-Ray player (at the moment I buy 4K HDR on iTunes) but if a complete Bond Boxset on UHD Disc was released I reckon that would make me upgrade!

Blu-ray.com has an updated article that lists October 22nd as the release date and that matches the date on Amazon.com.

    https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=25694

This does raise the question on how the rest of the catalog will be released. Seems like it will be in sets by actor like the more recent DVD's. I do hope they don't drag it out too long but getting the Craig movies next month is a welcome surprise.

So $55 at release, with Black Friday 4 weeks after, I'm betting this goes on sale on Amazon for $40, possibly less.

Personally, after the fiasco that was DVD... I am not buying physical media any more. I have a few CDs that are "special" to me, otherwise, I have decided to go digital. I copied all my DVDs (> 200) and that was an arduous task. They were basically worthless and I gave them all to a charity shop.

I actually have Blurays of CR and Quantum, from my time in Japan, but they didn't cost much at the time.

    I am quite the contrary.
I love to keep my stuff physical.

I‘ve just recently received a message that a streaming service, which I‘ve used ( for free with a code on a 007 DVD ) went bust and that I‘ll not have longer access to my content.

Amazon sometimes closes user accounts ( because the return option has been used too often), so good luck if that happens to you one day.

I am mix on Digital vs. Physical content.

So many movies, TV shows and other content out there...
I like to keep the best of it physical. If I really like the movie then I get the Blu-rays otherwise digital is enough(and save place)

There is a thread at The Other Place where a member has posted screenshot comparisons with the LD, DVD, BR and iTunes 4k. Might be worth a look regarding the color correction, but the physical 4k discs will most likely have much more data to offer than the streaming versions. (I'm told the iTunes downloads aren't in 4k?)

I respectfully disagree with your assessments.

As I have lived in Japan, UK, Switzerland, and now Germany, all within 5 years, it has helped me identify what is important in my 'physical life'. Obviously this is not the ideal place to discuss keeping items to a minimum, as we are in a collection sub-forum, but it still has a place.

I have about 10 CDs, and about 10 blurays/DVDs. My absolute "must haves". Then I have GB of high resolution films from my old collection, which is possibly technically piracy but I don't share them and donated the hard copies.

    Music streaming goes without saying.

What streaming service recently went bust? Also, the streaming services cost less than a DVD per month. I see streaming as rental. You don't own what you're paying for, you rent it. If you view it like that, you won't have an issue.

Amazon will not close my account. I have never returned anything to Amazon. Switzerland doesn't have Amazon, and it's pretty awful in Germany so I don't bother using it much. If you're talking about Prime video, I don't have it, nor ever will.

My iTunes copy says Casino Royale is in 4K, but it looks like rubbish. The other Bonds I have all look much better. Not sure if they failed to upgrade my original purchase from long ago or what. QoS and GoldenEye look wonderful. I'm watching on my iPhone X.

Anyone pre ordered the 4k set on Amazon uk at £60 ?
Or wait untill closer to Christmas, when it could drop in
    Price.
My only experience of 4k is from digital downloads, looking
Forward to seeing the difference in a physical disc.
