For Your Eyes Only Premiere back in 1981

Hi,

Why was Carole Bouquet not present at the premiere of For Your Eyes Only ? I heard that she might have fallen from grace with the producers, but I'm not sure and if it's true, I'm curious as to why ?

Anybody knows ?

thanks

    Hi, and welcome.
Carole Bouquet has made no secret of the fact that she didn't enjoy the filming of FYEO. To paraphrase, she has said it was no fun standing around while a stuntwoman stood in for her, and it was all faked. I'd therefore suggest that it was her decision not to attend the premiere rather than the producers.

It's a shame, I thought she was Moore's best Bond girl. If only she'd been allowed to keep her actual voice. If you watch one or two of the deleted scenes from the film you can hear her and she sounds just fine. I think there was no animosity between her and Moore though.

Yes, I know she didn't enjoy the filming that much. But I listened to an interesting podcast yesterday from John Grover & Colin Miller (editing & sound editing) and the former told the story of how she told him she simply was not invited to the premiere (and sadden by that), but was not very clear on the reasons. Here is the link.

Was Bouquet a hit in the U.S.? I don’t recall so. This was the age of T and A, and Farrah Fawcett, Loni Anderson, Catherine Bach, and others were on posters everywhere. I’m not sure I saw much about Bouquet, though she might have done Playboy. I do recall a supermarket tabloid speculating that she was a transvestite (the term used back then). That rumor seemed to grow over time since there is a transgender model seen briefly in the movie.

I’m not saying this to cast aspersions on her, but I’m wondering if she just didn’t have the impact the producers were hoping for and, perhaps, they downplayed her participation.
