I feel like the yellow squares should be a bit more or a burnt shade (kind of like Matt’s original diagram).

I agree. I think that making the orange squares lighter and more golden makes the tie even less subtle than the original. I think that making the squares darker, something more like a bronze colour, would be more along the lines of the burnt-orange colour on screen while also being more subdued. I'm thinking of a colour like in the diamond-motif tie from Tomorrow Never Dies that T&A still make.

I'd also agree. It's the richness of the orange contrasting with the blues which makes the original so appealing.

You've nailed the blue, Indy, but the other squares look, well, yellow - whereas the original is definitely more orange, even given the differences between screens and lighting.

As Indy said, the colour isn't right. But I find the tie in the film to be rather garish with its vivid blue and vivid gold colours. I think this is a happy accident and it looks even better with the more muted colours!

There's some mixed messages for Indy in this thread. So are muted colours or the rich, contrasting colours the way to go? Maybe a little in between?

I have to say I'm on the muted side. The original, with that rich orange and contrast with the blue, just seems too much...too gaudy...too 90's. Buuuut I understand that in this crazy Bond collecting world it's SA or bust.

The thing is that the colour he ended up with is not muted, it's just a different bright colour: gold instead of orange. I had suggested going with a bronze colour to capture the spirit of the original orange while making it more muted.

The on screen version does look like it falls closer to a bronze. If you colour correct the screen grab here (noting the fact that Brosnan's skin looks like he's running for presidency in the US, and that there's a nasty cast across the Brioni suit as well) you get something darker and closer to a copper / bronze.

    Note that I have not adjusted the colouring of the tie samples on the left hand side in this edit;

I'm grateful for all the feedback, keep it up! So, since you're all on board to helping out, here are our thread options for this:

    ZMRPfm0l.jpg
    JOBrKafl.jpg
    WKVEruwl.jpg

The first swatch used thread 658.
The second swatch used thread 367-4.

I'm thinking to try out 376-1 for the next one. I'm afraid that the more "orange" colors would just be way too bold (like 382 or 374). What do you guys think?

    Kind regards,
    Indy

The second swatch used thread 367-4.

:s Really? In that case not sure I can provide helpful feedback here, as they look so different to my eyes.

Appreciate your effort to crowdsource the right look though!

I think 376-1 could possibly provide good results. It's difficult to tell when seeing these threads only against white. 374 might be closest to screen-accurate, but without being able to compare these threads directly against the blue and black it's almost impossible to tell.

I agree, think 374 could be a good match.

Looks like we may have a winner (far right is the newest swatch):

Interesting! To be honest I bet that third swatch is probably pretty close to what the original tie looked like. I do wonder if the somewhat more muted blue on the second swatch might work better though (or are they the same blue in different lighting)? Wonder if anyone can do a photoshop mockup combining #2 and #3 lol

#3 looks damned close to me. But it’s been a long time.

Looks great Indy! What thread was used for the new one?
  • Indy MagnoliIndy Magnoli Somewhere in the PacificPosts: 429MI6 Agent
The newest sample uses 376-1. The blue is supposed to be the same as sample #2, but I'm waiting on confirmation of that as it does look different in the photo. That could just be lighting though.

Here is another shot of the three swatches more clearly showing the blue is the same in the second and third swatch:

How long does a typical item take in production, Indy, from prototype to being on sale?

In normal times, 30-45 days for full production, but there are so many wildcards in the world today, it's really hard to say. I'll give it a few more days to read any more comments from you guys...

Although i have already purchased two 007 ties from Magnoli, i have completely forgotten that there are many more listed in the store that i don't have. This thread reignited my interest in them!

In other words, I like how this Goldeneye tie is progressing and when it is ready i will order it along with the other 5 or 6 that i am missing.

Good job so far! The third swatch is the one i prefer so far as well.

What color will the tipping be? I could be wrong, but I don’t believe we get a glimpse at the color on screen.
  • cyclones122cyclones122 Posts: 192MI6 Agent
I'll see if we can do both widths at the same time in the run. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks Indy! Would be great if could do it!

I'm not sure any of us will be going anywhere soon where we'd need to wear a tie, so I guess there's no rush... :))

Unless someone knows otherwise, I think we'll just put a dark blue satin into the tip.

We're going to proceed with the latest swatch... stay tuned!

Just confirmed we'll be making both a 3.75" wide and a 3.25" wide version. Here is the final swatch on our Goldeneye Tie:

Indy, any color differences between this final swatch and swatch #3 from the last pic?

    No, that's the same swatch.
