Ever wondered, why the COVID numbers in the UK are so high?

At work we also deal with NHS Pensions, this means we get quite a number of death certificates in...it’s been noted that almost all death certificates are citing COVID-19 as the main contributor to death...it’s quite striking just how many of the ‘other causes of death’ have been relegated to secondary causes...at best!
I’ve been told that a death certificate stating death due to COVID-19 means that no autopsy is carried out - I have no idea IF this is a fact but it sounds logical.
So it appears that national figures are being ‘massaged’ upwards...hence the overly high numbers of COVID-19 deaths reported.

I was reading about this the other day ... If I could remember where I'd try and find a link.

Basically saying you could have a heart attack but if you'd tested for COVID 19 that would be you cause of death regardless.

I'm sure we will get a reviewed figure somewhere along the way.

Increased mortality of 50.000 would be similar to the reported Covid numbers in the UK.
    Makes sense to me

There may be a „pushing“ of numbers in certain areas while it‘s almost certain that the „real“ number of infections and deaths is not fully represented.
Seems that both equal out more or less.

The prognosis... es (what's the plural of prognosis?) for the German economy this year is a drop of 10% while the prognosis is a drop of 34%. Is it the slower and less severe corona restrictions? Do you know any prognosis for other countries?

There are various kinds of drunk in this world-

The sentimental drunk: embraces next person, tells them they love them.
The argumentative drunk: disagrees with every slightest thing.
The fighting drunk: needs no explanation.
The lecturing drunk: one of my pals does this.
The weeping drunk: recognizable by the green trainers.

I, of course, am a singing drunk convinced that everyone within a quarter of a mile wants to hear me belting out Johnny Cash songs.

.... but we seem to have wandered ever so slightly off-topic....

Finns usually display all of these symptoms at one time or another during the night out... That's why we have developed a national pastime of drinking alone; Kalsarikännit.

It's funny what words can tell you about a country. In Norway we get so much rain have a word for a beer drank outside: "utepils"

Germany mandates all (air) travelers to take a Covid test upon arrival when they come from declared risk countries. The tests are free of charge.

Optional Covid tests showed positive rates of 2-3% on airport, so in our government‘s opinion this money is well spent!

Are you saying that mandatory testing of people coming from risk countries is not the government's money well spent? I would think that testing those people is a great idea...and certainly would be common sense to do so ?:) Even if the positive results are low, people coming from risk countries would naturally be at a higher risk than those who haven't travelled, so positive ID'ing even just a few cases as they come back in before they can spread it around their community would definitely be worth it.
  • HigginsHiggins GermanyPosts: 16,619MI6 Agent
Oh, I absolutely agree, that it‘s money well spent.

On the other hand, there should be mandatory Covid tests for people who knowingly travel to risk countries and let them pay on their return.
But there will be many people trying to go around this and that‘s why they have dropped the idea and I agree.

I actually think that a 2-3% positivity rate for optional tests is quite high and it may be even higher now after they‘ve made it mandatory.

In Finland the Rt has gone up from the pre-July number of <1 to 1,7. Also there is no mandatory testing/isolation of people returning from abroad.
Things are going to hell in a handcart at an increasing pace.

As someone said to me we can never control this, as I responded to them it is totally within the human race ability to take control of COVID if we all start using common sense, stop bleeting about how hard done by we are, appreciate what we do have and work together globally to stamp it out.

Or we can carry on as we are today and be still dealing with this for years to come.

It’s our choice as the only partially intelligent race on the planet - though some are drastically challenging that these days!

    Cheers :007)
