Advice from Gjerta (104) who survived the Spanish Flu: "One should avoid gatherings and such, and keep more to yourself. I think I would have cancelled different kinds of gatherings."

I am posting news from Cebu province only not the entire Philippines.

83 people were arrested for breaking the curfew. They face either a 1000 peso fine or 30 days imprisonment.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

I'm following Government Advice, but I do work in retail and expect to be out of work
perhaps next week or the week after. Then given my age and how long this virus will
linger on, I don't expect to work again ........... so plenty more time to annoy others
    on AJB007 ;)

    Me too.

I’m a self employed ophiologist. Doubt I will get work until the end of the year if things progress as they are.

    Sucks!

Sounds like 2020 is going down as a horribilis for many.

I have a small business on Amazon Marketplace.
Last week, Amazon has announced, that they are stopping the delivery of non-essential goods from Amazon Marketplace sellers.

That means that many small businesses are sitting on piles of stock that they can‘t put on Amazon anymore and this will have a huge impact to many.

I‘ll be shipping now Amazon orders directly again - something that Amazon was trying to get rid of while pushing their FBA services.
The short notice is particularly annoying because I‘ve just considered paying $6000 for an airfreight delivery. I don’t need that now because shipping my own stock will mean that sales will significantly slow down in the coming weeks.
I could have lost that amount if I‘d ordered the airfreight 1 week earlier.

One of the many positive effects of being a memeber of AJB is leaning new words:
Herpetology (from Greek ἑρπετόν herpetón, meaning "reptile" or "creeping animal") is the branch of zoology concerned with the study of amphibians (including frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, and caecilians (gymnophiona)) and reptiles (including snakes, lizards, amphisbaenids, turtles, terrapins, tortoises, crocodilians, and the tuataras)

Your profession is sometimes handy as a Bond fan, isn't it?

My thoughts are with all AJB members that are suffering either economically or physically through this terrible time.

Our household has been hit financially but we'll consider ourselves extremely fortunate if that's all. Hoping and praying for loved ones around the world and wishing everybody on here all the very best. :x

A bit of Black Humour, but I thought it funny.

On leaving work yesterday ( I'm on a weeks holiday ) One of the guys played through some
speakers the siren from The Purge Movies.

I blame wikipedia, known as the source of all knowledge to millions. They insist you're an expert on reptiles. In spite of wikipedia I find it likely you know what you've been doing for years, so what is it?

It’s close. I specialise in venomous snakes, particularly vipers and elapids. Frogs and turtles and lizards I leave to other folks. They’re boring :))

Thinking back you may have metioned it before. It's even more Bondian.
In can picture Bond saying: "You forget, Miss Moneypenny, I took a degree in Ophiology at Oxford" :007)

The schools are closed in most countries by now, I think. Here the kids have " home office" and they are eductated and get homework via the internet. Is that how it works in other countries?

In the US, it really depends on the city. Cities with more money have a better framework in which to keep educating the kids online. Some poorer cities/school districts are outright closed, from what I understand. Pretty much all colleges offer online classes of some sort, so I believe that most college students are able to keep progressing.

It's not like that here. The municipalities that struggle with debt don't hand out iPads to pupils, but that's it. I guess I'm living in the Kuwait of Europe ….

How do you call an Ophiologist who is getting bitten by a juvenile snake and almost hits the bucket because of it?

    A Dumbass? :D

“Kicks the bucket” you idiot 8-)

And I’m doing well. Only been bitten 3 times and had my eyes envenomated twice. A colleague has been bitten 47 times by one species alone. It’s an occupational hazard. Like having to talk to green trainer wearing, opinionated nob-hats when joining AJB.
