I started watching this on Netflix and part of the story line is that a detective is brought in from Oslo to help in an investigation in Iceland....I always thought that Iceland was more Danish than Norwegian?

I know that in history that it has had ties with all the Nordic countries, but still, isn't it more Danish than Norwegian?

It's a dark story to say the least...

In the viking age Iceland had a closer relationship with Norway than Denmark. Early on Iceland was part of the Kingdom of Norway before it was independent for a while. From the middle ages to 1814 Iceland was a part of the Kingdom of Denmark-Norway, where the king and most of the administration was Danish. Norway got a constitution and entered a simmular union with Sweden in 1814, but Iceland remained a part of Denmark. Under WWII Denmark was under German occupasion and Iceland was occupied by the US. Obviously the Americans were far more welcome than the Germans. In 1944 Iceland became independent again. I think some Icelanders go to Denmark for higher education and Danish is a common second or third language at school on the island.

I just checked the IMDB entry for The Valhalla Murders. It says: "Police profiler Arnar is sent back home from Oslo to his native Iceland to investigate the country's first serial killer case." Many Icelanders moved to Norway after the Iclanedic economy crashed and burned in 2008, so this makes sense.
