PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT WE ARE ALL STARTING 10 MINUTES LATER !

The 19:00 deadline is set so that everybody has enough time to find their DVDs/Blu Rays, boot their players and get done with the menus and pause right before the gunbarrel sequence.

WE ARE STARTING PRECISELY AT 19:10

- Please make sure that everybody has their BluRay/DVD/VCR ready and start the player latest 19:00 GMT to get done with all the dodgy menus.
- PAUSE YOUR PLAYER RIGHT BEFORE WHERE IN ALL RATIONALITY THE GUNBARREL SEQUENCE SHOULD BE AND
- HIT PLAY PRECISELY AT 19:10.
I‘ll post some timecodes during the thread just in case that somebody has messed it up

Happy to be able to join in for this on Friday.
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.

Wait... does this mean we're watching only the end titles, this time?!

It’s the date at that current time in the listed location. That picture showing all the time zones is old though—from April 4 (04/04)—or the date on it is incorrectly set. But going by that image, 2000 on the April 4 in London makes it 0700 on April 5 in Wellington.

Below is an updated version (with correct dates) for the Skyfall viewing.

Thanks, and I have updated the chart.

I have been recycling the old one from early April, never thought that anyone would care about the date :D

Cool! So with SF, it begins with the MGM logo, followed by the Columbia Pictures logo. Our starting point, I'd venture, should be when the Columbia Pictures logo fades, just before the first shot of the movie proper...

I'm looking forward to it, too. This time I won't be doing my usual discussion of the musical cues, since there are a lot of them and they're mostly very similar.

I‘ll be missing your comments, Barbel.

They will be back, when you pick a film with a better score! Newman's work hasn't impressed me, I'm afraid (even less with SP). I do like Adele's song, though.

If there only was some other aspect than the music you could comment on …
  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 37,854Chief of Staff
8-) Yes, cos that's all I have ever commented on previously.

He has a broad knowledge about german beer and Scotch whisky - not sure how helpful that would be :D

    Good, because that's what I thought. :D

On a slightly other topic: At some point we'll run out of Bond films or we'll feel the need for more variation. Do you (plural) think we can expand to other films? I know the chanses everyone has excess to a particular movie, but this is so much fun I think we should consider it. We won't get everyone each time, but I think it could work. Perhaps other spy movies (Jason Bourne, Mission Impossible etc.) or classical special operations films like "The guns of Navarone" or "The eagles nest". I think there'll be enough of us for it to work.
    Discuss. :)

Hey, hold on there N24!!!! Far too soon!!!
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,330MI6 Agent
It's far too soon to do it, but I don't think it's too soon to talk about it. I look forward to watching the Bond films we skiped in the first round, but I think it could be nice to watch for example "The guns of Navarone" together at some point.
  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 37,854Chief of Staff
It's a good film, and David Niven is in it, but it'll be a while before we get to that.

Alistair MacLean is a good subject for us Bond fans to get into, but if we go there eventually I'd suggest "Where Eagles Dare" first.
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,330MI6 Agent
I was actually thinking of "Where eagles dare" when I wrote "The Eagles nest", I just translated the Norwegian title without thinking. :))
I don't think we'll watch it in May, but we may be ready in June.

The issue with non-Bond films, even some big ones, is that a lot of members won’t have them on disc or might not be subscribed to a streaming service that has them. But this being a Bond forum, there’s a pretty good chance that most have access to all the Bond films; which is why these rewatches have worked.
  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 37,854Chief of Staff
But guys, plenty more Bond movies to watch first!

I know nothing technical about music, but I think this is a gem; from an article by Warren Ringham, 'What Is The James Bond Sound?' in his 2019 souvenir programme for Q The Music's James Bond Concert Spectacular:

"In 2012, Paul Epworth called the Minor 9 chord the 'Bond chord' [courtesy of John Barry] and used it at the start (and end) of the song 'Skyfall' which he composed with Adele."
