I'm laughing at the 'Chinese Tourists' in your post. When I was there last July, it felt like half of China/SE Asia was there, especially in the high end (Prada/Gucci) type stores.
Venice was quite lovely, though. The wife and I had an amazing time there, and it's fun to see this film and MR use Venice so well.

I feel I'm in an increasingly unique position here, since I read the book before seeing the film (and OHMSS too). Those two are the closest to the books, and it's hard to make choice between them from that perspective. FRWL has Connery and Barry, which are both enormous plus points. OHMSS has the better score, but Lazenby.
I feel that Barry was 'onto' Fleming in his score for FRWL and that, from GF onwards, he was more 'onto' what the films had become as a phenomenon in their own right. (Either way, he was a genius.)

I like the entire spy plot, down to the details, but the conversation after Grant overpowered Bond is weak imo.
There is something missing imo and I find it not convincing.
The fight that follows later is brutal and the rest of the movie was very enjoyable.
But OHMSS is a different beast imo and ranks far above.
So, how is your take about the similarities in the father figures Kerim and Draco, Barbel?

I'm personally game for anything, but I think we should do another Connery. In the first cycle, we did 2 Connery films, OHMSS, 2 Moores, 1 Dalton, 2 Brosnan, and 2 Craig. We could pretty much do the same again (save for OHMSS), finishing off with the final 2 (or 3) Connery films and the final 3 Moore films.
eta: to finish off this fun exercise, I'd like to respectfully suggest that we do TB followed by NSNA.

Thanks. Now we have seen possibly the best Connery Bond. I suggest we watch one of the ….. least good next: DAF.
I think even Sean himself thought that this was his best Bond film.
Of note, there was a really decent Bond video game made of FRWL with Sean doing the voice acting as Bond. If you never played it, it's worth checking out. It'd be dirt cheap by now.

Me, too... though in my case, sadly, it's because my first viewing of both films, and of YOLT, was on their original UK TV broadcast in the 70s when I was a boy, rather than in the cinema; and I'd read the Jonathan Cape editions of all three novels before seeing those films at all. (Fortunately, I'd seen DAF in the cinema on its first release, and soon after I'd seen DN/GF and DN/TB double bills in the cinema, before reading those books.)

In my opinion, we should save TB (Connery's most iconic) and DAF (his worst) for the next time and go to YOLT on Friday.
After that, my suggestion is LALD and FYEO before we move to CR and QoS.
