David Niven's Bond lost the love of his life, Mata Hari. So he has something in common with the Lazenby/Connery/Moore/Dalton/Brosnan Bond, who'd lost Tracy.
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.
David Niven's Bond is really engaging, playing light comedy and exuding aristocratic class. In some ways he overlaps with Roger Moore's take on action heroism... perhaps more Brett Sinclair than James Bond, but without the libido.

Moore was quite open about admiring Niven- sometimes you can see him using his style (eg telling the chauffeur he won't be needing him any more tonight in FYEO)

I'm getting a 'Michael Caine in DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS' vibe from him, although a bit more broad.
Not surprising- Caine played the part played by Niven in the original, "Bedtime Story"

Scary to know Buttercup is also chicken mad Ruby from OHMSS!
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?
The off-colour Daddy issues jokes here wouldn't be acceptable today... but there was also a vein of 'Daddy issues' with Bond girls in the main series: Melina (avenging), Octopussy (forgiving), Stacey... and later Madeleine.
Niven resists playing the bathtub scene at quite a 'Carry On...' level of humour, but it's borderline.

Didn't the aboout ten directors lose the same bet? )
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
Let me put it this way- she had a better Scottish accent than Craig, Brosnan, Dalton, Moore, and Lazenby.
Deep fried.
The set pieces are Vile!
Meg is played by Alexandra Bastedo, Sharon Macready of The Champions fame.
Thsi is getting more and more like a Norwegian cooking program ....
