I'm currently 57 minutes in on my DVD (start of the car parkade scene), which is a PAL DVD and therefore slightly sped up compared to US DVDs or blu-rays.

Man, look at these shot compositions. Just stupendous.

It's very bold camerawork. As an occasional cameraman myself I wouldn't have the guts to attempt many of these shots in my own work.

The depth of field is one of the benefits of the Techniscope process that was used in this film.

Harry Saltzman (no surprise) didn't agree with the director's approach- http://www.cineoutsider.com/reviews/bluray/i/ipcress_file_br.html

I actually find it pretty boring :#
It just flows without real highs and suspense.

Thankfully Furie got to make the film he wanted. This is one of the best directed and shot films that I can remember seeing. It's really a masterclass in direction if you want to learn your craft.

Did Furie direct anything else worth watching? The only other one that I think I have watched is Iron Eagle as far as I remember, and I didn't think that was anything special.

I found it a bit boring on first viewing, and subsequently it became one of my favourite films. If my experience is anything to go by, it's a film that grows on you.

"The Naked Runner" is another spy film he directed, but I didn't like it much. "Lady Sings The Blues" was a success, I believe, though I haven't seen that.

I always found it a bit confusing with the food, and how he always seems to get burned each time he touches it.

Something confusing in a Deighton plot? Surely you jest!

The film torture bit reminds me a little of Le Chiffre's torture of the mind of Casino Royale '67...this film is much better though. :)
