7FAM Mercer Jean

Anyone out there have a pair for sell that are sizes 34 waist and up? I have been on a hunt to find a pair for a while and haven't gotten lucky enough to find a pair. They can be new or used. Thank you.

oddly enough, I bought what appears to be the Mercers off Mercari for $20. They look like they are in good condition. If they aren't the Mercers then they are pretty darn close based on the photos I've seen. So, if they aren't the ones I can still get some good use and wear out of them.

I'm assuming someone here has asked 7FAM about reissuing these jeans. They obviously haven't but I'm wondering if they shared their reasoning with the community. Did they?

And maybe, all these years on, there are some new players and they'd entertain it today.

EDIT: I'm willing to spearhead a second effort. Any bullet points to convince them to reissue would be useful. I'll point out that the jeans, when they become available on the secondary used market and are properly labeled as "James Bond" QoS jeans, sell for upwards of $1000 depending on condition and size. And that Bond has only ever worn two pairs of jeans - the Mercers and the TFs (that's correct, yes?). What else should I be saying?

I'm pretty sure that someone here on the forum has asked 7FAM to reissue the pants but they didn't get anywhere! Not to be negative but a lot of these companies don't seem too interested in reissuing items from the past. I myself has reached out to a few different companies (Levi's, Church's, Converse, Adidas/Y3 and J. Crew to name a few) to let them see that there is demand for certain products but I seem to always get the canned corporate response which is extremely frustrating. Some of these companies don't know when to capatilize on demand 8-)

Regarding what to say to 7FAM.... I would explain to them it's a long sought after piece and that most people who buy will buy in multiples. Also those people once exposed to the brand will buy more product and will introduce more people too the brand and honestly what company doesn't like FREE advertising!

I'm already chatting with their marketing director directly. So at least it's a person and a start.

The last time someone reached out to 7FAM they had just been bought out and were in a state of flux.

Frommeyer, it's not just the specific QoS jeans, but the Mercer wash/fabric in general that should be brought back. There was a time when the Mercer was available on at least 4 different styles in their mens jeans. It was even more prevalent in the women's line.

Good points, Westward. I'm being as clear as possible with her about what we want.

I'm compiling a list of brands that rode the Bond wave with screenshots from websites that advertised their Bond connection. I have a bunch of screenshots from Omega like this (showing the Mercer jeans, no less):

I know Sunspel use to have a page dedicated to Bond and the Riviera but I can't find it. Anyone have a link or screenshots? I'm also going to include a bit about Billy Reid and the peacoat. Anything else I should reference?

Turnbull and Asser has a whole page regarding their Bond Heritage. Link below. Of course Orlebar Brown has one too. Link below.

  • (I hope I'm wrong) but I think the main issue besides having permission from those who own copy rights to all things James Bond, in the past, was that the original Mercer fabric is no longer available to 7 for all mankind. So if there is a reissue, it might be distinctly different from the originals.

Here's an example: this is a pair of anniversary reissue bootcut jeans in "Mercer" that are currently on their website, and to my eyes, the fabric doesn't have the same sheen or depth as the original mercer did. Just looks like a normal dark wash to me, but I'll let you be the judge.

Just found a pair of 31 waist Mecers, verified with style number on tag, on Mercari for $30! Too small for me, but may work for someone else.
Too good not to share! Just found this item on Mercari.

I think the SA Mercers have two belt loops in the center back, but I can't tell from the pics supplied if these do.

In QoS he wears a (similarly coveted) pair of Levis Sta-Prest jeans in off white.

Dalton wears jeans when he's at the worm factory in LTK. https://www.bondsuits.com/oversized-t-shirt-in-licence-to-kill/

But yes, it's rare and these jeans are the most highly sought after.

Were the SA pair of these a special model/edition/collaboration/etc?? From what I can remember, they had a unique design on the inner waistband that I haven’t seen on any other pair of 7FAM. Then there’s also the belt loop placement that seems quite unique to the SA pair as well.

I don't think they were a special edition. Search around the forums for Mercer and you'll find comprehensive info.

Wildly, links shared in 2008 here still have working images - https://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/7-for-all-mankind-standard-fit-mercer-jeans-prod41340028

    Edit: From an old thread.

I would buy 2 or 3 pairs in a heartbeat. I've had a couple pairs of 7fam jeans before and they're honestly the most comfortable and good looking jeans i've owned. frommeyer, if you'd like some help with anything, research, pics etc. please let me know. I'm still waiting on follow up from my initial contact. I was sorta busy over the weekend, but I'm compiling information for two pitches (for lack of a better word) - one, a comprehensive argument for re-issuing SA jeans; it will contain as much information as I can find on other companies who had success with their re-issues and/or marketing their Bond connection. Two, a much shorter, cleaner elevator pitch.

I'm open to collaborating on both/either. I see no reason to rush. Wiser to come at it right the first time.

And if anyone with experience in getting a re-issue to happen has some tips, please, share.
  • JTullock23JTullock23 ArizonaPosts: 559MI6 Agent
I hope, and I know I am not alone on this, that whichever pitch you make to them that it will take root and grow. To me it makes sense for them to do a reissue. I would assume that it would cost them the same to reissue this pant as it would be to issue any other one, but I could be wrong. With this possible reissue, if we could show them hard numbers that say 50 or more people would buy 80 - 100 pairs you'd think they'd want to do that. I have seen this type of thing at a former job I had in men's retail clothing sales. If the demand is there a company usually will do what they can to meet that demand. It is all about that Net, bottom line number.
