3 fears, 2 hopes

Trailer looks great, and looking forward to the film immensely.

But I have 3 fears. How likely do you think each of these will happen?

Fear 1 - Bond will die
Fear 2 - Nomi will be 007 (I don't want to see anyone as 007 except bond, doesn't matter who)
Fear 3 - Safin will be Dr No (I really don't see the point, new villains please)

I also have 2 hopes

Hope 1 - The Garden Of Death is included
Hope 2 - The NTTD title relates to the plot. (I still really don't like the title, it's way too unoriginal for my taste, but if it relates to the plot in a specific way, this would make me warm to it more)

So basically, post your predictions on how likely my fears and hopes will occur

I don't think there's any need for spoilers because it's all predictions, but if you know something, then use spoiler tags
1 - LALD, 2 - AVTAK, 3 - LTK, 4 - OP, 5 - NTTD, 6 - FYEO, 7 - SF, 8 - DN, 9 - DAF, 10 - TSWLM, 11 - OHMSS, 12 - TMWTGG, 13 - GE, 14 - MR, 15 - TLD, 16 - YOLT, 17 - GF, 18 - DAD, 19 - TWINE, 20 - SP, 21 - TND, 22 - FRWL, 23 - TB, 24 - CR, 25 - QOS

1 - Moore, 2 - Dalton, 3 - Craig, 4 - Connery, 5 - Brosnan, 6 - Lazenby

I really hope Safin doesn't turn out to be Dr. No- regurgitating old villains like this (except Blofeld) makes the 007 universe feel smaller.

Nomi [sic? not sure] probably is Agent 007 as the film commences (unless I've misread things; I haven't been paying strict attention lately), but my guess is that it is she who will die by the time the credits roll, and not Bond. And I do not believe that Safin is Dr. No.

    I'm just hoping for a good Bond film - one befitting a Craigger swan song -{

    I know this has been discussed previously and elsewhere on the boards, but in response to your three particular fears Jarvio;

Fear 1 - Bond will die
I think it will be left open with the audience wondering. (He better not die!! X-(

Fear 2 - Nomi will be 007 (I don't want to see anyone as 007 except bond, doesn't matter who)
I think she will be 007. I've made my peace with this. If Bond has left the service, why wouldn't they reassign his number to another 'employee'. It's not like they're a football club and they should consider retiring a great player's shirt. As long as he returns to 007 either later in the film or for Bond 26, I'm fine with this.

Fear 3 - Safin will be Dr No (I really don't see the point, new villains please)
I don't think he'll be Dr No, but it wouldn't surprise me if he turns out to be. I too am worried that the series will start bringing back arch enemies (a la the Marvel universe).

My other fear (albeit probably not the right word for this theory) concerns something else strongly rumoured, but as this post is not in the Spoiler thread. I'll refrain.

    1) I don't think or hope Bpond will die, but it'snot impossible.

    2) I think Nomi will be 007 at the start of the movie, but I don't think she will be at the end. Hopefully she dies a heroic death.

    3) I don't think Safin will be Dr No, but he may have elements from the character.

Fear 1 - Bond will die

I wrote a post about it just after the release of the new trailer.

Blofeld warning Bond with his "it will be the death of you" was enough to have a doubt about the fact they'd really dare to kill him off. Why would you make the villain tease the heore's death in a trailer if such an event is supposed to constitute the climax of the movie ? You'd better avoid the subject if you want the audience to be fully surprised.

The second clue is nothing less than Moneypenny's: "Everyone tries at least once" about the fact she almost killed him once (reference to Skyfall). She says it with some kinf of disregard, which makes the line funny. IMO, Bond's death is a serious matter and joking about it would be inappropriate if it turned to be true, especially in a trailer which is not supposed to spoil the climax.

I may be wrong of course, but I sincerely hope our beloved James will survive.

My guess is sometime in the third act or resolution, Nomi offers to give "007" back to Bond but he refuses it. Fukunaga said the core tension between Bond/Nomi is the new and the old generation. So, I figure that a good one of showing this would be the new gaining respect for the old and the old passing on the torch to the new.

I also believe that, if her character is received well and the film makes money, it's not entirely impossible for a Nomi-led spinoff film that takes place in the Craig-Bond continuity with the same M/Moneypenny/Q/etc.

As for Bond dying, I think what'll happen is he chooses his own death to save Madeleine (and maybe a...well man and a woman make a...) and people believe him to be dead.

But he's James Bond. One rule — nothing can kill him.

He'll attain "rebirth" and live a happy life with his family. Master of the two worlds, all this mythological stuff. Perhaps if NTTD is what I think it'll be, I'll write about it one day. The first four Craig films have roughly followed a normal, mythologically-inspired character arc of a hero.

Poses the question, who's already tried before...you might even expect Blofeld to get out of that box for another crack...though hopefully not as easily as Silva! 8-)

I think that he'll have to accept being 007 again. I suspect that, for the first two acts (when Nomi is 007), he'll be operating without a License to Kill. This will have ramifications on his actions, possibly preventing him from acting with impunity. When Nomi dies, M will reinstate Bond as 007 so that he can have a License to Kill again, enabling him to really cut loose in the climax.

You seriously think Nomi is gonna die ? They'll never dare it ! They prefer killing Bond off than having their woke black female character which represents the new era's good thinking to pass away. Nomi will be some kind of Mary-Sue, like Rey in Star Wars, while Bond will be some kind of Han Solo, with the same fate I fear...

    I wish Nomi dies but I know it's impossible. I wish Bond survives but I don't know if it's possible...EON 2020 fellows !

Bond surviving is very much possible. Bond dieing to open of for Nomi as the next 007 in the coming movies is impossible, it simply won't happen. Babs has even said it to the press - Bond is and always will be a man.

    I hope we get a traditional ending. Bond and Madeline on a big yellow dinghy in the ocean -{
    Bond gets knighted.
Nomi does a self-sacrificial death (gets her out of the picture but in an honourable way)

I am worried the gunbarrel will be messed up again (theme starting on a blank screen like in SP.) If it's Nomi instead of Bond doing the gunbarrel I may walk out of the cinema :))
I am worried Felix is gonna die. (Just like Mathis and Vesper died, killing all the supporting cast from Casino)
I fear that Bond won't get laid much in this film

Bond will bed Madeleine, that's almost 100% certain. They won't be in a relationship during the entire movie, giving Bond a window of oportunity. Ane des Armas is 32 years old, but she looks about ten years younger so her in Bed with Craig will look questionable. I think the Nomi character has a different dynamic with Bond so I don't think they'll end up in bed together. It's possible Bond beds a woman who's not in the main cast between the end of the PTS and when he meets Madeleine again, a bit like the "enjoying death" scene in SF.

    Two points to add:
    1) In one of the promotional videos on Youtube Cary can be heard talking about how important the gunbarrel iconography is, so this gives me hope that it will be there in its normal style and place.

    2) One reason why Eon might not choose to end the film with Bond explicitly dying is in case they want to try and lure Craig back for another film, after all. If Craig's version of the character is shown to be well and truly dead, and they do go down this route, then this would make it impossible for Eon to try and get Craig back for another film, and I'd think they'd want to leave the door open for this scenario.

I think DC is well and truly done with Bond now but I would welcome him back with open arms for a 2023 release (ain't gonna happen with Covid), in a stand alone, good old fashioned mission, without any strings and personal issues.

Traditionally, we are not supposed to ask ourselves whether Bond is going to pass away, especially with such a title.
Furthermore, if you only focus on the atmosphere of the trailer and some of the scenes, Bond seems to get out of every explosive situation in which he's involved. For instance, just after M's "Come on Bond, where the hell are you?", we can see him underwater presumably escaping from the boat just before it blows up. If you ask me if the two trailers and the various TV spots make me think the man is going to be killed off, I would say I'm one hundred percent sure he's NOT.

But given I have no trust in Waller-Bridge for giving the genuine Bond fans what they want, I have doubts. To tell the truth, I've never been as worried about a Bond film as I am right now !

I don't know why you have no trust in Waller-Bridge giving fans what they want. What I do think we can see her fingerprints is the humor. Based on the trailers NTTD looks to be the funniest Bond in the Craig era and I suspect she came up with many of the jokes.

Relax, Waller-Bridge was not the primary script writer. Purvis/Wade along with Fukunaga were the primary scriptwriters with Scott Z. Burns doing some polishing. That being said, Waller-Bridge might be the best script writer out of the bunch. She has a wicked sense of very dark humor that could work well for Bond.

Yeah, in this interview (https://www.interviewmagazine.com/film/cary-fukunaga-miranda-july-spring-issue-2020), Fukunaga said the genesis of that came from Barbara Broccoli.

Also that interview is most certainly worth the read.

Waller-Bridge belongs to those people who think the vintage version of Bond is so disgusting it has to be destroyed once and for all, which could be done in some way with killing him off in NTTD. I think Bond must remain the character created by Ian Fleming and portrayed by Connery. When you see this classy man slapping women and making love to them without any emotional attachment, it's totally part of the charm.

It seems obvious to me the character of Nomi is replacing Bond as 007 to compensate the frustration of Waller-Bridge and her friends. If you read some of her interviews, she really seems to hate the original Bond. But for a genuine fan, I think I'm not completely wrong with saying Fleming's novels and Connery's portrayal are the essence of the series.

    Here is my rundown:
    Fears-
    1. Bond will die or that the ENTIRE movie will be a dream he is having whilst on vacation in the Bahamas or wherever.
    2. Madeleine will be too front and center in the movie. I don't care much for her and I don't want this to be a love story with some action.
    3. Safin is Dr. No. I am fine if he is Dr. No-esque, but not Dr. No.

    Hopes-
    1. The full film has the great visuals like the trailer did. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.
    2. Bond is a strong protagonist.

    Honorable Mention:
It is worth noting that if Bond does die, this won't be the first in the series as DC's Bond died in Casino, but was brought back to life by Vesper. My theory about if he dies is that it would be how in one of the MI movies Ethan was thought to be dead too, but wasn't.
