NTTD garage scene, jeans identification

CommandantCommandant Posts: 1,374MI6 Agent

I'm starting this thread to try to identify the garage scene jeans

I saw the movie last Wednesday.

I'm pretty sure the jeans had a very dark brown leather tag at the back.

I'm not 100% sure, but the color looked dark navy and homogeneous ( no discoloration).

However, light can be misleading...

I have looked for dark brown leather jeans tags on the internet and found this TF model:

Please share your thoughts once you have seen the movie.

I count on the specialists to chip in 🥂

This pic below shows how light can create discoloration effects:

Great idea starting this thread Commandant. If they are TF jeans, the little black and white TOM FORD label on the right hand pocket opening would one of the markers to look out for. That was one of the ways the Jamaica jeans were identified if I remember correctly.

I do believe the jeans' ID is already known to some such as whatsdanielwearing.

hm I have seen the movie two times now and the brown leather tag doesn't look like suede leather to me which TF Models normally have

They are fleeting on screen, do we see the front, I thought only rear

Most TF jeans come with a 34 inseam.

This means that if you don't have too long legs, you have a lot of fabric to roll up.

This detail itself doesn't identify the jeans...

And yes M, we only see the rear of the jeans

The label looked like it was made in leather (TF labels are in suede or leather)...but I may be wrong

Unfortunately, Whatsdanielwearing doesn't mention the jeans

Thank you M, you are on a mission 👍

You have one second to check the jeans and the tag 😊

  • singhammersinghammer Posts: 108MI6 Agent

Just watched a second time and from my memory: brown leather tag, maybe a bit reddish brown, on the back,, definitely not suede. Also I think that I remember no stitching at all on any of the back pockets. Could have been removed of course. But if not that already rules out TF, Brunello, AG, Scotch, Frame, Levi’s and RnB. According to my girlfriend the general stitching was orange, which is pretty common for blue jeans.

Based on that description, here are some options (note that these are from this season so obviously the details won't be exactly the same as jeans from 3 or 4 seasons ago.

Drakes (suede patch, but maybe leather a couple of years ago?)

Canali (Craig was wearing Canali in that GQ 22 questions video)

Blackhorse Lane (obscure but high end and made in the UK)

    Tom Ford (duh)

Shockoe Atelier (again obscure, made in the US)

    Just some ideas ....

  • singhammersinghammer Posts: 108MI6 Agent

the Shockoe looks like a good match to me. Never heard of that brand. At least its a good direction. Looked very plain and simple to me.

Thank you John for your help!

The tag color was dark brown and I agree with Singhammer, it was in leather, not suede.

It was dark like the Canali tag (the TF suede label on your pic is too light IMHO).

    Cheers

I would agree with singhammer here that it is more a reddish brown rather than a dark brown. and I would also say that there was no stitching on the back pockets

the denim had a washed structure to me and I don't know if I use the term "washed" here correctly. that denim on the the 7 of all mankind QoS mercer jeans is darker to me but the structure was similar, it was not a clean blue or so. the structure was broken by more brigther yarns in my eyes, like:

maybe someone can confirm that impression, it is really hard to capture all the details in 2-3 seconds

It hardly needs repeating that the problem is we're looking for jeans that are almost 3 years old (as with all the pieces from the movie). I'm just trying to think of denim makers that a) have been consistent in their branding b) already have a known Bond connection (even, in the case of Drake's, with the new movie) and c) work from a costume design perspective (for example, they're already buying other items from that brand). That's why I think something like Drake's or Ford make the most sense. As for the denim itself, that texture you're describing sounds like a "slub" and it's pretty common. It would help to know if they were even selvedge, but I doubt we'll learn that directly from the movie.

I'm seeing the movie for the first time on Wednesday and hopefully I'll something of value to share after. Cheers!

It would indeed make sense to see a bond connection with existing brands.

The TF model (top of the thread) is similar to the light gray Jamaica model.

I also didn't see any stiching on the center of the back pockets.

I think this is still by far the best pic we have of the jeans, here's 2 differently coloured versions:

Let's nail down what we actually know for sure (or can be reasonably sure of) about the jeans so far.

    • Rear leather tag. brown or reddish brown
    • No rivets on (probably rear) pockets (according to user Seven in this thread, he also mentions they may be raw denim)
    • Lack of decorative stitching on rear pockets

    Some questions:

    • What is the actual colour? from the pics I've seen they look either grey, dark blue or something in between.
    • Could this be a rivet on front pocket? I mean what else could it really be?

100% blue also label on the more orange side of brown.

I was watching carefully for the jeans last night and I noticed 3 things that others have mentioned:

    • The mercer type effect as @Noi pointed out
    • The label on the back pocket had a slight shine (so definitely not suede) and I think was orangey brown
    • The lack of stiching on the back pockets

For the first time, when I saw the movie I'm thinking it was Levi's

  • singhammersinghammer Posts: 108MI6 Agent

Didn't know this, but there are AG jeans now without the decorative stitching on the back pockets:

  • JTullock23JTullock23 ArizonaPosts: 559MI6 Agent

I actually just purchased a pair of AG Jeans with no stitching on the back. I am not saying these are the ones in the film, but posting these for you all to look at. Since I haven’t seen the film yet I cannot weigh in on them. I will say that these jeans are the most comfortable jeans I own. They aren’t cheap, but I got a good deal on them. These are a little darker in reality than the photos appear

    Armani may also be possible

Strikes me that jeans are so similar looking, identifying the actual brand & model from a half-second of screen time will be very difficult.

Has anyone spoken with Suttirat Larlarb to see if she could shed any light on them? - I know a few members here are quite close to Jany Temime and Lindy Hemming, so possibly may have reached out to Suttirate too?

  • I haven't seen the film yet...but it sounds like everyone is describing a brand I bought back in the day...

they make raw selvedge jeans with no frills...they come in multiple weights and are actually quite nice.

The brand is called "the unbranded brand" ironically. I'll upload a photo.

  • canoe2canoe2 Posts: 2,007MI6 Agent

@MrE I really like Unbranded! I have a pair of their 21oz selvedge (it was a spur of the moment decision when I stupidly felt like I needed a challenge 🙄). But the fit is good and the quality was nice for the price. If we never learn the brand that Bond wears those would be a great alternative

  • canoe2,

Exactly what I was thinking, a great alternative. You got the 21oz?? Haha! Those are thiiiick. But if you ever ride motorcycles, I highly recommend them. Save your skin for sure haha

Probably great for riding once they break in a little. When they're new you can't bend your knees. Like wearing PVC pipes on your legs 😂.

But as you say. something like their taper fit in 11oz selvedge or 14.5oz selvedge for $88 to $110 would be a solid option

Here's the link in case anyone is interested

  • After looking at the pics of Bond in the garage. I think they could be raw selvedge denim, they look really stiff. Might be helpful to narrow it down by the brands that make raw selvedge denim? I think A.P.C. is another one...naked and famous...

Is this label leather or suede?

    Difficult to tell...

  • JTullock23JTullock23 ArizonaPosts: 559MI6 Agent

I’ve been eyeing some selvedge denim for some time. I’ve thought about it and will likely go with something that is adjacent to a Bond Brand like Rag & Bone, Levi’s, etc. Or, something adjacent to a clothing companies that provided clothing for one of my all-time favorite shows - Californication.

Californication definitely has introduced me to some good clothing lines.. The James Perse T-shirts are as good as Sunspel, OB etc... Great series..

    Fabric Geek/Denim Head ALERT!

I wrote an article for the my website on selvedge:

I do have a pair of R&B archive selvedge that I love. The only strong recommendation that I have is to pay attention to the rise of the jeans in different models. I like the R&B because they're a slim/taper but still have a decent amount of room in the top block. Wallace & Barnes (the J.Crew sub-line) also usually has some really nice Made in USA selvedge for reasonable prices (especially when you catch them on sale). Be aware that (in my experience) a good number of the Japanese brands tend to have very low rises. Levi's selvedge (usually LVC) is overpriced for what it is imho. And definitely check out Gustin! Solid quality and multiple fits at very reasonable prices.

    Cheers!
