Indeed Ed. More often than not I overly complicate things but on this occasion there’s not really any other way to do it. I have a feeling the original would have been custom made by someone who makes real artificial eyes, and the cost of them as you’ve probably already found out is hugely expensive.
This first attempt has room for improvement so it’s going to take a few tweeks to get it just right. Always a learning curve!
