Rod Serling did a terrific screenplay of this book for the Frank Sinatra movie of the same name…a real guilty pleasure piece of hokum…Jack Finney also wrote The Body Snatchers which was made into a wonderful film, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers directed by Don Siegel.
And two different covers for another book made into a great movie…
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
Odd coincidence department - the Bride and I were discussing "Gaslight" only yesterday. To be exact, the word's current usage versus it's original meaning, and how this came about. I told her about the play that has been filmed more than once, but didn't know that it had been novelised.
I note one of our own has his name credited above, Christopher Wood.
I once read the Robbins above, but can't remember a thing about it now. The Hamilton I know well. The cover of "Pal Joey" is trying very hard to suggest Sinatra, who starred in the film version, without actually saying so.
God picks!

I didn’t know about the Steptoe & Son books…it’s one of my favourite programs.
Very atmospheric covers. No prizes for knowing which is in my collection. I've read the Bradbury but haven't read any Heinlein although I know he's worth it.
I think you would enjoy Heinlein, Barbel, a true master of science-fiction. And another master of his own genre - hard-boiled mystery - is Dashiell Hammett, who I’m sure you’ve read some of - I can highly recommend all the following…
And these tv tie-in covers are nice…
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
Agatha Christie and Pan Books - a match made in heaven…
Michael Storme (real name George H Dawson), wrote hard boiled crime stories with an American setting and I can highly recommend them. Several of Storme’s novels in the ‘Make Mine’ series featured his private eye Nick Cranley. Much of his output featured the cream of contemporary British cover artists, including Reginald Heade and John Pollack. These covers are from early 1950’s editions…
And to finish off today’s selection a great tv tie-in…John Tiger’s real name was Walter Wager, his novel 58 Minutes was adapted into the movie DieHard2.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

Your powers of observation do you credit, Mr. Potts!
I wondered if you would spot that, I really should have known that you would ๐ธ
These two are always worth looking at…

A complete random selection…
And this one is filed under sleaze…or is it smut…or who actually cares?
That last one is filed under…my pillow, so the Mrs doesn’t find it ๐

A selection of noir pulps…
The good old days of Two Complete Novels! I still have one though it's SF rather than noir.
Of the above I've read only one, the Chandler of course. McGivern's good though, isn't he CHB?
Spine-chillers from the late, great Guy N Smith…
I’d no idea he’d written so many…I’ve read a couple of his ‘Crabs’ books…enjoyable enough…
I’ve read a handful of McGivern and can rate him highly.
Never read any of his. I've seen them on the shelves, of course, since I love perusing second hand bookshops (the best kind).
Good grief. Not much left to the imagination there.
Sci-fi and horror covers…
Some nice pulp covers there.
Witchcaft…
Noir…
Horror collections…
2 x Fantasy…
4 x Great covers…
These only turned up spasmodically and were well sought after…
The Matt Helm books were the opposite end of the spectrum to the Dean Martin movies…
And no apologies for the first edition of one of my top 10 favourite novels…

I do my best to post interesting pictures, but to compare me to God may be going a little to far ๐๐๐คฃ
That's going to be your new nickname now!
Some comic strip reprints in paperback form…
And three literary giants in their field…

Hammett I've read, but I'm a Chandler man of course. Nice pic of a young Clint in "Rawhide ".
I haven’t read any of those…but the covers are great ๐
I don't know what "unexpurgated" means, but I like the word anyway! (I'm scared to write "I like it" ๐คฃ)
It means uncensored, N24, right up your street ๐

I always thought Pan did great books covers…
Yes, those Christie ones are wonderful.
