@kadd's pair seem to have been from a retail source - an NB overstock in Italy. Which tantalisingly suggests there was once enough stock to have an over! But hens teeth is right.
I found a second hand pair two years ago from a seller in Italy, who had no idea what they were selling. However, they evidently do not wear well, as the fabric had already bobbled. These are not for sale - so don’t ask!

You can't buy them. Only two pairs have ever been found that I know of.

Were they ever available at retail then or just samples? It was never quite clear.

Are the oirignal trousers wool? Do they have a button pocket in the back?
