Despite it's three classic horror stars (who only appear briefly- eg Cushing has one scene and the other two aren't in it), "Scream And Scream Again" is no more than a curiosity. There is a good basic story, I think, but it's poorly handled. Our own Michael Gothard does well, though. However, the poster's great!
In the early 70’s the British film industry was in a parlous state, Hammer had gone to the wall and only the James Bond franchise was the only light at the end of the tunnel. So our great comedic and character actors were reduced to starring in cheap sex comedies to put bread on the table.
And then there were the British softcore sex movies - also sometimes with some household names…
At least a couple of our own in there as well.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
Unless I've missed someone, only Dustin Hoffman from the above is still alive and making films today. I remember being taken to see the first one above, and my father thinking it very boring and us leaving halfway through.
I think you may be right about Hoffman. And yes, Convoy was pretty boring, but Peckinpah had slipped into his drunken drug addled stage by then and any semblance of past glories had long since disappeared.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
Fun posters. CHB, have you ever seen "Matinee" in which John Goodman plays a very Castle-like character? I recommend it. The film-within-a-film which it contains ("Mant") is priceless to us lovers of B films (bee films...?).
This week’s “favourite” director is Jack Starrett, purveyor of many pulp exploitation movies with plenty of violent action. He was also an actor and probably his most well known role was Art Galt in First Blood.
Here are the posters of some of the films he directed.

This week’s spotlight falls on Richard Fleischer who directed many favourites across a wide range of genres. Here are just a few from his impressive filmography…

Some great films there, CHB…I’ve always loved TheVikings, I’ll watch it every time it’s on tv…plus Tora, Tora, Tora is a remarkable movie.

That’s interesting,Barbel, I’ll see if I can dig out any more early examples.
These would make a very good binge-watch this weekend 😁
Absolutely!

The best movie about the music industry ever made…
A rarity - a British western, made by horror outlet Tigon, this is a rough, tough, violent movie with a great cast…
Our friends from UNCLE…
And David Niven as…um…James Bond?
I love these!
Thanks for those, CHB….you've set me off down a (rather nice) rabbit hole 🤭
You’re welcome, gentlemen, I will try and dig up some more for next weekend.
I did love the 60’s spy craze!
That reminds me…I have Carry On Spying on my sky box, need to watch that again 👏🏻
The stupidity of the British censor is in full view here…an ‘X’ certificate even in those days was absurd…
This is certainly a contender for Best British Horror film…
One of the many Italian rip-offs during the 80’s…
Raquel Welch in her first leading role…
And what looks like a titillating exploitation movie is actually a decent thriller with some good performances…
A nice mixed bag there.
Atun Shei's Witchfinder General is also well worth watching! 😀

Bloody death and destruction were never far away from the films of Sam Peckinpah…

John Sturges is another one of my favourite directors…some of his, umm… magnificent work is below…
Some great movies and great posters there. Two Alistair MacLeans, as well.
Yea, some absolute stone cold classics in there…👏🏻
William Castle is another favourite of mine - producer and director of horror films with gimmicks for the cinema going public…

I have indeed seen that movie - and very good it is too - and a great poster!
Some great movies from the underrated director Andrew V McLaglen…
Haven't seen "The Last Hard Men", enjoyed "Chisum" very much.
I’d never even heard of that movie before 🤔 the rest I’ve seen, but not for a long time 🤭
The Last Hard Men is a terrific movie, mind you most things with James Coburn in is a good watch for me, it’s a violent, uncompromising western.
I watched Shenandoah and Wild Geese with my son last week, he really enjoyed them.

I can't help thinking about "Kentucky Fried Movie" on seeing the "Cleopatra Jones" poster ....
