Thunderball Censorship

As was the norm in those days, Eon sent a shooting script to the BBFC for advice on classification. Here are the notes…

It’s interesting that most of the initial concerns raised actually ended up in the final cut.

Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

Very interesting indeed…and I’m glad Eon stuck, largely, by their script. Thanks CHB 🍸

I don't know if this was ever discussed on here, but I am pretty sure I once saw a snippet on the BBFC concerning OHMSS. Apparently, when Ruby writes the "8" on Bond's leg at the dinner table, and Bunt asks if anything is the matter he was originally meant to just say "Just a slight stiffness coming on".

The BBFC objected to the line but suggested Bond could add "in the shoulder due to the altitude no doubt" to remove the sexual innuendo and that's what was put in the final version of the script.

Yes, that was discussed here though I can't remember when.

The most unnecessary addition until "And now we know what C stands for... careless." 😂

My...what would they have to say about today's British television?

I guess the issue there is that the original line isn’t much of a double entendre at all: more of a single one!
