„Pure“ gold (999,9% of the alloy is finegold) is - as microjiff correctly said - very soft but pretty easy to handle for goldsmiths. However, it‘s very soft, so clients would complain all the time about dings, bends and scratches.
That‘s one of the reasons, why most precious metal items contain only 75 (weight)% of finegold, the rest is silver, copper and other metals.
In the jewellery trade most of the prestigious manufacturers like H. Winston, Tiffany‘s Cartier as a standard are using 750/1000 of finegold and that equals to 18ct.
In many markets, gold jewellery can be had with a lower content of finegold - such as 333/ (8ct.) or 585/ (14 ct).
Italians on the contrary regard anything less than 750/ not being „true gold“
So 18ct gold is considered to be a very high quality of „gold“ (precisely it‘s a gold alloy) and that is reflected in the MR conversation.

Yeah, you nutters go ahead and watch Timmiboy popping balloons , weeping some teddybear tears and teaming up with the Taliban - while I enjoy a phantastic movie called Moonraker 🍻

Did you think the B had a red button?
no.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
I must slightly correct myself:
According to JBL, the Minox used in OHMSS is a Minox A/III
Minox A, B and C here
Minox B apparently had a lightmeter which made the camera larger.
Here a rare export black Minox IIIs for USA
Minox B was also available in black

Reliable sources have advised me that Higgins originally pushed for the Moonraker camera to be made in green but he was out-voted.
Did someone say cigarette case?
You kept that one quiet 😁
Higgins and voting, he only has a postal vote 🤣
That's terrific! 😀
I hope you have a disgustingly graphic image of a beating heart for the "you have a heart of gold" moment..? 😂
Am I right in thinking the sliver cover to the gadget bit impossibly disappears in the film?
Sure he said heart of silver.....

The bit that gets me about that scene is she says '18 carat' and I always think she's selling herself a bit short- why not 24? 😊
Because 18 is actually better than 24, from a jewellers perspective.

Really? I didn’t know that.
24 is considered too soft for jewellery making by some jewellers. So while 24 is most pure, 18 is more practical.

That makes sense. Not very romantic to have a practical heart though! 😄
Still, it's been irradiated by 007's gadget now so it probably wasn't going to last long anyway 😁
Amazing work, super impressed! A great little gadget
Allow me a comment about 18ct vs. 24 ct.
