What is the measurement of the armpit to armpit of the Medium Army sweater when laying flat? It seems a lot of people get the size wrong the first time around. Thanks!
Unfortunately due to the increasing charges for returning items from outside the UK, returns for ALL international orders must be made at your own cost. Very very nice and luxurious. Fabric is lovely and it really fits well.
Its not a ‘slim fitting’ shirt. I can see why they tailored it a little to make it a bit more fitting. Quite boxy and baggy at the waist.
Unlike the RB henley, sleeves are shorter fitting.
Plans:
take this to my tailor at the weekend and have him look at taking it in at the waist and chopping off the sleeves. I think it’ll be nice as a short sleeve.
Its so crazy that we all are talking about buying such a luxury shirt, removing the sleeves to make them shorter and then tailoring the body as well, etc. It is almost as if we are chatting about a suit. But we aren’t. So strange.

For brands, changing something like a house suit pattern is very complicated. Even collared shirts and trousers can be a challenge to modify. But something like a henley? That should be relatively easy in comparison. IMHO, if A&S can do it, they should announce a more screen accurate varient in a slimmer fit with hemmed rather than ribbed sleeve cuffs ASAP. Call it the "Matera Linen Henley" or whatever so they don't step on any toes.
Yes, linen will shrink. How much will depend on the quality of the linen and how the fabric was treated before the garment was made. Cheaper shorter staple fiber linen will shrink more (especially in a looser weave). Just like with cheap cotton, wool or cashmere. Higher quality, longer staple fibers (as I imagine A&S used) will shrink less. But even with cold washing and laying it flat to dry, you can expect 3% to 5% shrinkage in the material. And a knit material is more difficult to "pre-shrink" than a woven fabric (like you see used for shirts or jackets). So unless the actual yarn was prepared properly (and again, I'd assume A&S would use high quality yarns), it's possible you could get up to 8% to 10% shrinkage. Best bet to avoid shrinkage is to have it dry cleaned at a reputable shop. If you do want to wash it at home, use very cold water, a little bit of liquid detergent and some fabric softener (to keep the fibers supple). Than lay flat to dry and shape it as you would a wool sweater.
Right! “You sent how much on this and you want me to do what?” I can’t imagine the tailoring costs would be cheap either. This could end up being a $500 Henley for some people.

I know during pandemic it might have been hard to make some adjustments to a staple item like a Henley with many companies being shutdown. One has to believe A&S knew their Henley was going to be in the film at some point in the past few years. The delays due to pandemic could have actually afforded them the time needed to make the adjustments necessary in order to have it ready for the release of NTTD.

Wait, you guys are saying that they run very boxy and bigger. Yet the sizing here seems like its very slim fitting pit to pit, anyone that have a Large and XL? Seems like their pit to pit measurements are way off
The arm measurements on the henley also seem way off. Are they measuring underarm sleeve length instead of outer sleeve length? Also their "center back of neck to end of sleeve" seems to be several inches too short.
If these measurements were accurate there is no way the sleeves would hang below the hem of the garment.
Sorry to come back to the A&S Henley, but I had a question/thought: are we absolutely sure it's the Linen version? They do a cotton version in white that is almost exactly the same design:
The Rake has better close up photos of the fabric and the collar (Cream Linen on top, white cotton below)
I'm still just thrown off by the color of Bond's shirt in the set photos. It looks "white" white to me (not ivory or bone or cream or natural or whatever you want to call that linen color). I know were nearly 100% certain it's the Linen (and photos with different lighting can shift colors). But my gut feeling is A&S got caught a little off-guard by their shirt being in the movie. Any chance they made a mistake in identifying which one was actually used?

I received a medium today. I will take measurements for people.
From a quick try on, it fits like a bog standard medium T-shirt. I take medium in OB, NPeal and all the others.
To clarify, that’s medium AS Henley…
Medium was way too tight for me in OB, so that is a sigh of relief! Thank you.
Also A&S added a size chart for the henley and it looks like it runs pretty small! Maybe Mr Porter was accurate afterall...
Is anyone buying an A & S long sleeve henley and getting the sleeves shortened or are people waiting for the short sleeve version?
I plan on having the sleeves shortened. I think the finish will be different from a ‘cuffed’ short sleeve version they do.
NPeal has free returns no? I'd check on that mate.
my medium measures bang on to their sizing chart here.

Not anymore..

A few notes on the Henley:
Plans:
The Medium is 19.5"/49.5cm
The Large is 21.25"/54cm
what is the waist measurement of the medium? Always baffles me, how they never include that on sizing charts...

Trigger, not sure how my last comment quoted your post. Sorry about that.

I was thinking the same thing. Imagine the tailors face!

Does anyone know if knitted linen will stretch or shrink over time with use and washes?
Just to add to the sizing confusion... I measured a size Small rag and bone henley, and armpit to armpit was 20.5 inches, the same
measurement as the size Large A&S henley according to their sizing chart...
Fabric geek to the rescue! 😁

Christ, if those are the measurements, I need XXL.. I'm always L in US sizing..
Thanks John. Very insightful as always!

Tommy Bahama website seems to be down all day. Bet it's the first time they've had this kind of demand!

Good on the chest, boxy on the waist. There’s no tapering to the top. My pit to pit Medium measured 20”

They have measured weird things in my opinion.
Sleeve Length = Pit to Cuff
Centre Neck back to Cuff = Centre of Neck to Sleeve Cuff.
Measurements of a medium match those.
Waist = 20"
The Rag and Bone Henley is huge in size.
I bought one and it’s too big for me so I’m going to sell it.
It’s a medium, fits Large and never worn.
I’ll take £50.
I’ll stick a thread up with photos shortly but if anyone sees this and wants in first. Drop me a DM.
