Would'nt gun bluing work just as well. It is what the stuff is designed for.
Touch Up Gun Blue is acidic that reacts to steel and will not be effective on silver. Professional gun blue is caustic and will clean your silver, but not blacken it. Either will spoil the innards of your lighter.
I could not wait for my jeweler to oxidize my lighter, so I purchased some german silver black oxidizer and voila. I tried liver of sulpher in the past with not very good results. Anyway here are the pictures:

It’s a gold plated Dunhill Sports Unique circa 1998 to 2001. A similar model with tighter pin stripes was used briefly in TND but no other Bond film.
