The two gorillas on either side of the safe reminds me of the classic mirror scene from the Marx brothers' Duck Soup. (Sorry, I know I'm probably a few minutes behind you Barbel and Shady Tree.)
The film has an unusual structure in that it delivers some significant extended scenes after its obvious action climaxes... in the prison, the conspiracy between Dala and Simone, then the courtroom scene...
The way Dala schemes and plots to frame Clouseau... our final impression of her is how devious she is...
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.
So we end with Clouseau being taken off to jail, and at the start of the next one he's back on the force- the first instance of this series being very loose with the continuity.
John Le Mesurier is superb here. (He was good at courtroom stuff... he once played a character *in* the dock for a Christmas special of 'Crown Court', as I recall)

This is quite a cruel ending for Clouseau, I feel... though there's a bit of dialogue between Capucine and Niven to suggest that he'll be released before long. The adulation Clouseau begins to enjoy when he's thought to be the Phantom... ironically it reflects Sellers' own new-found fame courtesy of his part in this film and his ascendancy as an unlikely sex symbol.

Yes, I'd be interested in watching 'A Shot In The Dark' next, and 'The Magnificent Seven' at some point. I'd personally be less sold on 'Johnny English'.

The guy trying to cross the road- surely an influence on Victor in the later Bond movies?
Hey Shady- great minds think alike!

Mancini gives it 'the full Key Stone Cops' before we get to the old guy and the roaring engines, hooting horns and screeching tyres
:-) :-)
We always have this- usually it's me.
The soundtrack cue is called 'Shades of Sennett' so it certainly wears that influence on its sleeve.
Another favourite moment of mine...when Clouseau shoves both fists into the bowls of porridge. 🤣
If only all home video formats played at the same speed 🙄

John Le Mesurier as the defence lawyer...later to appear with Sellers and Niven in Casino Royale '67.

Continuity? What is that?
Not that this is unusual with a long film series....
Something we don't worry about much as Bond fans!
The Panther is a bloody big stone to carry around in your breast pocket without noticing it. 😏
Well, I've had a very enjoyable evening- thank you to everyone!

Thanks watchalongers!
Now to bed...I've got to get up bloody early and run up a mountain tomorrow morning.
Yes, very enjoyable... fun to watch this together. Thanks to N24 and sorry about his disc issue!
Good luck! :-) :-)
Looks like you're having fun! I'm compensating by watching a movie titled "Ninjababy". It's different type of comedy from Pink Panther....
I look forward to the next one, which I guess will be The Magnificent Seven based on our previous discussions.
Whatever the next movie is, I'll have to find it, frame it and hang ut up on the wall!
Best to get a projector and a 35mm print in. Harder to mislay.
You underestimate my abilities to mislay. "Lisence to mislay" 🤣
Now it's time to talk about what to watch next. I suggest a spy/ Bond spoof, perferably a Jonny English movie.
Higgins and I have been talking- how about "A Shot In The Dark", the immediate sequel to "The Pink Panther"? It's a logical choice.
