I've reworked the post on Bond's Skyfall peacoat with new alternatives. As I note in the article, the current trend in peacoat design is swinging back to the more traditional. So boxier cuts and more dramatic collars. But there are still some solid options:
Morning everyone! Another post re-work, this time on McQueen's Thomas Crown Affair Aran knit sweater. I've add new options and a whole new section on the sweater Chris Evan's wore in Knives Out since it's a more modern fit.
On Sunday I have a GIANT post coming on Shearling jackets, covering the styles worn by Craig, McQueen, Delon and Redford. I'm really excited about that one! And then later next week it's back to Bond for some Christmas themed posts. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up on what's coming.
Morning everyone! Got an absolute MONSTER of a post today, covering everything I could find about sheepskin and shearling jackets. Lots of Daniel Craig, McQueen, Delon, Redford. I looked at alternatives for sheepskin bombers, ranch coats (I think some of you call them Del Boys?) and G-1s. And a bit of a How To guide for identifying quality sheepskin jackets
Massimo Dutti just released a Navy Blue Suede Jacket which i think is a really nice alternative to the SPECTRE one.
I already have the alternative from Wested but i checked the Massimo Dutti version in person yesterday and the quality of the suede is much better (feels softer to the touch and drapes nicer). The only major omission is the sleeve zippers but this is something i can live without.
I’d been after a sheepskin for a couple of years but with lockdown didn’t ‘press the button’ last winter. However, I kept an eye on things and managed to snag a really nice 70’s vintage, thigh length coat on ebay for £55/$80 - and it’s awesome! Still soft, luxurious and keeps me so warm.
Had I not gone down that route already, undoubtedly I would have been looking at a new coat based on your recommendations - but ebay really is a great option if you can find a store that can give you accurate measurements.
Great find! And I know exactly what you mean. I am in the market for a bomber. But I already have a vintage Sawyer of Nappa ranch coat that I picked up at a thrift store for $10.00. To buy the same coat today would cost $1500 to $2000 or more, since it's made in the U.S.A. And it looks exactly like the coats that are being made today. That's why I included that section at the end of the post about shopping for a used one.
Great find. With the sleeve zipper missing it can be a budget alternative to Ethan Hunt's John Varvatos jacket at the end of Mission Impossible: Fallout.
Hi - I know a bunch of you , including myself have got the Studio Suits alternative to the Matera sloop suit. Studio Suits also do a decent cheap alternative to the Connolly x Finamore linen shirt for AUD$55:-
@canoe2 Huckberry has released the Wills Aran Cable Crew. The description says it was styled after Steve McQueen in The Thomas Crown Affair. It's priced at $188 and is 100% Patagonian wool.
@Westward_Drift Thanks! I saw that in an email yesterday morning. Talk about perfect timing! 3 days after I publish the post on the damn sweater! 😂
Made in Vietnam though. For $190 you can get a really nice version of the real deal, hand-made in Ireland. But I'll definitely add it to the list, with credit to you for the find. Cheers!
As i dont want to ruin my skyfall gazelles and its so hard to find the jack purcel otrs - i purchased navy white gazelle and white jack purcel and painted then myself hehe
TL;DR version: they're really, really nice! Price may raise some eyebrows. But folks did just spend $150 on N&F denim and these are much better quality.
New post is up: using Bond's Casino Royale peacoat as a launching point, it's a bit of an exploration of the classic peacoat design. So a look at Redford, McQueen, Cruise, etc wearing it and (of course) plenty of alternatives.
Happy Sunday! We have a new post: to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, our friend Jesse MacLeod reviews Daniel Craig's style from the film:
I had a lot of fun writing that, and am really impressed with how many great alternatives you were able to find John. Lots of new potential Christmas gifts to myself 😂. Cheers!
Thank you for this one! The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is such a masterpiece of costuming. The looks are so interesting but seem (unlike the Bond films if we’re being honest) like they came out of one man’s closet. Just from a style perspective, it is a shame it wasn’t the start of a trilogy!
Just wanted to wish the incredible community here a joyous and healthy festive season. Thank you all for the support, fun times and great conversation! And a special thanks to @Sir Miles and @SiCo for keeping this the #1 place for us Bond fans!
Cheers and may Santa bring you everything on your Wish List!
Thank you for the acknowledgment but it’s @SiCo and @Barbel that deserve the praise…but mainly it’s down to the members of AJB and the community spirit that keep this place what it is 🍸

Of course it drops right after you publish your guide.

You got the email too. No need for credit.

@Hart008 Those turned out great! Will look even better with some wear and tear on them! 😁

TL;DR version: they're really, really nice! Price may raise some eyebrows. But folks did just spend $150 on N&F denim and these are much better quality.

Hi all!
New post is up: using Bond's Casino Royale peacoat as a launching point, it's a bit of an exploration of the classic peacoat design. So a look at Redford, McQueen, Cruise, etc wearing it and (of course) plenty of alternatives.
If anyone has any experience with the options I shared, I'd love to hear about them!
Cheers!

I had a lot of fun writing that, and am really impressed with how many great alternatives you were able to find John. Lots of new potential Christmas gifts to myself 😂. Cheers!
Thanks again, Jesse!
Looking forward to this, John! This is always my "first Nor'easter snowstorm" movie of the winter every year.
Morning! New take on an old post: Our James Bond Holiday Party Style Guide. Hard to believe, but I first published this 5 years ago today!
Have a great day, everyone!
John

Glad you enjoyed, my friend! Jesse @JMac88 really did a great job with the writing!
Cheers!

Season's Greetings! Part 2 of the James Bond Holiday Style Guide is now up! Featuring Dalton, Brosnan and Craig

Thanks for reminding me, @Sir Miles , my apologies for forgetting to give @Barbel the well deserved credit!
New post: non-Bond but still iconic. The Paul Newman Rolex Daytona
Hope everyone had an awesome holiday!
John
Thank you, but as @Sir Miles says all praise to our members.
Dear Sir,
shouldn’t the TUDOR be also considered?
