Bonds Dagger in tactical rig NTTD

TennysonTennyson A View to a KillPosts: 606MI6 Agent

Did the ‘dagger’ get identified at all, I know we all wished for a Fairburn Sykes, but It looks more like some kind of bayonet rather than a dagger

Handle and hilt look FS no?

  • MANDY1MANDY1 TISPosts: 2,608MI6 Agent

I think we need ultra-HD screencaptures, well I do at least as my eyesight ain't as good it used to be LOL

At first i thought it could have been vintage Gerber MK II, but no. Was also hoping for FS 🙂

I’ve been interested in this for a while and watched the movie the second time hoping to catch identifying details. It doesn’t help that Bond never actually uses the knife, and I even had the sense there might be continuity errors: shots where he is not wearing it at all!

Fairbairn Sykes has become a shorthand for a style of fighting knife (the way AK has become a shorthand for a style of rifle) so you see lots of interpretations on the essential design. The main issue here is length because that pocket can’t accommodate a lot of daggers on the market. Less than seven inches, I’d say.

The likelihood, of course, is that it’s just a rubber blade because why make Craig wear an actual weapon?

There are few similarities to Böker Applegate-Fairbairn combat knives, though the blade-guard doesn't match with that above screencapture.

Hey Asp, care to share the details 😉 What is that?

No idea. No manufacturers marks on it at all. Same model as the one from Casino Royale I was told.

That's cool, thanks 🙂 although weird choice imo for Bond's combat carry.

Yeah, they’re very techy and modern. A 3rd pattern FS would have been a great choice.

Thanks @Asp9mm, any chance there could have been 2 used, as to my early morning eyes, it doesn’t look like the same as the blurry picture I found.. seems like there is a rivet or hole on the handle, and the guard seems to have distinct handle facing curves… (apologies for my poor nomenclature!)

  • MANDY1MANDY1 TISPosts: 2,608MI6 Agent

Tennyson is that pic a screencapture from digital release or just pic from the net?

Agreed, that pic there's definitely a hole or rivet. And also as you said the blade-guard have curved edges towards the handle, unlike in many known tactical combat knives the guard edges are facing down towards the blade. Also by judging the above pic, the handle itself looks very different.

Found it on the net, generic publicity shot I think from Danner

Oh, i see. I've tried to scroll the NTTD digital release to get decent screencapture of Bond's leg from the assault scene to Safin's lair, but with no luck. I do trust Asp's knowledge on these things, so could it be just another blade used for publicity shots?

Perhaps the ultra high def release will get us more sharp images :)

Agreed, Fairbairn-Sykes would have been epic, even more if Bond would have used it in combat.

Sorry, I wasn’t quite clear in my original post. It’s not that exact knife model, but the same maker. Whoever that was I have no idea as there is no brand or marking on it whatsoever.

What about his desk drawer one too? Top right.

  • TennysonTennyson A View to a KillPosts: 606MI6 Agent

Thanks for the clarification @Asp9mm, makes semse now. @redsleighdown , looks like a KaBar of some type, different from the one on the tactical phase

Bond's desk drawer knife's handle definitely has the looks of a vintage WW Ka-bar, bit of a missed opportunity here as Again it should've been a Fairbairn-Sykes imo...

Edit: I wonder If Asp9mm has even better quality pic of the behind-the-scene shot available?

OK, those were the easy ones! Let's see ASP tackle this one: The folder Bond uses to peel and cut an apple with for Mathilde?

It’s pure speculation but perhaps the knives used in the Gettler scene and Bonds combat get-up in NTTD were delivered wiped clean of any makers marks because they didn’t have any official product placement arrangement in place?

My hunch is that neither were of any mainstream make but whatever was available.

I’m leaning towards a Blackhawk for this based on shape.

scratch that, handle doesn’t match at all.

The desk drawer knife looks like an odd one doesn't it. The picture from the Making of No Time To Die book isn't as clear as we'd like of course. The grip kind of looks like the USAF Survival knife made by Camilus/Ontario knife company, but it only has one side guard ?. The pommel looks like the pilot knife's hexagon shape, and the knurled grip looks like a Ka-Bar Mk2 / Pilot knife. My guess is it could be an old Mk1 or Mk2 Ka-Bar or something similar , but in a replacement sheath. I love the fact that he has an old military knife tucked in his top drawer. Nice touch. Wonder if we'll see the actual prop ?

That would then make it a Case Quartermaster knife.

As a side, I have that exactly same waiters corkscrew that's on the desk... I guess that's something. 😁

If you look at the handle's knurled grip 73, effectively 5 or maybe 6 thick leather 'bands' and the pommel, which kinda looks angled / hexagon (hard to make out) i think it eliminates the Casexx, but wow its very very close. The handle seems to be a Ka-bar / USAF pilot knife variant, but it'll be interesting to find out what it actually is

Yeah, maybe it's same pattern - different manufacturer / repro. Cattaragus produced similar knife. Also we can't rule out modded recent manufacture for example from Ontario mfg. The grooves on the handle is only a matter of how the washers were cut / staked, so different manufacturers / manufacture dates have an effect on that.

The pommel looks like something that's meant to be screwed off. It reminds me of the infamous Aitor Jungleking 1. Anyways, the handle, sheath and pommel look very much like the ones on Hackman Survival knife from the Vietnam war era, as hard to find collectibles, it would be right up the alley for this type of production. http://cutlerscove.com/survival-knives/hackman.htm The cross guard on the other hand is wrong.

It could be modded M3 Bayonet with lower cross guard milled off. The WW2 US fighting knives is a rabbit hole I managed to escape years ago, and I do not wish to go back there.

"The WW2 US fighting knives is a rabbit hole I managed to escape years ago, and I do not wish to go back there." 😀 I hear you brother. I saw the picture the other day and thought "Why hasn't Bond got an old Royal Navy Diving Knife in a rubber scabbard in his drawer" which lead to an hour of looking at naval diving knives again 😓

Please can you tell us where the corkscrew is from? I've also had a look at different places for the bottle opener, which I'm interested in, but haven't found one like it.

  • 00730073 COPPosts: 1,061MI6 Agent

Hi, I don't think I can help you with that.

It's the same story as with my haul of the Duralex Picardies, it came to me from the estate of my late grandmother some 20 years ago, who made her life's work in restaurant business.

It is a variation on the so called "waiters corkscrew", mine is an unbranded copy of the Pulltex Pulltaps. It differs from the original with thicker end of the handle. Google around similar models should not be too difficult to find.
