Most Egregious Bond Lifestyle Tie-in
HalfMonk HalfHitman
USAPosts: 2,353MI6 Agent
As we've chased down, bought, worn, sold, rebought, revisited the various grail items and aspirational bits of kit associated with this hobby, some of it has missed the mark by a considerable margin.
What, to you, is the most egregious, out-of-line, ridiculous bit of luxury Bond Lifestyle merchandise?
I've got to go with - and I say this as a collector of Omegas - the Commander watch:

It was, without a shadow of doubt and by a gigantic margin, the ....
Craig Bond popsicle
Sticking to the OMEGA theme, I would say these;

I'll file a minority report here but I'd say basically anything by Orlebar Brown.
Not a fan either, but I'm surprised how many people love this design...
Not that it’s exactly “luxury”…
Yeah it's funny, I love seeing the 007 logo on a film poster, but put it on any product at all and it looks naff as hell. It works on toys but I don't think there's anything which it actually makes look more sophisticated, unless anyone can think of anything...?
The only things I like with it on are T-shirts where it's big and retro and cheesy.
The Bollinger Special Cuvée 007 is cringeworthy IMO.
I share emtiem’s distaste for logoed merch in general though. I can’t get past the shameless marketing vibe that completely removes the “secret” from the whole secret agent concept.
On the other hand, although it's also quite cheesy, I do love the Spectre Octopus logo from 2015 and am happy to buy that on most things :D
I think the main difference is the octopus is seen on screen-used props. One could totally imagine Spectre branding pretty much anything kinda like the Nazis did.
Yes that's true; although I was in TK Maxx the other day and couldn't resist £3 for a heat-revealing Spectre mug 😁
And I'm not convinced that Blofeld was dishing them out in the crater base!
They've had more "misses" than "hits" in their capsule collections, imo. Aree with you part-way on this, as there are 1-2 things I like. Any company that tries to slap 007 branding on everything and uncharge like crazy on items not even in the films does get a bit ridiculous.
We should probably start a thread about what our dream bit of 007 merch would be.
S.T. Dupont items are ridiculously overpriced. We're talking four-five figures here for cuff links, a pen and a lighter. And for me, they don't have the appeal of the colourful toy merch you used to be able to buy.
But they weren’t necessarily overpriced on release, they’ve just gotten that way. I think cufflinks were around £150 on release, also a nice subtle Bond nod if wearing a suit.
I'm on the same page, I think a lot of their items are over-priced for what they are. The James Bond license just adds to the already high prices.
On the top of my list!
Michael Kors stuff is pretty balls
Aw, I kind of love that someone actually made that! And I'm sure the folks that bought it love it.
Selling for USD 800 on Ebay...
there can be only one...and the winner must be; every brand who has re-released a 'screen worn' item, marketed it as a Bond item, wanged on endlessly about how it was worn in the film but has in fact made loads of changes to the item in question for no apparent reason. 'Well, yeah, of course we changed all the buttons, added a zip fly, shoulder pads, made the red stripe yellow and doubled the price...also it's now an inflatable kayak not a polo shirt...is that an issue?'
I am the worst kind of enabler for the above but really, far more respect for the brands that go "00what? Sir I am afraid we don't go in for 'popular culture'. I must advise you, we have released the hounds..."
I note the edition on the 007 store £25,000 gold zippo has ticked over from 001/007 to 002/007...which made me think of this thread.
you seen the bargain 007 teddy bear?
surely the instagram freebie influencers cant blow smoke up EONs arse with this one 😂
Polo Bear did it better (back in the early 1990s) ...
You overlooked that it's the same size as DC...and the jacket and tie are Tom Ford. Just a pity that the shirt is M&S.
Ended up buying the Safin themed Adidas Ultraboost, as they were on sale by quite a huge amount, actually a really nice subtle Bond nod without shiny big logos
Oh I don’t know, the majority of these influencers are fairly shameless, if it means getting one for the collection…
Would have liked one. How I hate it, when sth as these is sold out on the first minute.
:(
I think the most egregious goes to the $125,000 mini DB-5, aka the DB-5 Junior NTTD Edition.
Hilarious! That used to be T&A’s attitude back in the day, before they got on the 007 bandwagon.
Slightly odd to me they didn't do an official Dou-dou, copyright issues maybe, but have done this...
