Went to pick my items up yesterday - piton gun and LALD flute and wasn’t impressed. The individual working in the Bond section upstairs handed me the flute and asked if it was real flute and a real radio. I explained it’s a prop - she bloody works there valuing the items.
Similar issues needing something shipped from them before and they said because of the value they wouldn’t ship. I ended up using one of their recommended couriers who were fine but the item wasn’t even wrapped/protected.
Let us never forget these are the same auctioneers who accepted provenance for the Spectre shirt that was a printed photo of an entirely different shirt! 🤣
I don't think they are Bond specialists in any way, they've just spotted a lucrative niche.
The staff at the OMEGA shop hinted that there might be a commercial version released later. They had said they'd contact me but never heard anything further.
I wrote Williams a couple of emails, phoned (just rang, no VoiceMail), even went by his studio ... nothing.
What's sort of stupid is, if you've ever been in their place, it's awash in China and bric-a-brac so to say it's too fragile or whatever is nonsense; it's the sort of stuff they deal with day-to-day.
I haven't seen the book in person, but I can well imagine that it is lovely given how good Greg Williams' work is. That said, The £8.5k price is a bit crazy. The £5k at the charity auction is one thing (odd things happen at charity auctions due to booze, excitement, and occasionally philanthropy!), but £8.5k is a bit silly. They printed 800 (or was it 1000?) of them which is quite a lot. If you compare it to the Day of the Dead poster from Spectre signed by Sam Mendes which had a similar run, I believe, I don't think any of those sold for more than £1,500 and I've seen them go for as little as £300. Plus, I agree that there's at least a chance that this will be re-printed in a non-limited edition and while these will always be valuable by virtue of being a limited edition for cast and crew, once the contents are less exclusive, the value will be affected I am sure.
yes, well...the art world is full of dodgy characters! 🤣
I should add having seen the shirt whilst there and watching @The Bond Vivant 's excellent video I have no doubt the shirt was made for production and may even have been warn by DC, possibly even on screen. It is just the fact there was no supporting evidence to confirm this at all (given the provenance is a picture of DC in an entirely different shirt) and it was heavily weighed upon in the marketing and sales patter, which is why it matters.
Those who bid were kind to Andy's estate and appreciated, I'm sure--but I went through the results and they seemed low overall with just a few standouts.
I put a call out asking my FB friends if anyone was passing near the auction house and might mind picking up the Bollinger. Got it collected Tuesday by a friend who was working half an hour away and took a detour on my behalf - always worth asking!
I remember talking to Andy about the KPOS when he came to collect his lasermic in person from me. We assembled it in my lounge for the first time and it was a pretty impressive piece. The £2k it went for seems reasonable to me given the rarity of the KPOS. Factor in the cost of the lasermic, the pop up sights and the glock and it’d probably cost the £2k to get everything you need. The massive bonus being though that all the hard work is done in putting it together. Plus there’s only 3 of the lasermics in existence, aside from the production made ones of course.
I agree with you about the replicas and the items hard to ship. I felt like the artwork and etc. went for low pricing--it seems like pricing has been higher for all kinds of collectibles including Bond since late last year.

Seems pretty outrageous - they clearly detail shipping in the terms.
I am going in to collect lots next week. Will send you a dm in case it helps.

True

I’d think twice before I bought a Picasso from them then

I think many of us know who put these lots up and can put you in direct contact.
Was interested in the WA2000 myself ostensibly for the accessories (already have the gun) but there's the rub:
One of the scopes can't be exported out of the UK.
(Wasn't clear there was a reserved on this; good to know it didn't go for a pittance.)
I got a MEBE on eBay some time back; not impossible to find.
I was the [pleasantly surprised] speargun winner.
Ewbank's recommend an MBE in Guildford who normally do an excellent job of packing and are actually fairly reasonable.
Ewbank's have since begun doing some in-house shipping of smaller pieces; they've done a good job but aren't cheap.

Unclear if you mean the pieces were disappointing or solely the staff behavior was.
Thanks, to clarify I am absolutely delighted with the items. The lack of staff insight/knowledge surprised/disappointed me.

Per the Ewbank's description, 1000.
Thanks PoorMan, I knew I'd read it somewhere but the heat is making me lazy 😁

I highly recommend The Lost Leonardo film if you want to laugh aloud at auction hijinks: https://www.sonyclassics.com/film/thelostleonardo
. . . Although the laughs are because a lot of auction houses do the same moves.
I don't think any auction house keeps a Bond expert on staff although some rely on some here at AJB.

I think bidders were all too aware that certain items, the Glock for example, would be difficult to export and hence effectively stayed away.
In my estimation bidding was, for the most part, healthy given the sale was largely replicas.
