Poulter is tall and fit enough, and is a good actor but sorry, his face while maturing, still looks like Howdy Doody to me (for those not familiar with Howdy Doody; he was a red haired freckled cowboy puppet from a very popular children's TV show of the same name that ran on American TV for 1947-1960).
I would be more than fine with Cavill or Hoult. Cavill has become a good actor with screen presence and charisma and certainly would fit the mold of a more classic "Cinematic" Bond. Hoult, who has really grown into his looks might be a bit of a "riskier" choice (especially those who are just familiar with his juvenile and teen roles) but also could be perceived as a bit more of a "serious dramatic" actor than Cavill which seems to appeal to Barbara Broccoli these days. Plus, at 32 he's 7 years younger than younger than Cavill and would probably come a bit cheaper. That being said, Cavill was only second to Craig when they were casting CR.
Of course, the reality is we will probably end up with someone completely off the radar screen. I think we only get a "name" if EON / MGM / Amazon enter into a deal with Christopher Nolan to write and direct a trio of Bond films (but strangely enough for some reason I don't think it would be Tom Hardy as Bond; maybe Hardy as the villain). I have seen some totally unsubstantiated rumors on the 'net based upon "unnamed sources" that it isn't a matter of "if" Christopher Nolan makes a Bond film or films, just a matter of "when".
"Hoult, who has really grown into his looks might be a bit of a "riskier" choice but also could be perceived as a bit more of a "serious dramatic" actor than Cavill which seems to appeal to Barbara Broccoli these days."
The upcoming RENFIELD might put some cold water on that "serious dramatic" vibe...
Will Poulter would make a great Bond villain. A compelling character actor, he was chilling in Kathryn Bigelow's 'Detroit' and in the TV series 'Gotham'; he also plays a memorable supporting role in Ari Aster's 'Midsommar', a stunning folk horror movie, starring Florence Pugh, which is one of the most affecting movies I've seen in recent years.
I 'd feel more keen on seeing Ms Pugh in a future Bond movie or movies than on any particular casting of Bond. Post #557 does nothing to change that :-) :-) :-)
If Ram Charan was the next Bond - good call! - it might mean that they were going again for a Pierce Brosnan-type vibe, but with Daniel Craig-level physicality as a bonus. Bollywood and Telugu cinema have a thus far untapped potential for casting in Bond, at least since Aishwarya Rai was under serious consideration as a Bond girl. On the basis of their Billa movies, Anushka Shetty or Naryanthara would have made fantastic Bondian femmes fatales!
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.
Yes I agree, that was my reaction on seeing Little Drummer Girl in fact; I'd not heard of her before (also she wasn't an unknown it turns out) and I thought 'wow she's a proper star'- one of those actors who makes it look easy. I thought it was rather telling that she blew Scarlet Johanssen off the screen in her own Black Widow film, but I hope she doesn't get stuck in Marvel.
I keep hoping to come across an actor who produces that reaction in me for a potential Bond (and I do remember that feeling having checked out a few more Craig performances not long after he was cast- particularly Layer Cake which is obviously quite Bondy) but no-one quite has yet.
He's young, But (unfortunately) doubt we'll see a new Bond movie in less than four years, and by then he'll be near the age Connery and Lazenby were when they started. Elordi also looks like a man in a time when many in their thirties look like teenagers.
In fairness to Fleming, no one else saw Connery coming either (except Cubby and Harry). The casting of Connery was one of the great moments of utter brilliance (along with hiring Terrence Young to direct, Ken Adam as Production Designer and bringing in John Barry to arrange and perform the Bond Theme).😎 Those elements took Bond from what could have been a modestly popular series of British spy thrillers to an international cultural phenomenon.
Stevens is a far more gifted actor than people who only know him from Downton Abbey realize. I think he could be an amazing Bond.
I'll admit that I haven't been following the news, so I don't know what more has been revealed about Amazon's plans for the franchise or how it might affect Eon's no-rush production schedule.
As more good actors "age out" of the role, it's depressing that the choice of the next 007 might come down to who's in the demographic ballpark instead of someone whose talents could elevate Bond to another level.
I guess if EON wants to go the obvious comercial and safe route it'll be Cavill as James Bond, Christopher Nolan to direct and Adele who sings the title song. This isn't necesssarily a bad thing if they do, but I think EON will be more leftfield in their choices.
I'm onboard with you on Jacob Elordi. I think Dickinson still looks too young for me to decide. Harry Styles ..... in spite of Dunkirk I need a lot of conviction to back him as Bond.

I certainly hope not. He’d make NTTD look like a laugh fest.
I think Tom Hardy as a villain in the mould of a Richard Roper (The Night Manager), Franz Sanchez type, corrupt billionaire, could be good.

With Nick Cage cast as Dracula there can be no middle ground with that film. It will either be great (albeit "quirky") or just absolutely awful.
Fortunately it is being billed as a comedy. That being said, Cage would make an interesting Bond villain.
"In addition to his acting interests, Mr Charan poses... no, that's not quite fair.... IS the owner of a legitimate airline."
A trailer for Casino Royale - you know, the one starring Aidan Turner! 😎

Jack Lowden's brother is a ballet soloist. I wonder how athletic Jack is?

I'd say Florence is already there. Her Marvel work has really raised her profile. She was the best thing in both the Scarlet Widow movie and Hawkeye.
Just wondering why 'Midsommar' doesn't count...? Critically acclaimed in its genre, grossing respectably worldwide, and she totally carries it.
True... and 'Fighting With My Family' is another gem of a film, with a modest profile, in which she's a wonderful lead.
Hell, I'd be happy with Jane Bond if someone got serious about a keeper female OO7 and cast her!

Adivi Sesh ('Major', 2022) would have to be another contender from Telugu cinema.
He would be great but a very young Bond.

Do wonder what Ian Fleming might think about some of these names being suggested.
He would tell you,
but then, I'm afraid, he'd have to shoot you.

He wasn’t keen on the idea of Connery, so let’s not listen to him 😅
Very fair point!

I am a firm supporter of Jacob Elordi becoming the new 007.
I did see those new photos of Harry Styles and Harris Dickinson from their respective new films. Both have potential.
